Yep...as fans we've only really had 5,6 tracks since '94 to get excited about as an official release that will be completely fresh to us...

That is true, almost all of the songs since that time were leaked prior to official release, if that.

This I Love, Scraped, Oh My God, and Sorry I believe are examples of songs that didn't leak before release. The General too. Perhaps I missed one or two, but not Perhaps. :P

Who you kidding? CD releases production was garbage and the new production of leftover tracks are garbage.

Theres a reason people preferred the demos.

They need a proper mixer/engineer/producer for the tracks and to keep caram/axl away

    This is true

I agree the mixing on CD largely wasn’t as good as the leaked mixes, but the mastering by Bob Ludwig was incredible. And over all production of that album better than the rehashed songs by NITL.

  3. I enjoyed a handful of tracks from his 2010 solo album. Anastasia is also great, from one of his subsequent solo records if I'm not wrong. Of course it would be awesome if they had Axl guest sing on a song. Sebastian Bach as well.

Josh Freese on drums of course would be amazing. And/or Brain. Matt too, and Steven for maybe one or two songs that are fitted to his style.

Maybe he can have Robin and/or Buckethead guest on a song if he wants to have multiple leads.

Nah, the more leaks the better.

We could do with some leaks now I think- just get some more stuff out there. They don't want to commercially release this stuff, so it might as well get out there for people to hear if they want to as rot away unheard.

I'm very much against piracy but the leaks have been nothing but positive for GNR fans in the absence of anything else going on.

I agree. I'd love a Village locker type leak, but of all the material from 2002-2010. One can dream!

You can praise them as long as you want but as long as I have my own ears I know it’s garbage what you are listening to.
No offense, you can listen to what ever you want but now that I know what these demos sound like, I don’t have to rely on other people’s opinion.

Cohesive would be the last adjective that comes to mind when listening to those.

That's all a matter of opinion. CD2 probably would of had similar production to the 2008 album if it was released on or prior to the reunion era.

Most of these new re-heated CD songs with NITL are mixed like garbage. I assumed that was the consensus to most fans here, at least those with an ear for that type of thing.

I wouldn't complain as much about the slow drip of singles if they were at least mixed and mastered well. It makes all the difference.

Of course they did and it was necessary. It always makes me laugh when I read how much better the village leaks are. Atlas is the same kind of a mess, but I doubt Slash and Duff can polish that turd.

The Village leaks were rough mixes. The fact they are even compared to the officially released versions speaks volumes for the poor butchering of those songs and even worse production of the final stonewalled product.

His solo shows are waaaay more diverse vocally than SMKC shows. I feel like he feels forced to do that high pitched 80s/90s rock singer thing almost all the time with Slash, but his solo shows feature a lot more of his range. He did a baritone version of the blues song Going Down when I saw him live and it was strong as hell.

Good to know! Thanks. He did play in Michigan on the other side of the state from me a few years back, but I opted not to go because it was in or near Flint. :P

it lacks cohesion where a global concept could have made accept the diversity of the songs.
out of 14 tracks almost half are relatively average, pleasant to listen to but without any particular substance in the long term.

I mean, who regularly listens to If the World, Catcher In the Rye, I.R.S. or even Street of Dreams & Madagascar?

there are very strong things like There Was a Time, Prostitute, This I Love, Better, Shackler's Revenge or even something more controversial like Scraped and you would have something very strong with The General, Perhaps, Hard Skool & Monsters

I get where you are coming from, but I would argue most albums, even by the big bands, only have a handful at most of good songs. Tons of filler, with a few single worthy songs. Guns is no exception, though I happen to enjoy most of CD and AFD. I feel UYI is half filler, at best between the two CDs.

I like If The World, I feel it's one of the best mixed songs they have done.

I dunno why years later there's this "Axl was in the studio every year recording vocals" myth.

Tommy was in the band for a very long time. His word is credible. Even if he exaggerated a little, if Axl didn’t record for a year or two, that’s still a lot of recording. They can and do record while on the road. It’s not hard for them to book a recording studio anywhere they happen to be on a tour. It’s not like the band is performing 24/7 while on tour. They get breaks. They gotta eat, they gotta sleep. They rest as well and do fun and productive things while on the road.
