Oh boy, that's the funniest things I've heard this morning. They are pretending to be punk! "Punk" was a word that stood for originality, independence and autonomous thought - what is original about Green Day? The boys in Green Day are the very reason "punk" died in the UK in the late 70s - commercialism. When "punk" become's a fashion, it is no longer punk. I see little difference between Green Day and Avril lavigne - same thing to me - they both write catchy pop songs. Well, that's fine by me but we are talking about "pretentions" and, yes, Green Day do have pretentions. Who are Bon Jovi pretending to be...? If they say their not a Rock group then why accept an award saying they are. I havnt a fuckin' clue what the guys name is who plays drums for Green Day but fact is that Tommy Lee Is in a whole different league. FACT. People just tend to class music as rock or pop these days, and Green Day happens to be closer to the rock end of that spectrum. + it'd be a bit shite if we started seeing specific award shows, they'd go on forever... greatest Math Metal band? I don't necessarily like their music, thats fair enough, but it's just that they get so over-played and their songs are made out to be better than they actually are. In school, when American Idiot came out, everybody was claiming to be big Green Day fans but they only owned American Idiot. I respect Green Day, hell, even some neds in my class admitted to liking Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. But it seems to me that they get too much recognition and there are other bands more deserving of that recognition. Its similar with My Chemical Romance but on a smaller scale. But a lot of people like the band only because the singer is attractive to them. These days all you need to sell a record is a pretty face and a catchy chorus. I like The Killers, Greenday, Matchbook Romance, My Chemical Romance etc... I don't see what's so bad about it, to me it's enjoyable music.
