  1. Axl is trending on yahoo and twitter. His letter is in the Wall Street Journal. Axl is everywhere!

He is a master at getting people to talk about him and he's equally a pro at going off-the-grid as we have all witnessed throughout the better part of 18 years.

This once again proves that he's still as big as any current celebrity even though he does things on his terms in his own time. I'm no longer disappointed that he won't perform with the old band.

There is no hope for you.

If you were disappointed and aren't now, that's just silly. Bipolar much?

If you think Twitter is in any way an indication to how much of a celeb you are you're insane. The most meaningless shit trends on twitter when it's in the news.

If you think this is a great plan of Axl's because now people are talking about him...where do I start.

I wouldn't say that I'm bipolar. I was actually considering going. I'm a huge supporter of the current band and Axl's vision. I've seen them live 14 times since 2006 and will go see them again live again the next time I have the opportunity. But as a fan of the Appetite / Illusions line-up, of course i am disappointed that I won't get to see them perform a few songs together.

What's more important than the one-off reunion performance, for me, is that Axl and this line-up move forward, as he said that he wants to do - hopefully that includes new music. Axl in the headlines is always, should I say, delightful, for me because it reminds the casual music fans that no matter how good their favorite front man is, there is one sleeping giant out there bigger and more talented, who once ruled the world like a T-Rex.

    That's all.

  3. It's disappointing. But in the big picture not a really big deal. The induction only seems like such a huge event because of what we've built it up into with all the discussion.

On the plus side, the letter does seem to indicate a commitment to more New Guns stuff. He still seems like he has something to prove with it by declining his induction. That's your number one sign he's going to release new music.

I agree with this. And I would rather hear new music and see this killer band live than find their work and progress derailed by media and fans calling for a reunion. I'm so used to seeing the current line up that the original one would seem weird to me anyway.

    With hesitation, I support Axl.

  4. I think MSL is hilarious. I like his website and stupid videos of him and his crew playing 2-on-2 basketball (arby's due and someone else, i forget their names). The werestling stuff is funny too. He has a healthy supply of followers on his forum too.

I don't come here to get into the leaked stuff or anything so I didn't really think much of the powerpoint he advertised. I guess I only believed it to be a sales pitch by Doc Maghee and his team for how he intended on bringing GNR to prominence in America. There was something about playing a gig on Superbowl weekend. A big plan like that is uncharacteristic of GNR but sounds like a plan devised by someone trying to show Axl and the band how they could attain more exposure. A marketing plan.

If that was true, we now know that Axl didn't go with it and Doc ultimately enter into a formal agreement with Axl. I imagine that it was a gentlemen's agreement between them that didn't pan out. After all, Axl did announce in a brief press release that he and the band were being managed by Doc. A couple weeks later though, Doc said that he wasn't working with GNR. I think a lot of this was going down at the time when the band was playing in Canada in January/ February 2010. I ran into Doc at the Minneapolis airport. We had been on the same flight and were in Canada for the same reason - to go to GNR shows in Calgary and Edmonton. This is could have been when he made his pitch. I spoke with Doc in Chili's Too at the airport. We talked briefly about what we both thought of the show. He was a nice guy.

  5. Supposedly, Axl is a fan of a pizza place there... Arnie's Pizza? I've never been there but I imagine it's much like the shitty town in Southern Illinois where I was raised- Mt. Vernon, IL. People are strange there. When I go home for a visit, I'm unfamiliar to many of the current residents or I suppose that just look like an outsider. I walk into one of the restaurants and people just glare at you. It's always a strange feeling. Aside from visiting my family, I hate going there, but I guess I have my own version of Arnie's Pizza back there... Pizza Man. If I were a famous rock star, I would have them cater my concerts when I returned to the area.

  6. I think it was a success because the shows were solid and well-received by the fans. But I also feel that it was a success because unlike the arena tour, critics didn't have time to slam the shows before the even occurred. This is important.

For the arena tour in the States, as well as in other parts of the world, many lazy so-called 'critics' made the effort to try to use the same tired rhetoric about the band and it made for bad press.

This time around, the tickets went on sale anywhere from 6 days - 2 weeks before the start date and nobody had time to write a shitty preview. The shows also got over so late that the reviews were often unwritten until the second day or the evening after the show. By the time the writers had the chance to write about it, fan reports were everywhere via social media, which gave the writers less of an opportunity to bash the show without losing credibility.

  7. I like what DJ has done for this band with his attitude and commitment to making GNR big again. Finck never said much, but he never seemed to give us any reason that he was there for anything more than a paycheck. Maybe I'm wrong. If GNR were a fan-driven democracy and we all had a vote, I would vote for DJ based on his enthusiasm alone. His playing is more than adequate. I think Robin's choppy/ sloppy style sounds worse on the older material anyway.

Drumming? I have to admit that I think Brain is a much better drummer, but again, I don't think he was 100% into GNR and it seems that Frank enjoys himself more.

There's a reason for the current line-up's success and a big part of it is compatibility. Axl wants to share the stage with these guys each nights and he seems happy doing it. I hope things stay as they are.

  8. Slash, Duff and Steven will definitely play. I had my doubts about axl. It'd really be very bad for current GnR if he did that.

How exactly would It be bad If he gave the crowd(the fans) a ten minute performance to say thanks for supporting us for the last 25 years. I'm not trying to start a war, I am just curious as to what makes you think It would be bad for current GNR. Hell by the sounds of It they are In favor of It.

It would be great for the fans, no doubts about that. But it would generate a huge nostalgia among fans, it's like using a Bentley for a day and going back to your Prius after that. The Prius won't look as good as it did before the Bentley ride.

Good analogy but I still enjoy the new band more than I think I would enjoy the old band. There's so much energy and potential to make new music that sounds interesting. I am definitely in favor of the classic line up playing together and really want it to happen, but I think the current line-up has so much to offer if they would just get off the road. I'm sure they sound better live than the classic line-up would too.

  9. Which probably means that they are building demand for a new record or they are planning on financing it themselves. I think another successful trek around the States will draw larger audiences and could give them a solid platform to release a new album. It's not a bad plan except for the fact that they can't do multiple things at once and the album at the very least would take a year to record.
