Axl is in his 40's now... he has matured, and progressed as a musician. It is clear he is taking a different approach with this music, and I for one like it.In short, thats why the old band no longer exists. Listen to Use Your Illusions 1 and 2, it is clear Axl wants to take the band in an entirely different direction from "AFD" and he did... ultimately leading to the band's demise. When you think about it, thats probably why Axl is hesistant to put this thing out... half the people who buy it are going to be expecting another "Appetite" when they're probably getting something closer to the Illusion era. They did not want to be here. And just when you think its not possible, Axl recruited a group of musicans who are more talented than the guys they replaced. I saw it in 2002 when I saw the band. He did not want to stay in the band, he did not like the direction of the music. could he have played on these? I'm sure he could have done something to compliment these songs in their own way, but the bottom line is he wouldn't and won't. And that was a decision he made 10 years ago. I just dont see why this needs to be discussed over and over and over. he's gone, out of the band, he's not coming back, and thats ok. GNR will go on.
