Sitting in my car, little to no money, technically unemployed and homeless, 6000 miles away from my family, had to go to the dentist this morning, somebody stole my cat, my rear right hand side fender has a huge dent that I need to fix, my wife is is jail, I lost 99% of everything I ever owned because they auctioned my storage unit, it's cold and my nose is running.

I need another Vodka/Coke before I deal with the meth-head tweaker

     next door.

    Whine over...

Can't PM you for whatever reason. PM me your email address please.

  2. Haven't listened and I don't think I need to for the comment I'm going to make.

What frustrates me further (aside from what lots of folk have mentioned in this thread) is from my understanding with vocal care, practice, training, and basic exercise you can rebuild you're voice for the most part. It's never going to be like what it was in ones youth, but can still be strong and powerful etc. I get the impression Axl doesn't do any of what I've listed as his voice is more often than not shockingly bad now (comparing him to himself).

If you're going to charge large amounts for tickets and continue pushing the NITL tour, at least keep you instrument and skills healthy out of respect for both yourself, bandmates and fans. For all the perfectionist comments associated with Axl of the decades, he seems far from it in a live setting, and lazy.

  3. I preordered Reckless Road, and from memory we were promised exclusive clips and footage from the era as part of the pre ordering (or something along those lines). Never got anything, other than the book and felt a bit annoyed about that at the time.

I honestly don't care that much about new music from this band. I'd prefer Soul Monster 2000 with vocals to a whole Axl/Slash/Duff album.

I'd be interested, mostly because of how backwardly ran this band is and how its nearly impossible to get anything from them.

I'd be generally excited if it was new music though - no rehashed material, just the current lineup making songs and not over thinking things - doubt that wuold be the case either (imo anything we get is going to be CD era completed songs with Duff n' Slash on, and then one or two new ones that Slash & Duff have conjured up to make everyone feel better.

  5. 1. I've never once considered One in a Million as racist or derogatory, and am sick of how the debate/discussion/point is always bought up at any available opportunity by journos.

I can understand why it's easy to claim it as both those things, I've just never seen it or interrupted it in that light in my mind. I generally won't speak up about my opinion on this matter as its easy to paint me with the same brush by association.

    2. LIES version of You're Crazy is fantastic and my preference over AFD's track.

    3. Slash is brilliant at what he does, yet is still overrated as a guitarist.

    4. Tommy's voice (think it was him, but might have been Finck) during live performances of the song Chinese Democracy often sounded better than Axl's.

    5. I'm often biased towards Axl's voice, but in reality - more often than not, - he is well below par whenever I've seen him live post 93. Just don't like to admit it :P

    6. Spaghetti Incident is a great, heavy, & fun album. Since I Don't Have You makes me cringe and imo shouldn't have been on the record.

    7. The band has too many ballads, which slow live shows down drastically cutting the bulk of them out would result in a more powerful show. Patience should never be in the encore.

    8. The bands live shows seem very generic and cookie cutter, and have been since the later UYI tours.

    Great thread OP!

Don’t see Izzy agreeing on touring going into a 5th year now.

    Agree.

Also can't see an album in the near future if they're all happy in continuing to regurgitate the same tour over and over. Appreciate its a good money spinner, but for artists - surely they want to be creating and playing, not just rinse and repeating the same stuff.

Looking forward to reading it. Matt's a helluva douche. I don't trust him to tell the truth, at least not when it makes him look bad or not cool but it's probably going to be a fun read like Slash's book was.

    My thoughts on Matt too.

I'll read it at some point despite this though, and also due to this lol.

  8. Didn't think a new thread was needed.

Curious what Spotify spat out for everyone this year in regards to most listened to artist or record or song.

I got Jimmy Reed and Benjamin Booker. It gives more details, but I can't recall what else off the top of my head.

So what did you get? Always a fun way to find new music, or rehash stuff you've not listened to in a while.

I took a look the day the list was released. The only thing I'm interested in is Pearl Jam Unplugged

I was interested in this too, really interested. But a small bit of research i did on it suggested that the source can't be anything but the average one currently available. So have some doubts now, but could be wrong and in was a random post on the internet.

Pearl Jam generally don't cut corners, so imagine the quality would be top notch?

I definitely won't argue with you.  This is a cash-grab pure and simple and count me out.  I saw the Black Crowes about 6 or 7 times live and they were occasionally brilliant, mostly mediocre and at times plain awful.

These asshole brothers must be flat broke to even agree to tour again together with "all new members."  Live Nation will promo the shit out of this "reunion" and my advice to you all: Don't fall for it.

Save your money and buy Steve Gorman's book 'HARD TO HANDLE: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF THE BLACK CROWES'.  Read that one and find out what the Robinson brothers are really like...

Thanks for the book recommendation. Just ordered it.

I've seen them a number of times and agree, some shows have been fantastic, other's very average. Those first two albums I still thoroughly enjoy, and also like their sound when Luther Dickinson was hired for a while.

Cash grab no doubt, but I'd still probably enjoy myself hearing/watching them belt out Shake Your Money Maker from front to back live. Certainly isn't a reunion though lol.

  11. Anyone got any tips on Chilli growing? I've had some good success but basically just feed the fuckers as much as possible and give them as much heat.

Keen to understand their up keep once they're dishing out chillis.

Also seeking any tips on how to clone a Lemon Tree.

    THanks!

Brian Johnson was an absolute beast of a vocalist. He had ridiculous range, power, and versatility. I really recommend you listen to some of his work before joining AC/DC. He had a somewhat Robert Plant-esque vibe and an absolutely incredible voice. Once he joined AC/DC, all they had him do was sing screamers on the absolute upper limits of his range and with ridiculous rasp.

It was awesome for a while. The original vocals of Hells Bells are really an amazing feat. However, doing that on a consistent basis absolutely obliterated his voice through the years, and he has been a shadow of himself for decades, tuning down stuff and adapting his voice to sound serviceable.

Singing early Brian Johnson AC/DC material is very harmful for most people's voices. The more rasp and the further above the natural register one sings, the greater the impact on the vocal chords. If singing like that did Axl in at 56 years old, that's absolutely zero coincidence. It permanently changed Brian's voice in a matter of 6-7 years when he was in his 30's and 40's.

Edit: this is how Brian Johnson used to sound

Jesus that's good. Thanks for the clip.

I probably go overboard but I keep all of mine in outer plastic sleeves. I replace all my inner sleeves with Mobile Fidelity inner sleeves too.

I don't spine my records though, I built tables to I can dig through my collection. You can see what I'm talking about below. That's a link to the Facebook page I made for the music area in my house. Since I have my records on tables like I do, I sleeve them so the opening is on the right. That way I don't have to take the outer sleeve off for every play. Most people that spine their albums choose to put the outer sleeves on so the opening is at the top.

As far as organizating, I do similar to you: alphabetical by artist, then I have a Various Artists section at the end. Only difference is that I do organize them by release date after band. It just helps me grab what I'm looking for faster if I want a certain album.

There should be a link with pics on that page so you can see what I mean about how I have them stored.

Wow, that's unreal. Is that your business, hobby, or both? I'm intrigued and jealous at the same time, what a great idea.

I use the ikea kallax shelves, so the spines are out. Everything is in sleeves.

I organize alphabetically (bands and then soundtracks in another area) and try as much as possible to go chronologically within each band but that gets messed up pretty easily. With some bands I will also include related projects. For example The Beatles has all the member’s solo albums as well as Sean Lennon and things like that and Faith No More has any other Patton projects (bungle, fantomas, dead cross. Etc)

I store 7” in small crates on top of the kallax shelves.

The Kallax shelves are great, I'm about to order some more they're just ideal.

@RussTCB and @Stiff Competition - am I doing any particular damage to the actual vinyl if I'm not storing in plastic sleeves? What are your thoughts? (environmentally the room they're isn't exposed to the elements or overly hot, cold, and certainly not humid.

@RussTCB - the replacement of inner sleeves is something i've been meaning to do - the standard paper ones that seem to be the norm are a mess. Will take a look at the Mobile Fidelity ones, appreciate the tip.

  14. How do you folks store your vinyl? Shelved and in plastic sleeves, or without the sleeve?

I used to have all mine sleeved, but found it just plain annoying trying to get records in and out from the shelves and the plastic just getting in the way (and just another step involved when putting on a record/putting one back).

Haven't noticed any issues yet, bar of course a bit more wear n' tear on the covers (which doesn't bother me too much, even with the more pricey ones my collection is there to be listened to).

    What do you guys do?

Also, how to you organise your collection? Mine is just alphabetically regardless of genre, with Compilations at the end. I don't bother going further with the ordering of albums by release date and stuff.

That is totally true.  Ultimately you can be GNR or be like any other band in the world and realize that monetarily fan live videos don't hurt business and in fact are a great promotional tool in the 21st century that help maintain and foster fan communities.  If they aren't going to give us new songs, they can at least let us enjoy the seven millionth performance of Jungle from last week

I wonder if it's a case of them not being fully confident in how the band and Axyl sounds, and not wanting the negative comments/feedback.

Regardless it is a shame can anyone think of other bands that do this to the same extreme?

  16. A lot of solid material came out from Guns that wasn't literally just the 5 guys - input from others within their scene.

Don't care who helps out and provides ideas and inspiration etc if it gets Axl up and at.

My main concern with any new album is that it will be CD related stuff, with Slash n' Duff pasted on top. I personally would like them all to start to bring things to the table that are fresh with this current lineup and evolving the album/songs more organically as a group. Not have 30 songs more or less done that Axl hands to Slash et el to chop, change, and play over.

Axl in the studio again singing, not relying on old vocals he recorded way back when, is also what I'm hopeful for.

Gone a bit off topic. GnR have often had input from variety of their associates, don't care if that's Paul Huge or not, just that they all get in and amongst it and thrash out something genuine.

Just saw this is an upcoming release form MOV, nothing too special just a reissue on colored vinyl for the 15th anniversary.

I really hope we get a Libertad Vinyl release some day.

Sorry all I've spammed this thread consectively.

Any idea the source of this reissue? Another on the want list, but always take care before getting reissues to understand the source. MOV is generally pretty solid in my experience tbh.

  18. Outside of GNR arriving this week;

Buddy Guy Sweat Tea, Black Star (Mos Def & Talib Kweli), Gary Clark Jr's This Land, Tribe Called Quest Midnight Marauders, and Thirdmans Vault package centered around White Stripes debut album (if memory serves).

GNR related - just got the Spaghetti Incident to complete my GnR albums (included Live Like a Suicide), oddly wanted this one for ages for some reason.

I used some Amazon rewards points to order the latest Tom Kiefer LP this morning. I also grabbed Pawnshop Guitars while I was at it. I don't think I've ever actually owned that album, so I might as well grab the vinyl.

I'm sitting outside the record store as I type this. I'm gonna grab the 1 LP anniversary edition of Abbey Road.

    Edit-

I just followed you on Instagram @Stiff Competitionif you look at my Instagram, you'll see they're very similar lol

Pawnshop Guitars is on my want list,......but that want list constantly grows - hard & expensive to stay on top of :P

  19. They're going to get dealt to by the ABs. Best hope for them is test 1, but after that I'm with the majority in a 3-0 whitewash. Two respectable losses and at least one 13+ smashing.

The Lions pack should be able to hold up, but they're backs are unimaginative and struggling for any sort of cohesion that I can't see them getting across the line much at all. The rush defense is doing well, but with the offloads that ABs can do and they're absolute brilliance in broken play suggests to me that there will be plenty of holes to be taken advantage of.

In saying that, heres hoping Lions steal a famous win, or at least push it to the final test. Looks to me like their plan is to try starve ball from the ABs, but fact of matter is their is zero venom in their attack at the moment and chances they do create (plenty have been in the last 3 games) they're not taken and aren't clinical at all. ABs are completely different in this regard and can score plenty even when behind on possession and territory stats. Lions defense style will probably play into Barretts hands as well, as he has an accurate boot during open play, burning pace, and reads game well.
