Another favorite of mine was when a member was at a party of a friend who had a load of Portuguese friends in attendance and there was an unheard GNR song blasting through the stereo. The guy then attempted to break in and grab the CD but was caught.

Obviously it was all BS, but I laugh at how imaginative people are and the lengths they go to in order to attempt to troll.

I also remember the one where some guy heard unreleased GnR songs getting blasted from a rooftop at a record label or something but obviously his phone wasn’t working correctly to record anything. 😂

  2. Earning copious amounts of money could be all making them get along, I know I’d just shut up and enjoy the ride if  it meant endless $$$.
Duff and Slash have creative outlets besides GnR so I don’t see why they’d leave, but if they did, I doubt we’d hear from Axl ever again, he’s made enough money…. The Art means nothing to him anymore.  IMHO

  4. I hadn’t listened to UYI in full until now after getting the remasters. I couldn’t tell a huge difference on my car stereo except November rain obviously.

I don’t think they had so much “filler” as it was stated way back then that they were simply “clearing the slate” by releasing everything they’d written upto that point and apparently allowed them to focus on all new compositions moving forward. They broke up instead.

It’s funny that for 30 years I thought that last line of “get in the ring” was Axl but I actually think it’s slash saying “this song is dedicated…….” Am I right?

“And what for?  No, not anymore”

    Instead of

”any more, and what what for?”

    New alt lyrics to Estranged.

I wonder whether these were ‘alt’ lyrics at one point, or whether Axl forgot a line, and made something up off the cuff? Very cool anyway.

Probably the best Sweet Child I’ve ever heard from this concert.

The end of the rant in YCBM is different too, if they’d only just recorded the songs and hadn’t performed them live yet it would be safe to assume he simply forgot the lines. But who knows, I mean… the guy used a teleprompter for his own songs lol

And the only thing that tops that was CD release in late ‘08 and the tour kickoff in late ‘09, forum was crazy!

I remember the best times were when the snippets of Better leaked and everyday for like a week we got leaks of irs, twat, and cd. The forum was insane… that would have been around 2006

i heard Steven has back problems so he probably can't follow them on their long and massive touring schedule, which is what they're mostly doing now.

I wonder if Izzy would come back if GnR suddenly reach a loot-splitting negotiation that Izzy was happy with, or if Izzy is already happy as he is now, and GnR are happy with keeping Fortus.

Obviously there were negotiations and they weren’t prepared to give Izzy an equal share which is a real shame because I think in the long run, that would have led to new original music sooner

Just watched Don’t Cry and S. Hoon. The band was so good back then. The energy they put off was off the chart. I was a freshman in HS in ‘91 so I remember how popular they really were - do you think it was all of Axl’s diva behavior that truly broke the band?

I watched it and thought, hey camera man, there’s other members, not just Axl and Shannon

I think we all agree on this. Basically, they should, they could, but they won't (most probably). 😁

Cant say they're really good on marketing  either. I mean most countries are undergoing prices crisis. Who releases a 400-500$ boxset with barely no promotion during that period? The smart move would have been to release a stand alone version of the Blu-ray for 25-30$, most people could afford it. And if you're really good, you release a "deluxe version" of the Blu-ray in a special packaging, and an extra (video) disc of...Vegas 92 for instance and you release it for 50 bucks. 49.99 and you have almost everyone on board.

Regarding a new album: it was 17 years between UYI and CD so maybe in 2025 if we're lucky?

They ain’t getting my money, the only thing of interest to me is the blu Ray and I’m sure it’ll be on the torrents, it’s enough paying $200 for a ticket to see Axl choking and sputtering his way thru a show, fuck them and their box set. 😂

I got the below email a few hours ago regarding the future of the show. Looks like that going forward it'll be produced under another Podcast Network that will have an already established audience that will help fund the rest of the series to tell the story of GNR's formation and early days. I thought something like this would have had much more of a significant impact on the fanbase in terms of subscriptions, even to the really high hundreds, but for whatever reason, it just wasn't to be. The effort going into the podcast's creation is of top quality and all the episodes were brilliantly crafted, so I can only hope that going forward it remains to that standard under the new producers.

Cheers for the great work, Marc, Jason and the rest of the team behind the scenes!

Hi Patrons. We hope you are still enjoying Season One and we have a big update here about the future of the show.

It was a tremendous effort by our amazing team to write, record, edit and publish Season One and upon completion, we needed to find funding to continue producing the remaining seasons. Our Patreon subscriptions targets fell well short of what we needed to self fund this project, so we began looking for lead sponsors who would fund the show to completion.

During that search, an opportunity was presented to us to license the show to a major podcast producer who has five number one hits shows behind them and let them recreate The First 50 Gigs in a new format. After telling the GNR origin story, they would go on to profile other band origin stories in other cities, including Seattle, New York, London, Austin, etc.

We decided to move forward with them, since they will be bringing thousands more listeners to this great story.

What that means is that our current version of The First 50 Gigs will remain here on Patreon until January 2023 and then we will begin to post new content and behind the scenes content from the new show in development. You all will get exclusive and early access to that production in 2023.

So while it’s a bit of a bitter sweet end to Season One, since the show will be produced with another team, we are thrilled that the project will continue in a different format and reach thousands more people. We will be posting more about this new show soon.

What that means for our subscribers moving forward?

You can continue supporting the show at your current subscription of $15 a month and have access to everything we’ve published.

In November, we’ll be lowering the annual payment from $100 to $50 and that will also give you access to all of Season One content for a year and allow you to be the first to see material from the new show without having to pay every month.

We appreciate your support during this production and we are happy to answer any questions you might have. Please drop us a line.

If you do not wish to continue supporting the show and you’ve watched all the content to date, make sure you cancel your subscription before November 1st. We’d be disappointed if you left, but understand if you’ve consumed all the content and are waiting for us to publish more in 2022.

    Thank you Patrons.

Jason and the First 50 Gigs Team

I’d say Marc has had the GNR lawyers in touch with a lot of threats. They’ve become a brand who doesn’t give a fuck about what they originally stranded for, now it’s just $$$

This is dumb. It's been 6 years with this line up, with tons of great shows. There's obviously chemistry with all involved. Chemistry is certainly not the issue when it comes to this band making or putting out new music.

It’s impossible to say for sure. CD was a dumpster fire for the most part and nobody would have even noticed it if it didn’t have a GnR label on it, IMO of course.

and yeah… 6 years of playing covers every night… that don’t take much chemistry,  just practice.

Sticking a bunch of good musicians in a room doesn’t mean they’ll make something good. That’s a fact.

They had their chance with robin and buckethead to do something great and Axl blew it…. Again. Now we have a legacy act.

Really? Do you actually think Duff and Slash, who are

    a) artistically satisfied by other ventures (SMKC, Loaded et Al)

    b) getting an enormous nightly wage touring

    c) approaching 60 years old

..are going to leave or risk their insanely lucrative position in GNR because there’s no studio time booked? Studio time with their nightmare bandleader who’s a renowned perfectionist/sociopath? These guys have DONE IT. They’ve climbed the mountain. They’re not hungry 20 year olds with an artistic point to prove. They’re collecting cheques and colouring within the lines to provide for future generations of their families. You’re nuts if you think theyre going to jeopardise their golden ticket in the name of ‘creativity’ at this point.

Not to mention that Axl has incompetent management and there simply may not be any musical chemistry with Richard, frank or Melissa to actually create something new and Axls voice is completely shot.

It will be an uphill battle to make a new record so if anything, it will be CD leftovers, fans should prepare to be disappointed.
