Have we heard all of the big guns? Starting to think we have...

First let me state that I am super pysched that Chinese D is right around the corner. I also fucking love the song Better, it just kicks so much ass. I do have to admit that I thought the first single would remain a mystery until it was released, and it's hard to deny that Better is most likely going to launch this new band.

It's strange, while part of me can't wait for the album and the single to come out, I think another part of me feels like I've heard so much of CHinese D already that I want 13 new songs that blow away the songs we've already heard. Now I know most people haven't heard the leaks, so maybe it's just the die-hard fans that will be the most disappointed.

Do you guys think we've heard the best of what Axl has for us? While the new material is great, here's the issue I think most die hard fans will have: how can any song be worth the 15 year wait and the loss of the Slash?

While I think people will be curious and buy the new material, there is NEVER going to be the support for this new band the way people supported the original. But back on topic: Have we heard the best there is on Chinese ? It would seem so...

I don't think it was coincidence that the songs that were leaked, IRS and Better (and TW@) are being played live. But I'm not dissappointed if there's no more "big guns" because I am happy knowing that there is some songs that none of us have heard yet and that's what I want. It's cool that GnR are playing some songs that may be on the album so we know some of them already and then there's those that we haven't heard yet so it will be a nice mix. :shades:

I'm not at all dissapointed that 'Better' will be the single because it's a great song. I personally can't wait to hear the likes of 'Madagascar' and 'The Blues' on a finished album. Plus all the material that Axl has to throw around, didn't Richard say the plan was 3 records over 3 years beginning this year? If you consider that then we have so much to look forward to.

Fair point. I take it you are extremelly excited and curious.

I think perhaps that Better is the Single they opted for because it has a "new edge" to it - a modern sound. I think they don't wanna gamble much with this comeback-single, and Better fits todays rock in a great way. It sounds new, not 1990.

That being said, I think some Big Guns are held back until the realease. But these are, as far as I'm concerned, more epic songs like November Rain, Estranged, Civil War, Breakdown and T.W.A.T.

You don't release Estranged as a first single, no matter how brilliant it is. That would be a huge gamble on GNR's part.

We've heard rumours of songs like This I Love, Eulogy of a broken heart, The General, Checkmate etc.

To me, if Checkmate is real, it promises to be a kick-ass tune. Also, Prostitute, the song I think was SUPPOSED to be the single a couple of years ago (when Silkworms and Rhiad was also in contention, ERGO; before Axl got real and realized he's a rock n roller through and through) should be a kick in the mouth.

Well..Oh yes, I forgot: To clear up a COMMON MISUNDERSTANDING among some of you who haven't read enough GNR "news" for the last year or so:

Catcher in the Rye is NOT going to be on Chinese Democracy.

Take care!

I'm aching to hear 'Sorry' just cuz of the way Baz built it up.

I, too, was contemplating similar things regarding the album. It's like we've already heard half of it. I wish they went with 18 songs or something, like they planned a couple of years ago. Still, I don't think I'll be too disappointed. I just want the thing to come out.

I haven't been in this section for ages, but everytime it seems there's a thread on this topic by Kaneda.

And on-topic, I reckon we should just be grateful that Axl is still trying to make new music, even if some people find the stuff disappointing...he's not obliged to.

Agreed to the fullest.

Plus I am really curious to see if some of the rumoured songs are indeed true, like This I love or Eulogy of a broken heart (especially this one).

CD is going to be great!

*edit*

It's a shame tho, that CITR won't be on the album, if this is really rue.

There will be great songs regardless of what is a big one or not. As for Better, it is not something I fancy. CITR will not be on the album. I know we have band confirmation of this. It will be on a later release down the road.

No CITR? Hmmm...Hasn't AXL himself stated that TW@T, Better and The Blues are his favorite songs? We may have heard the big guns indeed. Side note, where does Just Another Sunday come from? Is that an outtake from an earlier album?

Bud I thought Richard said it was going to be on the album. He said it was one of his favourites. Also 'Eulogy of a Broken Heart'... Shit I've never heard that title before, that sounds cool.

Yep, that's the latest I've heard too, but I've heard it more often, that CITR is supoosed to be on a CD follow up.

"Eulogy..." is described as the ultimate song which will bring Guns back, an epic piano ballad, so secret that just very high positions in Geffen and Sanctuary have heard it. Sounds kinda unbelievable, but I've seen it mentioned here 3 or 4 times, and since I am a sucker for songs like this, I kinda memorized this piece of info.

When was Eulogy actually discussed? I've seen the title thrown around without much information. If what you say is true, I'm pumped for that track.

It's never been discussed much, there was never a whole thread about it for example, I've only seen it mentioned a few times, and the info I gave is all which was ever thrown around about it.

Well, for all we know, it can also be one big hoax, which would be sad, imo.

'Better' should absolutely be the first single.

Axl sounds stong, its super catchy, and (and this is what worries me more than most people it seems) it actually has somewhat of a chorus. Notice that a lot of these new tunes don't??

Anyway, I wouldn't get all bent out of shape about it already being leaked. According to almost every concert review I read, both official and unoffical, there was hardly anyone in the crowd who had downloaded the leaks.

So in terms of this still being "new" to people, it will be to most.

If we heard the best from CD, then i wont be dissapointed at all because i think it's really good. It's better then VR in my opinion. With or without slash i don't think it would matter much, slash, although a great guitarist, is more of a staple image of GNR more then anything else, musically i think it sounds just fine without him. Although, if slash were still in the band it'd be great for most fans, but that's not the case these days. I think theres gonna be at least two more songs we havent heard that are right up there with better.
