    Garbage... next...

    (Monsters an SOG please)

My take is Monsters + Atlas would be better. Plus, if you want State of Grace, that would mean Axl actually having to go and record something new in the studio (unless there are versions with other vocals we haven't heard). Which he surely hasn't done for the demos they've released so far.

  2. There may be some art in photography, but it’s still nowhere near painting in terms of art. It means taking a digital result from a machine and modifying it. Which I’m sure involves creativity and some knowledge etc., but painting is an entirely different story; that stuff must completely flow from within you, and the type of paper or paintbrush are not responsible for the result, it may just alter it a little. That’s a no-brainer.
As for AI and art in general, I don’t even think these two things really belong in one sentence, since there’s a crucial difference between a creative process that is completely based on you, your long-term skills etc. (not to mention the human factor, the whatever comes from your soul, subconsciousness...) and between a guy sitting at a computer and saying "right, I’ll give you inputs A, B, C, and D, and you fiddle about and show me some results". No, that’s not art the same way as AC/DC or Peter Gabriel or Enya is real music but rap/hip-hop or techno just isn’t, period. After all, nothing any dick with basic software can create (let alone have created) in 10 minutes can be called art. Again, a no-brainer.
And just because certain boundaries have been shifting in this contemporary deluded society, that doesn’t mean AI is art now.
As for GN’R, I haven’t seen the video yet, but this is exactly the lazy-ass approach I’d expect from them. As if we’ve already received dozens of new song videos from them in the recent years, so now they should just resort to this...

Oh, I definitely prefer the music video to The General to the music video to November Rain. I get that they served a purpose back in the 90s when you had MTV and the band was on top of the world and I don't deny the commercial success of those videos and what it did to cement the legacy of the band. Still, I personally puke a little whenever I inadvertently catch a bit of them. But that's just my personal feelings on them.  I am very much aligned with Slash when it comes to his opinions on music videos. I wasn't even digging them when they came out in the 90s. It was all just Axl's megalomanic ego trip of confusing visuals. But more power to you if you like them - that's great :)

As for whether I have already now concluded that the music video to The General is better than the music video to November Rain? No I haven't. But they will be hard pressed to make a music video that I will find any worse than the video to November Rain. Again, that's my personal opinion. To me, the music video to November Rain makes absolutely no sense story-wise, it cost a tremendous amount of money, it was a pure Axl ego trip with no one else in the band wanting it or even understanding it. It has racked up a huge amount of plays on Youtube because it is a popular song but I doubt many people watch it because of its riveting story. If people watch it without the sound on, which would indicate the video has some inherent value, it must be because they are high on some very psychedelic drugs or in love with Axl. I would suspect any young people watching it would go, "WTF is this weird shit?" To all timers like me it might have some weird sentimental/nostalgic value. But I just see through it without the burden of any of that and it is an incredible expensive collection of cringy scenes making a muddled mess of a story all coming out of the shared minds of Del James and Axl Rose.

I don't care whether the band "live on years to come".  Why would I? But you are right, they will, and partly because of the cringy music videos they made in the 90s. You are absolutely right. That legacy is already cemented.  So I am happy they don't have to rise to the same levels of cringe now and can instead make simple music videos based on live footage. Again, that's my personal opinion. Now let's see how you deal with it...

Cringy? You've just jumped the shark, bud.
You're seriously ridiculous, however it sounds.

The new Beatles song isn't 'AI generated' it's a john lennon recording that was too grainy to use in a released piece. The remaining beatles then recorded all their studio parts (like slash and duff on axl songs) and the AI tech became good enough to isolate johns vocal and not all the background crap. Kind of like what we dream someone will use on the general phone clip. It's incredible extraction technology, not an ai song. So it appears the only person to fall for anything have been those that think that new beatles song is an AI song. It isnt. Whether you like the song or not, that is truly subjective and your own choice.

And yes this is clearly a half assed, 7 week later video to the general. No idea why they couldnt release this when the song dropped.

ahh appears someone beat me to the explanation!

Ok, I believe you here. But I meant it more like generally, you know. People seem to embrace this whole thing in music etc. That's where I wouldn't go, that's all.

yeah I get that. I would imagine the best chance of it happening is that in the future maybe Axl will be in the mood to talk about it some more, at the very least. his china exchange interview comments about being interested in writing an autobiography but being unable to do it cause he doesn't want to hurt Slash's feelings or whatever makes me think that he's the type to want to share his history and a big part of it is the Chinese era.

maybe when enough time has passed cause it seems like it wasn't a fun experience for Axl. I'm optimistic that it will eventually happen, but maybe in the distant future, like you said.

Right, but it would still be great to have at least one other point of view, you know, since there are things e.g. about Axl he himself wouldn’t talk about – like his studio work ethic etc. The weird stuff always fascinates me – like how many times Brain had to redo the drums, or that Axl exclusively works at night, or which songs were made in which studios and why it took so long to release the old demos... Well, one can dream.

yeah but it's like... nobody forced their hand when Axl offered them a job on the condition they'll agree to sign a Gn'R NDA.

No of course, it must have been basically some boilerplate, take it or leave it agreement.
I just wonder whether one day we’ll get some real first-hand insight into the CD era, at least partially, something like the Chinese Whispers web but from one of the musicians. How cool would that be. But then, we also might be waiting for this for 30 years...

  7. I wouldn't have signed any NDA that would extend more than 5 years beyond whatever activity I'm to be involved in.
I know, I know, we don't know shit about the behind-the-scenes reality... but still. This is lame. We need more info, on anything and everything! I think a natural courtesy and gratitude towards Axl actually also plays a huge role here. I mean, BBF, BH or DJ may have quite a number of fans, but their fame had never reached beyond certain limits. And suddenly, the whole world knew who they were. You couldn't get better advertisement or promotion. Plus they're long gone from the band and do their own thing, so why stir any waters and risk someone (Axl) getting pissed off at you for spilling some private beans. They certainly have no reason to risk anything like that for a bunch of internet lunatics.

It won't, trust me. It survived with Biden. (Not that I like Trump)

But, it is pretty damn sad if the best the democrats have is Biden, and I can say the same thing to the republicans about Trump.

Neither party truly supports what is important to me, so I don't really care either way.

None of the above will matter when I'm president!  My first act, of course, will be obtaining all of the Chinese Democracy material with Robin and Bucket's parts present.

I hear that material is stored in areas classified so highly that even presidents don't have access. Only in cases like alien invasion and stuff.
