GUNS N ROSES NOMINATED FOR BAND OF THE YEAR

Not trying to be negative here, but you aren't suppose to vote for your favorite band. But for the band that had the best 2012. How in the world would GnR earn that honor?

Bringing new albums out is not the only reason why a band can be called band of the yeas.

Guns did and does a lot of great things by touring a lot, and last but not least: there's a lot more (personal) interaction between the members and fans. Even Axl takes time for them after a show.

The European tour was awesome, so imo they deserve the title.

Is there any year that you wouldn't vote for GnR?

This is a good example of the Nutter thing. Seriously, I love GnR just as much as you do. If not more.

But, people are voting for GnR just because they are their favorite band. That is a Nutter.

I saw GnR this year and had a great time. Awesome show. But there was maybe 5000 people there. No album. No hit singles. And I hate to tell you, but pretty much ALL bands mingle and interact with their fans. Everything you and Flayer mentioned happened with other bands.

Is GnR my favorite band? Without a doubt, by a landslide. But the band of the year? That is just Axl Worship.

There are bands that got just as good, if not better reviews than GnR this year. Along with having a new album. Charted songs. Larger concert ticket sales.

Again, not to be rude, the poll is for which band had the best 2012. Not for who your favorite band is.

I think you agree with me that Axl is very unattainable, right? In the past, being a fan, you could only get close to Axl when you were some kind of groupie.

Nowadays Axl takes the time for the fans, and so do the other bandmembers. I see that as a huge improvement.

The poll isn't about voting for the band who did the most. Not to me. I'm not voting on another band than my favourite, just because they released some music or whatever.

Guns is on the right track. They do a lot of things these days, more than they ever did.

The unattainable part......sure. I guess I don't place importance on that though. I love Axl for his singing ability. He is a woman beater, treats people like crap, the late starts and sometimes not showing up at all, the revolving door of musicians in GnR, the prima donna crap....not only do I not care to meet him, it still strikes me odd that people - especially females - worship him. often we idolized celebrities or athletes and think they must be great people in real life.....unfortunately, usually they are not.

Secondly, the band does a lot of things now that they didn't used to do? What???? The GnR I grew up with put out 4 albums in 5 years, toured the world, released maybe 10 videos, played award shows and late night talk shows and did lots of interviews!!! That was the highlight of my music life.

So you are basically admitting that you are voting because GnR is your favorite band. Nothing any other band did this year really matters. That was my main point if confusion. From a non biased point of view, 2012 was not the year of GnR. For the GnR fan base it was a nice year of three hour shows. But for the overall rock world, many bands had better years.

I apologize if I sound rude because of the 'voting for your favorite band instead of the best band' thing. Today's society seems to sink further and further into the every kid gets a trophy just for participating mindset. Which is what you are doing by voting for GnR!

Anyway. It is just a silly survey by a classic rock magazine, it really has no importance in the world. So anybody can vote for whomever they want, for whatever reason they want!!!!

Imo, while GnR is still my favorite band of all time, other bands had better years in 2012.

Women often worship 'bad guys', I don't know why but it's the truth. By the way, I worship Axl in another way. Not in the groupie way. He's my idol since I was 8 years old, and he will always mean a lot to me.

I dreamt about meeting him since I was a kid, and I'm glad it finally happened this year.

About doing a lot of things: Just think about the years of silence. I explained it the wrong way.

Yes, I vote for Guns because it's my favourite band, and because I enjoyed and cherish everything we have experienced during the European tour (great shows, meet&greets, afterparty, meeting Axl).

You're right about the survey being unimportant. A fan doesn't need the proof. Guns will still be our favourite band, even if they don't 'win' it.

What I will say I don't understand why people who obviously don't like the band frequent a forum dedicated to them.

Because there are several different versions of this band? This forum isn't didicated to the current one, that's why there are so many different types of fans here with different opinions.

There's also people who like a wide variety of bands, even more than any incarnation of Guns. Doesn't mean they don't have the right to post here or get lambasted for voting another band. Some people live in a bubble.

There is also a section dedicated to the older bands, right? Why not use those to wipe off your tears rather than using threads dedicated to todays GN'R? We're just here because we like this band and we enjoy their music. :shrugs:

I haven't been here long, and I'm already getting tired of all the cupcakes who never seem to get banned and people who complain and cry in every single thread.

I'd love to have the original band back together, and I loved the lineup of 2006. In the meantime, I choose to enjoy this current band which I think is really good.

Springsteen not being on this list is damn silly. A #1 album and sold-out world tour of stadiums and arenas. That's something that perhaps only Rush still *could* accomplish, but is still something The Boss has accomplished and none on that list have this year.

That being said, Bonamassa is the man. Go check out Black Country Communion if you haven't. It's Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, and Jason Bonham. Bunch of asskickers, they are.

Fair enough - I just find it hard to understand the rationale behind holding on to something that hasn't existed for nearly 20 years now with so much vitriol to what exists today. I loved the old band and I'm actually old enough to have seen them live with the Illusions lineup. I would love to see a reunion just from a nostalgia standpoint, but when I see everyone attacking and ripping the new band - it makes me think if those were my feelings I would probably not be here using this site. I am not suggesting anyone should leave... just making an observation.

People aren't even talking about the old band (s) in this thread. Some people are voting for Sabbath or Rush and are being criticized for that, which I think is ridiculous. "OMGZ how come you not voting Guns, they did 3 hour shows, you such a hater cupcake". FFS. Why would other posters get so butt hurt because someone appreciates other bands besides GNR and aren't voting Axl for some goofy award?

You can make a hundred different sections on a forum for Guns N Roses, and there's still going to be spillover in most threads. It's the nature of this beast. A majority of that 3 hour show are songs that were written over 20 years ago. Axl can play those songs on a tour but fans can't mention the musicians who actually created them? Not everyone can pretend the band didn't exist prior to 2001, especially when Axl keeps reminding us night after night with his setlist. That seems to drive a few posters crazy, like it just ruins their whole day or something. Seriously?

It's the fans of the nuband that are really the ones who do most of the crying around here. The mods do a great job trying to keep up with the whiners in this section to move threads to Attitude. Keep your chin up bud, it's only rock n roll.

Trust me, there are a lot more people bashing the original band. There are some deluded ones that say that the current band is better than the original one, which -- I mean, everyone is entitled to have opinions but come on... it's not rocket science. They try to say whatever they can with the sole purpose to bash the former members (former members that wrote AFD, Lies, Illusions and even Chinese Democracy).

If you don't like different opinions, if you can't handle criticism for your beloved band, then YOU join another forum. There's a forum where you can actually kiss ass all the time, you won't see anyone saying "dude that actually sucked!" or "you know what? I wish Axl rehearsed for the next tour because he's not sounding good at all!" let alone comments like "this band sucks, original one is better" or "where's Slash?". YOU leave, because luckily, this forum is for fans of all eras of Guns N' Roses and believe it or not, I'm still an Axl Rose fan.

I'm not trying to attack you, so don't take this as a personal message to you, it's more like a general vision of the whole thing.
