It's that first verse that's the verse of a million Mondegreens. That's how I've always heard it, I like the sound of "enslavery," and it fits with other made-up Axl words like "disinfatuation" and "inconquerable." But I like how everything hears their own thing. Think Axl should just sing it different each time (whenever he gets around to actually singing it) to fuck with us even more.

That's how I hear it.

I think we need an official lyrics thread for Patience. :P

Actually, not true. I don't hear the oppress us part. I hear "Believe in your own fashions" there.

I can understand how you'd hear every part of that except "own," that just doesn't seem to fit.

Hahaha, I can't really think of any other songs that have any questionable lyrics, except maybe 'Silkworms'. Most people always have that one off by a country mile, though I don't claim to know the 100% correct lyrics, I think I used to get it pretty damn close...

It's only that first verse that's in question, and it's funny, cause that's definitely the most striking one. I like how it's ambiguous and each can have their own interpretation that's more or less correct. OP should just make a list of everyone's variation that's been posted, probably quite a list.

This is really funny because I've had this song for years (not the biggest fan of it), and never bothered to look up the lyrics. It's interesting, because the first few seconds sound like mumbo jumbo, then when Axl says "What can I do..." ...POOF! It's English. Glad to finally know what the hell he's saying.

You can get away with adding 'dis' and 'in' to words.

'Enslavement' is a word. But enslavery wouldn't make any sense, and wouldn't make any sense in the context of the line of the lyric.

Enslavement means, basically, 'the state of being in slavery', or the 'act of making people slaves'.

Google doesn't return ANY results of ANYONE trying o us enslavery.

What would enslavery mean? Wouldn't the context just mean 'slavery'? Leave your slavery? Isn't it more likely that "in slavery" is the word, and not "enslavery"?
