Catching Axl’s UYI 1993 Microphone 30 Anniversary

Recommended Posts

I remember somebody telling he catch the mic around 2010, but the guy next to him found out amd got very annoying asking him to give him the foam, so he did and later regret

I couldn't catch it in Madrid 2017 as I was too far away from the spot, in Madrid 2018 there is this long path with fences in the middle of the crowd that separates crowd in 2 sides (it was a festival) I was on the left side and the mic landed right were I was...except on the right side :(

In 2010 in Milan I was standing right in front of the stage, some 20m back. At the end of PC I noticed Axl took off one of his rings and then he threw the mic. It happened so fast, at first I thought he threw the ring ( I was a bit stoned) but then the mic landed like 2m from where I was and all the people there were fighing to get it. After a while a guy got up with a smile on his face and the mic in his hand and disappeared into the crowd. Thant was the closest I've been to Axl mic :D

There have been hundreds of shows. Hundreds of mics that Axl has thrown into the crowd.  Where have they all gone?  I’ve just searched the www and can only find reference to two more, and I know someone personally who has one from a post 1996 concert. But that’s it.  Where are they?

I have one :headbang:

Let’s have the whole story then.  And some pictures.  I’d love to hear what other people went through to get their hands on one.  From the few experiences I’ve found, mine was quite tame.  Ive heard of security robbing them off people, to those that have been in the middle of a brawl etc.

great story.  I caught Frank's drumstick at Metlife show #2 in 2016 (not nearly as exciting I know) but my years of playing basketball came in handy.  I grabbed that thing in the air before it hit the ground and had my elbows out in case somebody tried to grab it haha. Would have made my high school coach proud!

Guns N' Roses 2010 live in London. Axl and Co. performed in the O2 Arena in the Millennium Dome on October 13th and 14th in one of the most visited arenas in the world.  23,000 spectators in the sold-out hall, a band "on fire" and acoustics - which you are looking for - made the first evening an indescribable experience.  At 3:00 p.m., I joined the approximately 30 fans who were waiting in line and “waited” there until admission at 6:30 p.m. This patience paid off, my place in the front row was secured.  Experiencing the concert in the first row is of course unique from the point of view of the closeness to the band and the stage, but also all the more exhausting. Damn tight, sometimes chaotic jostling and a bruised neck from the total rocking out in the front line.

The concert on the first evening was just great. Axl's voice is brilliant. The sound is overwhelming and the fans are totally over the moon!  Shortly after midnight it was over and the band thanked me and the rest of the audience for the great atmosphere that evening.  Heading home by train and bus towards the city centre, a few hours of sleep, a quick detour to Arsenal London's Emirates Stadium and then back to the O2 Arena... Concert #2!!!

I arrived at the O2 Arena around 8:00 p.m. very relaxed. However, the evening started with a bit of a disappointment (which I had to blame myself for). I wanted to record the concert with my HD camera. That's why I wanted to do a test recording beforehand - and so boldly - right next to a security guy... whereupon the security took away my camera (I could pick it up again after the concert)... stupid.  But in the end it's not that bad... on the way to hand over the camera, Del James, a member of the Guns N' Roses crew, came towards me...

The concert wasn't sold out on the second evening, but that didn't spoil the mood in the arena at all. And the band was once again more than "on fire"!!!  An unbelievable evening started with "Chinese Democracy" and "Welcome To The Jungle"...

As the guitars kicked in on "You Could Be Mine" something truly incredible happened... out of nowhere ex-Guns N' Roses bassist and founding member of the Appetite For Destruction line-up Duff McKagen walked onto the stage.  This moment was indescribable! The spectators in the arena looked unbelievable and unbelievable at what was happening...  After all the fights in the past, there was something comforting about this moment, and that was that Axl was "right" again with Duff and Izzy Stradlin (also a founding member; he was also a guest at a concert in 2006)...  This surprise was a hit... and the audience was absolutely "blown away"...

The last song "Nighttrain" was followed by 5 encores and after almost three hours of playing time an amazing evening and a bombastic concert came to an end!  A perfect end to a perfect evening! You really can't top that anymore...! And yet...  I've had some wonderful moments at Guns N' Roses concerts. Among other things, when Axl Rose sang Don't Cry in Tokyo for the first time in years in 2007 or the band played "Sailin" in London in 2006... but what came next was the AWESOME thing ever!!!!

After the last song "Paradise City" and a "Good fuckin' night" singer Axl Rose threw his microphone into the audience as usual... and guess who "caught" it!!!

Yeahhh..... WHAT TA FUCK!!!

Damn, what a great feeling! Past a group of arms, between legs and feet, the microphone landed almost two meters in front of me... one look, one dive and Axl's microphone is mine now!!!! Boahhhhhhh... that's what I call a crazy memory of a crazy concert!

Cheers for sharing that.  Was the mic still live over the PA when he threw it?
