YOUCOULDBEMINE.
It's been bothering me, I've been looking for the correct lyrics forever.EVERY site says that the opening lines are this:It's not how you're thinkingLike you've been rightYou've been living a trade-offBelieve your own versionNow I know I'm not a native speaker but really? That's really what people are hearing?Stopped reading after that but that can't be right. Or Axl really has some kind of speaking disorder in this song.Does ANYONE have the correct lyrics to this song?Anyway this is what I hear (as someone whose first language isn't English)it's not as you're thinkingor as you've imaginedto live in a shade of beliefs that were fashionedto leave you in slavery and drain out your soulwhat can I do when there's so many liarsthat crawl through your veinslike millions of spidersthat seek out their victimsand who is the wiserwatch outgotcha

YOUCOULDBEMINE.
How can anyone hear ''like you've been right'', it's clearly something like ''imagined'', it obviously has the ''ma'' sound in it.''...live in a shade of'' is a certainty as well. He sings it in the live versions.Someone should ask Axl. Fuck questions about a new album, I want to know this. This is a mystery, thanks for your thoughts man. So it could be anything really. If you've heard a live version then you have more information than I do.

Freddie Mercury's Ghost
The "official lyrics" came from some guitar magazine that posted them along with tabs for the song in 1999 and I'm 99% sure the publication just made up the lyrics. They don't sound anything close to what Axl's singing. The "It's not how you're thinking or as you've imagined..." lyrics are correct or at least more correct than the lyrics from that magazine. Revolver
actually after listening to the song and reading those "official lyrics" they do sound like what he says ... also, it makes the song stronger hearing the 'Compromise' lines like they're supposed to be, after reading the older lyrics I just assumed that's what he was saying but after reading this and listening again I can hear that he's saying moreyou can hear him say very clearly "jump" in that 'bad jump' line

"Believin you're a bad jump" is that some kinda slang I've missed out on? Not seeing anything on Urban Dictionary. Granted that doesn't prove the lyric is wrong, but it's kind of dubious no? I know that doesn't necessarily make a ton of sense in the context of the song, but that's the way I took it...

If a live performance exists on YouTube I would love to see it.

Rhiad & The Bedouins
A bad jump? Really?that seriously made me laugh. agreed, that just seems weird. on another note, after listening to those 2 live versions from 2001 it just reminds me how much I miss Brain's drumming for gnr. I wish he'd come back someday...never got to see him live but have never been all that excited about frank even when I did see guns dec. 2006.. Gagarin
I love how everyone's like 'OMG has awesome lyrics', and... I'm pretty sure the closest still have problems, and most of the posts are way off base."Believe you're a legend""Or as you've been mine"..... TiedHands
A bad jump? Really? Hey man, I didn't say it made perfect sense. And I didn't transcribe it. Those were the lyrics that were submitted to the studio handling the End of Days soundtrack.
Flayer
It's not how you're thinkingor as you've imaginedwe live in the shade ofbeliefs that oppress usbelieve your enslavery and drain out your soulIt's that first verse that's the verse of a million Mondegreens. That's how I've always heard it, I like the sound of "enslavery," and it fits with other made-up Axl words like "disinfatuation" and "inconquerable." But I like how everything hears their own thing. Think Axl should just sing it different each time (whenever he gets around to actually singing it) to fuck with us even more.
