  1. After Azoff does this festival with the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, he's probably going to do the same thing next year with Van Halen playing 2 night stadium shows with Sam one night, Dave the next, Michael Anthony and Wolfgang taking turns on bass. It wouldn't be far fetched if GNR play one or two of those shows, even factoring in the Azoff vs Rose lawsuit. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Van Halen's first album and the 30th anniversary of AFD (or at least when AFD screamed up the charts) at one show??  It would be for a ridiculous amount of money to see it happen, esp. if there was an AFD lineup reunion w/ Izzy & Steven taking part, it would be a year and a half from now.

  2. Just saw  "Gimme Danger" about the Stooges, which was a lot of fun to watch, just heard about one called "Beside Bowie" about Mick Ronson coming soon, "The Terry Kath Experience" about the late guitarist of Chicago also coming out soon and looks good.

  3. There's also the KISS Kruises which seem to do well every year, some of it's cheesy like "cooking with Paul Stanley" but as far as meet and greet/fan experience events go, it's a good one. I think they do M&Gs at every show but have no idea how much they run. Probably better off doing the Kruise.

It'll be Tommy Thayer to the very last gig in KISS makeup, I doubt we'll see Ace or Peter in makeup anymore. An out of makeup show, I can see Ace being a special guest, or Bruce Kulick.

The show is still great but Paul's voice cracks here and there. Gene sounds fine.

I don't think they met but I did hear that Freddy liked Axl, I think May said that sometime when talking about the performers at the benefit concert.

They might have talked over the phone in 1991 when Axl heard Freddie was sick, pretty much everyone knew why but he didn't want to make an announcement about it.

I think Axl's also good friends with Bernie Taupin who lives or lived in Santa Ynez, surprised he's never been asked to co-write with GNR. Or maybe he did and it didn't pan out.

The tribute concert was the beginning of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, but you pretty much have every great frontman in rock sharing the same stage - Paul Rodgers, Axl, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, David Bowie. I think it was also Mick Ronson's last concert.

  5. In 2004, people were already burning copies of their own "GNR Greatest Hits" but I guess a lot of people still wanted storebought copies.

The lawsuit was a losing battle because hits and live albums were part of the recording contract.

Sometimes a hits collection can hurt a back catalog, It probably hurt UYI I & 2 more than AFD. Estranged was nowhere as big as November Rain.

I have to wonder what Axl's reaction was when he got the RIAA platinum award for Greatest Hits.

Cheetah Chrome said GNR sales were a huge cash injection for him. Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney make so much money in publishing and their back catalogs that they probably didn't notice.

I feel like both are there in spirit anyway. As are all that contributed to the records. Who takes the field any given sunday depends on who owns the team at the time.

I mean if the band werent as big and they were doing clubs/theatres, short tours, maybe both Izzy and Steven would be there, but Axl might have gone solo. So many scenarios.

A few shows in LA to mark the anniversary of AFD?

But does that nix the mega bucks shows that could come later?

If GNR did 2 nights at the Hollywood Bowl (and those Bowl shows can go into November)  I can see Izzy and Steven taking part in it.

What a shameful thing that Axl din't even come for rehearsals, according to Axl he worked so hard to put his new band together and din't even rehearse with them once?

Josh Freese is a fabulous drummer, I wish he could play some shows, he was there at Coachella, I wish Axl called him on stage to play some CD songs.

He was paying a lot of money out so wouldn't he expect them to be ready for anything? If the show did well or sucked, it was all on Axl, esp. after Rock in Rio.

  8. A lot of sidemen live modestly because when they're not on the road, but it's enough to not worry about a mortgage - however, they start looking at one room as being a  home studio and there goes the money, but it's their version of a home office/mancave.

I'm sure what he made in GNR allowed him to buy a nice Hollywood home, but even A-list celebrities have neighbors and don't all live behind gates. Some people just have an overpriced condo because they don't want to plant roots there. Some musicians are "homeless" but rich, so they'll live in hotels, at their girlfriend's, or even with mom or  a sibling. Or in an RV...but that RV's probably a half million dollars, parked in Malibu a few feet from the ocean - and can work on their music in there. Vagabond life.

You're not going to get the number out of any of them, but in a Q&A, if you ask "what can a sideman make in a big rock band LIKE theStones or Guns",you might get a ballpark figure.

  9. They're just talking about a calendar year, plus bands back in the day would also record non-album singles to have something coming out every few months for radio. It also depended on the length of their tours. Led Zeppelin worked on II on different studios while on tour.

You also had some bands that had signed to different record labels with their old label still releasing "new" albums.

Zappa's Apostrophe & Overnite Sensation were released 6 months apart but were recorded at the same time. He also released Sheik Yerbouti & Joe's Garage within the same calendar year.

The Doors s/t and Strange Days were within a year.

The Beatles had also released Help & Rubber Soul in the same year, and you're always going to have Beatle fans divided on which was the better year.

Dylan Highway 61 Revisited  & Bringing It All Back Home.

Bowie didn't just work on Low and Heroes, he also worked on Iggy's The Idiot & Lust For Life.

CCR - 3 albums - Bayou Country, Willie and the Poor Boys, & Green River - should have been in the top 5.

The jazz, funk and fusion world was a little different - they could knock out an album in less than a week and have a second albums' worth of material finished in that time. James Brown had 4-5 albums out within a year. George Clinton in the 70s had an insane amount of music out there under different names and record labels.

I remembered some documentaries on youtube. That disasterous Metallica x Guns concert, Lars Ulrich (if I'm not mistaken) said after Axl abruptly end the show, he went to backstage and complained about his throat was scratchy so he couldn't sing well but after that he smoke and drink some more

He was sick and he struggled for almost an hour through the set. You hear him getting worse and worse.

  11. I don't know if "sideswiped" or "blindsided" are appropriate in Bumblefoot's case.

People buy limited edition 600 dollar box sets of everything in the vaults, so GNR could easily put some 30 CD mammoth box set with a coffeetable book/doorstopper and all the digital files out there, only if they're never going to rework the songs or release them as is on a future release.

No. We also await the joys of a Guns N' Roses condom. I still wouldn't say Rose is now a million miles off Kiss.

One thing about Kiss is they do put out things the fans want like archival stuff, e.g. the Kissologies and outtakes boxset - and of course they released two albums in a fairly short span of time. Not everything they put out is worthless tat like coffins and condoms. A lot of it is, but not everything.

    Just subjective.

I enjoyed the Scooby Doo DVD, they should have done that instead of running around an amusement park back in the 70s.

The only thing I didn't like about KISSology was how each store would have a different "exclusive" DVD.

The box set was padded with hits and album cuts, they should have released the Wicked Lester album, the 3 Killers songs and the other "new" songs they put on from the other greatest hits packages. Maybe the solo albums being released as a single disc would have been cool. I felt the same way about Bonfire....we REALLY needed another Back in Black??

I like box sets to have all the b-sides, single edit versions, demos, 12" mixes, etc.

KISS did sell a lot of product in the 90s but they're like any band on the road. When Elton plays Vegas, he has way more crap for sale than KISS does at their shows. It's been 20 years since I saw KISS crap at stores like Spencers.

Guns N Roses sold "vintage style" t-shirts,  ornaments, foam middle fingers, bracelets, water bottles, beach blankets, onesies, underwear.

I'd approve no one but Stevie.  Well actually i don't give a flying fuck but I mean if you pose the question and I'm bound to answer then Stevie.  We're finally getting to a place where the original lads might all get on the firm together for the first time in decades, last thing we need is a step backwards.

Josh Freese, the cunt never played a gig with em did he?  He might be fuckin' awful in a GnR context live.

He's a great live drummer. He had a job to do with GNR, what he would have done live with GNR would have been a lot looser or precise, depending on the song. He just couldn't commit at the time to them.
