at this point, what would it take to save this band?

It would seem that everyone has given up almost all hope, and at this point I don't even know if a reunion could do it. What do you guys think it would take to make guns cool again? The state they are in now is pathetic, and there may not even be a band anymore.

save the nuBand: reunite with most of the members who make CD and release the album, work out, rehearse- 2010 voice

save the classic band: reunion with Slash, work out, rehearse, 2010 voice

Axl believed he could carry Guns N' Roses himself, which is both brave and stupid. I admire that. And for a while it looked like he could - then he stopped caring. He stopped caring and nobody can convince me otherwise that this guy gives a shit anymore. So the bottom fell out. It's a universe with a void at it's centre.

The ultimate irony is that Axl never HAD to carry the band on his own shoulders. He was surrounded by great talent like Stinson, Bucket, Bumble etc...but he just left them sitting around until they got too pissed off and fed up of their non-existent opportunities to contribute to what could have been a continuing creative force in music that they either left or also stopped caring. He has completely fucked it all up, time and time again.

What could save it? Get in shape, double album of the rest of C.D. and EVERYTHING else made since 1999 that's worth hearing up to present. Get on the road. That could save it.

But it's too fucking late. Axl's fire's gone out. There's no more righteous anger, no more desire or hunger, just a fading shadow that's slipped into a boring, safe, comfortable middle-age surrounded by yes-men who expect nothing from him but money from an already bottomless wallet.

Edit: An additional thought. Think - who was the one friend of Axl who seemed as big a fan as this community? Sebastian Bach. His biggest cheerleader. But not in the way that your Jarmo's and your Fernando's and your Beta's are. Bach wasn't a 'congratulate Axl whether he actually does anything worthy of praise or not' guy, he was someone who believed in the fabled Big Plan...that there was more material to come that would kick our ass, that we'd get 'the trilogy' etc...all the things we wanted to believe. And now Bach hasn't said diddly-shit about any of that in years. What more do you need to know.

In terms of general public "acceptance"? Nothing can save nu guns at this point. And putting out the second part to an album people disregarded as a solution makes as much sense as Travolta bothering to release a sequel to Battleship Earth to redeem his career. Ol' yeller this bitch and just cut your losses.

A reunion could redeem the legacy a little if Axl was kicking ass and taking names consistently throughout, but even then, all the mishaps and fuck ups that have happened from '94 on are far too glaring to disregard completely. But 'tis the only thing that could make it a flesh wound instead of a missing fucking limb :shrugs:
