  1. But your claim wasn't that they can't do it by themselves, but that they can't do it without Izzy specifically. It is clear that Axl/Slash/Duff haven't been able to release any new music these years (Hard Skool and Absurd excepted), but claiming this is because Izzy is out of the picture is not so clear. Most people would sensibly argue that the main reason is that they haven't been in a band together for most of this period. Because this is the statement that I am objecting to: "The truth is that Axl, Slash and Duff were not able to release an unpublished album without Izzy". Please pay attention
  2. Thank you! I don't have any plans for a book right now, I feel I have so much more groundwork to do before I can even contemplate such things. TAs for my immediate plan, right now it is to complete this the way I am doing it, i.e get to the present (currently working on 2016, so a few more years to go!). And when that is done I want to go over it and make it better by adding a few sentences here that adds context, move chapters around, add more images, add links, draw lines to previous events, etc. Basically just increase the readability of it. The purpose will still be to let the quotes speak for themselves without providing interpretation and creating a narrative that might not be true, but just make it a better read. Then I might consider other media to make it more accessible to people, maybe a book or something like that, but it must be free for people to access and read. This is totally non-profit, and for two reasons: I want it to be perceived exactly as it is, a nerdish labor of love; and because no one should ever be able to suggest I am not 100% impartial and objective by having accepted money from anyone. My agenda is only to present what has actually been said by the band members (and those close to them) over the years, and sort this chronologically and thematically. Other people can then create stories and narrative out of it. But it will be harder to create a narrative not based on facts when anyone can just verify by checking with my work.
  3. The next chapter, covering the entire 2015, is now out: (6) 35. 2015: AXL AND SLASH MAKE PEACE, DJ LEAVES THE BAND, WILL 2016 BE THE YEAR OF THE REUNION? (a-4-d.com) 2015 was an interesting year. On one hand nothing really happened with the current version of the band (except DJ leaving), the band was on hiatus and Frank and Richard (not DJ) would talk vaguely about something happening in 2016. On the other hand, Axl and Slash were clearly getting over their feud, resulting in various rumours about Slash rejoining the band (whilst DJ was leaving) and a reunion tour coming up in 2016. Not only that, these rumours become more and more concrete (unlike DJ's position in the band) as the year went on with the band itself hinting towards big things to come (as if DJ leaving wasn't enough). The year ended with Axl planning to guest at the Jimmy Kimmel show, widely expected to be him presenting details about the 2016 reunion tour. What wasn't clear, though, was what the 2016 lineup would look like (except that DJ was out), if it was just a single show or two, and if new music was also in the cards. Oh, the excitement! 4. Yeah, as I said, I don't get it. There are various other threads dedicated to just chatting and general musings on GN'R. But again, not criticising it, I was just perplexed by it
  5. Again, I am still not talking about why people post at this forum, but this thread.
  6. Of course pure repetition and persistence can convince people regardless of the validity of whatever arguments is put forward. I don't think that's the reason why people repeat themselves, though. I think they have become somehow addicted to reading and posting in this thread. To say the same things over and over.
  7. I didn't say people don't have lives outside of the forum. I was saying why post the same thing again and again in this specific thread when you could do something worthwhile instead? We have been going in circles for years, when will people get fed up stating the same opinions and when will people get fed up reading those same opinions? It adds absolutely nothing to absolutely nothing.
  8. I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't pondering why people are still exited and still post on forums. But why people specifically post the same stuff again and again in a thread dedicated to the new album. As I said, this thread could just lie dormant until something happens. It wouldn't hurt anyone. People can still discuss and chat elsewhere. But no, people have to state the same things over and over again in this thread, and then we have the invariable comment about how long the thread is. Well, go figure.
  9. But why not fill that waiting with...life? Like, do something constructive, like pet a dog or talk to your relatives. I just don't get why some people constantly post the same thing over and over as if their entire lives revolve around this very thread. But hey, I didn't want this to come off as criticism, as I said I don't care, I just don't get it. Maybe some posters are paid by the forum to post a certain number of posts per day.
  10. Heh, I am not saying it is nuts, I just don't get it. I am also not saying it is not nuts But every time I see this thread has grown with a few pages I think, "Is there news!?" only to see the same guy talking about what he wants to hear from the unreleased songs, the same guy despondently concluding there will never be new music, the same guy taking a jab at the band, etc. I do understand why people are still here and are still interested in the band, I just don't get the need to redundantly say the same things over and over.
  11. What I don't get is why people keep posting the same stuff again and again, over and over. The same opinions, the same jokes, the same arguments. Round and round. It's like some people think they have a quota to fill, a certain number of posts they have to make every day. Don't get me wrong, I am not against it, I just don't get it. This thread could lay dormant until some actual news came, and then it would spring to life again. But no, every day people post the same reflections, ribs and ripostes.
  12. There are basically two different approaches: (1) reduce the amount of guns or (2) make people less likely to use guns in violence (or a combination thereof). The latter is the essence of the "guns do not kill people, people kill people" argument that gun lovers tend to use. The problem with the latter approach is that it means you have to somehow change people to make them less likely to use guns in violence. And that requires structural societal changes, like a different way of taking care of the mentally ill, less financial inequality in society, a moving away from gun and violence culture, etc etc, all of which are much harder to achieve, on paper at least, than introducing sensible gun laws. Which is why other countries have simply enacted more strict gun laws and enjoyed a reduction in gun violence. Serbia, btw, is now discussing banning hand guns after their two recent tragedies. Unfortunately, in the US, introducing sensible gun laws isn't as easy as it has been elsewhere, because of the political tribalism, corruption, lobbyists, wide-spread ignorance - basically, because their democracy is flawed in so many ways - so in short: That country is fucked. The gun violence will not be reduced because they can't do either (1) or (2). At least in the short term.
  13. No, it really is THAT simple. If sensible gun laws could be introduced in the US it would have a significant effect on gun violence. Australia, Canada and the UK are some examples.
  14. It is so simple that all comparable countries have managed to do it. It is not simple for the US, though. Hence the /thread.
  15. You're right. So the mass shootings will continue.
  16. Well, sensible gun laws would be a start.
  17. Can't vote, I haven't even heard half of these solos.
  18. I don't think AI will replace musicians. A large part of loving music is always connecting to, idolizing, getting that personal connection to the musicians themselves. Can you imagine kids having posters on the walls of computers and binary code? No, they will want to have poster of guitar players there, rappers, singers, etc. That is part of human nature, and algorithms can't replace it. You can't extricate musicians from music. So at that level AI can never replace what we have today. Additionally, I am not entirely convinced we are on the verge of AI being able to truly create innovation in music, to create novelty. AI is good at emulating existing artists and genres, like writing songs based on existing models and patterns. The creativity needed for great music isn't that easy to program into algorithms. And the rules for what makes good music good, is also not so easy to program, partly because those rules are somewhat unknown but also because what becomes a hit and what becomes a popular band goes beyond the mere music but has to do with what aligns with the current overall zeitgeist and what resonates with changes in culture and society. So going back to my comment about not having problems with AI music. I don't. But I also don't foresee that it will ruin music and music industry as some here seems to take for granted.
  19. Yeah, music will never die out. People will always enjoy playing music and listening to music. Only if we changes in fundamental ways will music die out. But the music industry will definitely change, and continue to change.
