  1. Of course pure repetition and persistence can convince people regardless of the validity of whatever arguments is put forward. I don't think that's the reason why people repeat themselves, though. I think they have become somehow addicted to reading and posting in this thread. To say the same things over and over.
  2. I didn't say people don't have lives outside of the forum. I was saying why post the same thing again and again in this specific thread when you could do something worthwhile instead? We have been going in circles for years, when will people get fed up stating the same opinions and when will people get fed up reading those same opinions? It adds absolutely nothing to absolutely nothing.
  3. I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't pondering why people are still exited and still post on forums. But why people specifically post the same stuff again and again in a thread dedicated to the new album. As I said, this thread could just lie dormant until something happens. It wouldn't hurt anyone. People can still discuss and chat elsewhere. But no, people have to state the same things over and over again in this thread, and then we have the invariable comment about how long the thread is. Well, go figure.
  4. But why not fill that waiting with...life? Like, do something constructive, like pet a dog or talk to your relatives. I just don't get why some people constantly post the same thing over and over as if their entire lives revolve around this very thread. But hey, I didn't want this to come off as criticism, as I said I don't care, I just don't get it. Maybe some posters are paid by the forum to post a certain number of posts per day.
  5. Heh, I am not saying it is nuts, I just don't get it. I am also not saying it is not nuts But every time I see this thread has grown with a few pages I think, "Is there news!?" only to see the same guy talking about what he wants to hear from the unreleased songs, the same guy despondently concluding there will never be new music, the same guy taking a jab at the band, etc. I do understand why people are still here and are still interested in the band, I just don't get the need to redundantly say the same things over and over.
  6. What I don't get is why people keep posting the same stuff again and again, over and over. The same opinions, the same jokes, the same arguments. Round and round. It's like some people think they have a quota to fill, a certain number of posts they have to make every day. Don't get me wrong, I am not against it, I just don't get it. This thread could lay dormant until some actual news came, and then it would spring to life again. But no, every day people post the same reflections, ribs and ripostes.
  7. There are basically two different approaches: (1) reduce the amount of guns or (2) make people less likely to use guns in violence (or a combination thereof). The latter is the essence of the "guns do not kill people, people kill people" argument that gun lovers tend to use. The problem with the latter approach is that it means you have to somehow change people to make them less likely to use guns in violence. And that requires structural societal changes, like a different way of taking care of the mentally ill, less financial inequality in society, a moving away from gun and violence culture, etc etc, all of which are much harder to achieve, on paper at least, than introducing sensible gun laws. Which is why other countries have simply enacted more strict gun laws and enjoyed a reduction in gun violence. Serbia, btw, is now discussing banning hand guns after their two recent tragedies. Unfortunately, in the US, introducing sensible gun laws isn't as easy as it has been elsewhere, because of the political tribalism, corruption, lobbyists, wide-spread ignorance - basically, because their democracy is flawed in so many ways - so in short: That country is fucked. The gun violence will not be reduced because they can't do either (1) or (2). At least in the short term.
  8. No, it really is THAT simple. If sensible gun laws could be introduced in the US it would have a significant effect on gun violence. Australia, Canada and the UK are some examples.
  9. It is so simple that all comparable countries have managed to do it. It is not simple for the US, though. Hence the /thread.
  10. You're right. So the mass shootings will continue.
  11. Well, sensible gun laws would be a start.
  12. Can't vote, I haven't even heard half of these solos.
  13. I don't think AI will replace musicians. A large part of loving music is always connecting to, idolizing, getting that personal connection to the musicians themselves. Can you imagine kids having posters on the walls of computers and binary code? No, they will want to have poster of guitar players there, rappers, singers, etc. That is part of human nature, and algorithms can't replace it. You can't extricate musicians from music. So at that level AI can never replace what we have today. Additionally, I am not entirely convinced we are on the verge of AI being able to truly create innovation in music, to create novelty. AI is good at emulating existing artists and genres, like writing songs based on existing models and patterns. The creativity needed for great music isn't that easy to program into algorithms. And the rules for what makes good music good, is also not so easy to program, partly because those rules are somewhat unknown but also because what becomes a hit and what becomes a popular band goes beyond the mere music but has to do with what aligns with the current overall zeitgeist and what resonates with changes in culture and society. So going back to my comment about not having problems with AI music. I don't. But I also don't foresee that it will ruin music and music industry as some here seems to take for granted.
  14. Yeah, music will never die out. People will always enjoy playing music and listening to music. Only if we changes in fundamental ways will music die out. But the music industry will definitely change, and continue to change.
  15. I have absolutely no idea how my disdain for philosophy has any relevance to this discussion. Care to explain to me? Again, I have never said I don't care for thinking (what an absurd thought), or that I don't care about ethics (what a weird thing to say), or that I don't care about the human impact (are you high?). In fact, being in favor of AI music if, and only if, it brings people joy, means I care about the human impact. That's exactly what it means. Lip syncing? Fat positivity? What on earth are you going on about? Let's focus on the topic at hand, if you are able.
  16. What are you going on about? I didn't say I don't care about thinking, or that I don't care about ethics, or that I don't care about the human impact. I said I wouldn't mind AI music. And if it brings my joy then it would surely bring others joy. Win for me and win for them.
  17. I wouldn't mind AI music. If it's good, it's good. I don't care how it was made if it gives me joy.
  18. Most of you have probably seen this in an earlier version. I added more data! Now 45% more incomprehensible! 72% more trivial stats! The new data, in addition to updating for 2020 and 2021, includes graph that shows what albums they play at live shows (in %) and a graph that shows setlist lengths.
