Vincent Vega
Can anyone recommend me some great Jazz or Swing artists from the 20s-40s? I'm talking along the lines of Duke Ellington....
The Real McCoy
Can't say that I know anything about the classics, but the Brian Setzer Orchestra is always a solid choice! B)
WhazUp
I would say Glenn Miller is quintessential. Check out In the Mood and Little Big Jug

dalsh327
Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys is pretty good... it's a country spin on swing music, but it's same family as far as I'm concerned.Van Morrison's covered a bunch of jazz and swing songs, and Woody Allen usually includes some of it in his movies. Clint Eastwood and Bill Cosby have put together compilations and hosted jazz concerts... I think "Play Misty for Me" was an all jazz soundtrack, and "Bird" was a great movie with a great soundtrack. Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Louis Armstrong from the 30s-50s are a given. I would've spread the dates over the 20s to the 50s, because they were still having hits with swing music in the 50s, and Sinatra was putting out the 'concept albums' when they transitioned out of 78s to 33s. I'd want Mingus, Miles, Hancock, George Benson, Bird, Brubeck, and Vince Guaraldi in any jazz collection. I think there's collections of the Playboy Jazz Fest and the Monterey Jazz Fest out there.
