Slash still does SKMC because Guns doesn't do anything. We all know why.  It's been 6 years, and we've only got two songs so far. Slash isn't going to sit around while Axl does whatever he does. If GNR(Axl) were really interested in putting out a new album, obviously, Slash's priorities would be there. He knows that's where the real $$$ is. But, there's no point of dumping SKMC when Guns(Axl) has no honest intention of releasing new music.

Yup. I don't think they have any intention of doing new music. You nailed it.

Slash has his creative outlet with his band.

It's a shame though, what is so hard about banging out a record with the current lineup.

Budget wise there is nothing to worry about. Just lock up a month in everyone's calendar and jam something out. It doest have to be ground breaking statement. Just enjoying jamming and making music. Fans will like the output even if it never captures the success of the past.

CD was hardly a ground breaking success, so I'd have thought axl would be comfortable there.

Every time I look at it, I just can't understand the logic around why, or what's bothering them, that they don't or can't record something and put it out. The only conclusion I get from it is that they don't want to, and are happy just playing shows and touring - and if that's the case be open and honest about it.

    This boba show was horrible

Yeah it was pretty B grade cheesy for the most part.

If I'm honest I enjoyed the Mando driven episodes, and nerding out over the lore in my thoughts, but all the boba ones I was more watching it like you do a bad soap opera with terrible acting - once watching you can't pull your eyes from it lol.

Like an episode of neighbours or something.

Check out Acid Mammoth! Just found them on Spotify. Excellent DOOM!

If he hasn’t shipped it yet, you should have it! PM him!

Haven't shipped yet. Trying source some decent packaging for it.

Edit: @ZoSoRose or @Mansin Humanity just received a record, and crucially the box it came in fits the Sleep boxset. It's sealed up and ready to post, let me know which of you it's going to.

I'll post it tomorrow morning. No need to worry about postage costs.

I gotta say: I’m really starting to hate the spice arc in the boba show. It rips off dune, for starters (which starwars already does too much as is). Also it makes Tattooine more important than it should be. What made Tattooine cool before is that it was a backwater world. The biggest thing tho is that why would boba, a crime lord, want to stop CRIME?

    Yup agree.

Also them trying to make Boba this reformed nice guy is a bit much. Make him have a moral compass of sorts, but leave it questionable.

Guess you could look at old shows like the Sapranos or The Shield to get the inspiration as to where I'm going.

Tattooine should be the scum of the universe, with most their really not giving a shit about anything that goes on the planet other than themselves and what immediately effects them.

PM me your address, won't be able to post it until Tuesday though as it's a long weekend here.

  6. Anyone here want the Third Man Records Sleep box set (vinyl)?

If you pay for postage you're welcome to it.

Played it once, it's awesome but I need the space. Since then it's been in a cupboard of other vinyl box sets.

They should take the UYI footage and do what Metallica did with their old shows- upload all of them and charge a small subscription fee for access to all the shows.

I've often wondered why streaming services having done something like this, have a music section to Netflix or whatever which is live shows authorised by artists.

Or Spotify bolt on to an existing infrastructure platform that provides live shows streamed, both pre recorded stuff from years past, their Spotify live stuff, etc etc.

Seems like a missed opportunity, live shows gets loads of views on youtube.

Well it's a good thing I don't expect you or even want you to get on board! It's how I feel about those songs ... I personally find If The World to be one of Axl's greatest vocal performances

Scrapped. Rhiad. If The World. Are three of my favourites from the album.  Agree his vox on If The World are great.

CD, Better, and IRS I like too. Prostitute is great.

The slower numbers don't really do it for me. Street of Dreams, Catcher (makes me cringe), This I Love etc. Totally get why ppl dig them though, just not for me. They're the more boring generic listening experience to my ears.

All up its a good record that tbh I've not listened to in aaaaaages. But it warrants plenty of relistens and keeps on giving when you do go back.

I’ve honestly found  Boba Fett boring as shit, and overall quite lame. I loved this recent episode, because it didn’t centre around Boba at all.

Yeha same here. I'm sticking it with it though for the lore/story etc.

And agree this latest episode was brilliant. Goes to show that with the right directing and acting makes a big difference, when Mando first started I figured he had the easiest acting gig ever (seeing as the mask is always on), but after watching Boba - even with his mask on its grindingly bad in that department. Got a lot more respect for the Mando actor (forgotten his name now) , instantly I was back and immersed it which I really struggle with BOBF.

  10. OK I'll bite.

There have been many periods throughout Gnr where the 'coolness' dipped.

But absolutely none got as momumentally low as when Ashba joined.

Personally the Bucket era wasn't one of these low points for me, I thought he was interesting, fun, and 'cool'.

Regardless of guitar ability and musicianship. Seeing as Ashba is only talking about looks (which in itself says so much about him).

DJ made me cringe, there is literally nothing cool about him, his whole vibe reeks of disingenuity.

Least bucket was being original and himself, which is more than I can say about Ashba, and is always cooler than be a cardboard cut out like Ashba.

He reminds me of that Adam Levine guy with his whole bogus vibe, but worse.

See, this is a good example of how diluted and arbitrary the concept of "cancel culture" is.

So Oprah can no longer give her personal opinion on something, regardless of how clearly she is about it being her own personal opinion.

Aren't you in effect "cancelling" Oprah?

If someone chooses to believe MJ's guilt solely on the opinion of Oprah, well, they have bigger problems.  Your logic indicates that no one famous can ever make any kind of qualitative statement out of concern about how it will shape the opinions of others.  I find that kind of absurd, especially for someone who considers themselves a fan of Axl, who has a history of providing his opinion on a variety of issues.

Again, this isn't a thread to litigate the accusations about MJ.

The issue is whether Oprah called for MJ to be cancelled.  Or is the mere fact that she, someone who actually knew MJ personally and (correct me if I'm wrong) at one point considered him a friend, decided to believe MJ's accusers means she's guilty of being part of cancel culture?

We shouldn't take these kinds of takes personally.  I don't fault you for believing MJ innocent of the charges, you shouldn't fault me for thinking the opposite.  Neither of us know.  So why judge each other for opinions that can't be verified?

    Good post.

And don't want to get sucked into the whole MJ argument.

However with Oprah and the MJ thing, as well as Oprah in general particularly of late. I think for her it's more about getting the 'scoop' and exposure and this increasing her brand even further. Personally I wouldn't be suprised if she didnt support the accusers privately but publically does due to my point (same if it was the other way round). Struggle to trust people like her that aren't exactly respected journos and are heavily influenced by both their wide spread fame, and their need to be front and centre. Same goes for the Meghan interview she did, and a bunch of others. I feel she more plays the part that will best portray her.

    My two cents.

  12. Cancel culture has gone way to far.

The roots of it are good, people calling out others who have gotten away with behaviour or acts that genuinely shouldn't have (or those continuing to repeat said acts).

But it's gone way too far. All it takes is for anyone to say anything and before even proven said person is screwed over and tarnished. Even in the rare event the accuser is proven wrong, rarely are their follow ups and the accused continues to be tainted.

Meanwhile you have ppl trawling through decade old tweets trying to find something contraversial to hack a tall poppy down. Ridiculous. I could list numerous examples of this.

It worse than the mum groups hating on music, or retard adults trying to associate shit behaviour to excessive video games or whatever. That type of outlook never got addressed and has further spiraled to what cancel culture has become.

Meanwhile, even if a musician I liked was proven to be an absolute piece of shit. It does take away the art they've done and I enjoyed, imo ppl should be able to separate the artist from art.

If I have to add a third Holy Grail would be some brand new unheared proshot of 1988 or so.

Yeah, going by the snippets of what we've seen in the ones I've quoted, and the likes of The Ritz 88, it'd be amazing.

They have so much stuff they could use, it's frustrating. Someone else in another thread spoke about instead of the NITL tour selections why not do UYI ones, as well as the early days too touring AFD.

  14. Adding another to my list.

The show's that were recorded for videos. Eg. It So Easy has footage from the Cathouse if memory serves. Paradise City had footage from Donnington.

Taking the assumption that those full shows exist proshot somewhere.

Would be awesome to see those in their entirety, and has an element of realistically being bale to be done, seeing as current iteration of the band is more about the original line up (as apposed to my other holy grail post regarding the rerecorded afd which will never see the light of day bar a huge controversial leak).

  15. Tough question.

First thing that pops to mind bar a few proshot shows would be the re-recorded Appetite.

I'd love to hear thst properly, obviously AFD is it's own beast and have no interest in it being replaced or anything. But hearing that recorded 'version' would be mine, even more unlikely anyone will hear it now that Duff n' Slash are back.

  16. Enjoying watching it so far. But the acting is absolutely appalling that it's hard to stay connected. It feels like a high budget Xena Warrior Princess or something.

Boba needs to be a bit more badass too imo, the first episode he needed the bacta tank after minimal effort - but perhaps there is a story there?

Regardless of the absolutely appalling acting which removes me from the immersion, for want of a better term, I'll continue watching as enjoy the sets, lore etc etc.

Like I've wrote in 2007 when I've post the "Sorry" lyrics: believe me when you see it.

I can hear some bits of info.

    Tidbits:

    - HardSkool more likely intended to close the new album.

    - Slash is giving an interview for Rolling Stone Maganize (FR ed).

    - 2022 tour gets a new name.

    You read it here first!

Here is a short review of each song:

ROLL ON 2 U: Nice rnr track, think of "Outta Get Me" but without all that energy and magic. Nice.

FEELIN' IT: Seems like a good rnr single. Finally, a riff. Superb. Gem of the album. Powerful sound (finally!!). Possible brand new single; first brand new unheared song since 2008.

CASINO NIGHT ZONE: First piano driven song of the album. Rapping Axl returns for a few seconds. Maybe, the first GNR song ever to have a "techno" echo. Very short song but my personal fav.

ELVIS: Think of a "Sorry" lil brother. Nice, angry vocals. Darkest song of the album and that cellos are LOUD for a little moment. 7/10 if you ask me.

OMG: Heaviest song of the album. Almost like screamo Rose on steroids. Buckethead guitar in the background???? Powerful.

ATLAS: Filler. Not as happy as "Casino Night Zone" and not even in the league of "Catcher In The Rye". Interesting intro. 5/10 if you ask me. The Sean Beaven mix was much better.

7: Yes. Yes. YES. This is the quality I was waiting for! EPIC SONG. 10/10. Think of a mix between "Circus Maximus", "D Tune", "Curly Shuffle" and "Poison Heart". I MEAN, FREAKIN' REALLY. AXL, WHAT WAS YOU THINKING WHILE YOU DISCARDED THIS SONG FOR "CHINESE DEMOCRACY"?! WHY YOU PUT "SCRAPED" INSTEAD?! Oh, you need serious help, Axl Rose. Tears on my eyes. Really.

ABSURD!: Second filler. Released as a single. I prefer the 1999 vers.

EL HERMANO: If "Absurd!" is the "Scraped" of this album... This is the "Riad N' The Bedouins". Really nice guitars; little vocals. Maybe, it works very fine as an opener (And put "Roll On 2 U" as track 9; switch places). 3:39 of heavy rock. Hm. After all... It's a new song. Who cares?!

GENERAL: Another "Sorry" little brother. I really see "Elvis" / "Sorry" / "General" like the same batch of melodies, I don't know. Interesting track. Rose vocals not powerful as in "Absurd!" or "Feelin' It". Where is that "grinding riff"?! Sebastiannnnn. Last heavy/dark song of the album.

PERHAPS: Third piano driven song of the album after "Casino Night Zone" and "7". A certainly great upgrade over the 1999 vers. It's dark but with a bit of hope. I like it, I love it!

HERE TODAY: Duff vocals. If "Perhaps" is night; "Here Today" is the dawn or the sunrise. Lovely track; maybe even epic song. Think of a mix between "Misunderstood" and "Crazy" by Aerosmith. I don't know. Just freakin' magic. It's a song of love, sure but it hurts... Still hurts. Beach, sunrise/sunset. I don't know how to describe it. I really love it. 10/10.

RIDERS OUT OF SIGHT: EPIC. YES. YES, LAST EVER ROSE MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIMES. Start like a dark song, like an uninspired "Patience", slow, but later on... I REALLY LOVE YOU AXL. MAN. YOU'RE THE GREATEST FRONTMAN OF ALL TIME. AFTER ALL THIS TIME, THE THING IS THAT WE LOVE YOU, MAN. "NOVEMBER RAIN" / "ESTRANGED" / "RIDERS OUT OF SIGHT". LOVE YOU, MAN. LOVE YOU AS A STARFUCKER. Tears in my eyes again. We are so fortunate to live in this world. Really.

Axl, how beautiful life is while you're in the world.

HARD SKOOL: The great finale. 90's rock and roll style, let's go!! End of the journey. It was a nice ride, right? Like "Roll On 2 U", this is a great direct rock and roll. And life is this.

I can't wait to get my hands on this new album!

Lol what the hell is this?

Is that face palm emoji still around?

Okay so NOW apparently Pattie Jenkins is back so the 2023 film might still be Rogue Squadron. Also apparently Chloe Zhao is not the director for Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie anymore.

Im gonna stop updating this thread with news cause Lucasfilm keeps changing their plans every other day and I can’t keep up anymore.

Lol fair enough too. They have such knee jerk reactions to everything, how many times has news come out that a director is getting a movie or three and then it's pulled later.

Perhaps they should stop communicating stuff to the public until whatever that is has become concrete.

  19. Tough one.

    I've really enjoyed :

    Black Keys, Delta Kreme.

Dinosaur Jr, Sweep it into space.

    Robert Finley, Sharecroppers Son.

Not sure if they're my favourites for the year, but certainly stand out, without thinking to much about it, for records released this year that I've spun regularly.

I say it every year, I wish I liked CD. Every year or so i give it another listen to try and get into it. I tried again a few months ago and it's still a no from me. I loved The Blues so maybe next year it'll happen

Interesting. I'm the opposite. I like CD, and had it from the get go on vinyl - even purchased a whole new system to listen to it through.

However, I'm the opposite in that I'll not listen to it for ages, but every year I'll at least spin it once or twice & remember why I dig it and what I don't like about it (in a good way) and then it doesn't get played for a year or so.
