I am so tired of reading each new show thread with everyone trashing Axl and his voice.

Is it what we onced loved...no... I just watched about an hour of 2010 videos and wow did it sound great!

I know being a performing singer/songwriter myself that there is no way you would want to give less than Axl was giving in 2010 and enjoy it... unless there was a reason.

Axl doesn't hate us and is not TRYING to alienate his fans. Guaranteed he enjoys giving his all and satisfing his fan base. I can't imagine the pressure of EVERY show and EVERY song being on youtube for the world to critque. But my point is there has to be a medical reason. Axl wouldn't stop singing in his trademark rasp if there wasn't... why would he? to be spiteful... I really fucking doubt it.

My guess is that he gave his all in 2010 (I saw 5 shows and all of them his voice was as great as 87-88) and after the tour his vocal cords were a mess. I know he had surgury in 92, likely again after 2010.... maybe the Dr told him "you CANT do this anymore or you will never be able to sing again"

There has to be a limit to the amount of times you can cut vocal nodules away before you can\t?

I'm not a Dr but I am a vocalist and I know that even with finesse and techinque RASP HURTS... you can medigate it but it hurts.

It might just be if Axl blows his cords out again, we might never hear him sing again

I can only speak for myself, but I accept the performance we get from him. I agree that he is doing the best that he can do. Perhaps it is medically releated, as you said. I have listened to enough artists over thqe years to realize that many of the greats voices changed over the years, it is what it is. As long as he sounds good in person, thats all that matters to me, I don't really spend much time watching new clips on youtube anyways. If I watch gnr vids on youtube, I go for the classic band anyways...

God forbid people want to hear someone sing their own songs properly. It is not just the voice. The voice is the main thing though. So, if there were perchance new songs that Axl could sing, or release of new music when he could sing, there would be less griping. Absolutely everything about GnR has changed, and in my opinion absolutely everything about GnR is worse. New Axl is worse than old Axl.

If you saw the last performances you could've perceived he's out of breath every 5 seconds, he can't hit longer notes because he desperately needs air. He couldn't even finish November Rain outro the other day.

i think it's likely the illusion tour irreparably damaged his vocal cords. if he can't sing like he used to, fair enough. but there's other aspects of the recent performances that are open to valid criticisms as well, imo, and trying to lecture people and reprimand them for voicing opinions is arrogant.

they had a break during the 92 tour because of it. I'm not bothered enough to search for the source to satisfy your needs but all you need to do is listen to mid to late 92 and then the 93 shows and hear a distinct difference in the tone and timbre in his voice.

The emphasis should be on the out of shape. The point is that he doesn't give a shit. There's no great mystery to be unraveled here. He's lazy as fuck.

Pavarotti was not a physical performer. Axl is. He's a rock musician who knows people expect him to engage physically on stage, so being out of shape is certainly something that would hinder the inherent quality of his stage performance when he's running about or even just snake-dancing.

Am I calling him fat? Nope. Just saying if he shows up looking puffy and his voice isn't very good, of course people are going to immediately notice that. I think to some people it may also be indicative of a lack of concern for his health. If he's letting himself go physically, then perhaps he's letting himself go in other areas as well (i.e. vocally). I think if he showed up like he did in 2006, even if his voice sucked, people would be less critical, because at least he'd appear to care and be trying. Again, I'm not saying he owes us anything or that he doesn't have the right to do whatever the fuck he wants with his physical appearance. But when you're charging fans money for a performance, they likewise gain the right to criticize aspects of that performance.

I was here in 2010 as a lurker and I remember very few people complaining but most of them (and this forum had more traffic back then) were praising Axl's voice.
