  1. We humans have some fucked up attitudes toward animals.

How is it a fucked up attitude towards animals if they are trying to preserves the gene pool for the long term protection of the species?

They're trying to preserve the gene pool of a captive population, whose captivity is their own doing. Read the language of that article. The entire value of the animal is wrapped up in whether it is useful for breeding purposes for fucking zoos. When it is not, it becomes simply expendable.

@Sunny: I don't know if I'll be able to watch that. Cruelty to animals is something I just can't stomach, quite literally. I couldn't get through a day if I didn't pretend most of the shit didn't exist. I try as best I can to separate my emotional response from my principled response. I'm sure I fail. We all do.

They are trying to preserve the population of giraffes in captivity as part of a wider conservation of the species; a species which has halved in the last few decades and by about 90% in the last couple of centuries or so. Part of that preservation, whether we like it or not, is to ensure that the gene pool is as healthy and varied as possible. Now, whilst I don't agree that this giraffe had to be put down, I do understand why it was done.

If you are so outraged look at it this way; the giraffe was eaten by lions so that saved another animal or two from their plate.

Exactly, Marius was a martyr, who died to save others. ;)

If they had sold (and saved) the giraffe, is it less sad for other animals to be killed and fed to the lions ? I don't get it.

Is anyone enraged about all the poor animals being eaten today by the lions (or by other animals/humans) ? Seems so hypocrite. But if the giraffe was dissected in public, I think that was unnecessary. Anyhow, if I was in that zoo, I wouldn't go watch it. No one can force you to watch that.

  2. Most easily pacified fan base ever. Tweet nonsense ---------> Win. I'll find this shit entertaining when I'm convinced he's not just putting in the least possible effort to get some cheap attention.

Come on, allow the man the time to post some tweets in between all that hard work: rehearsals, recordings, writing music, working-out, vocal exercises... ^_^

No, seriously, I know we all want new music, and I don't think we're all pacified, but I like hearing from him all the same.

I hear ya, and I don't want to just shit on anyone who enjoys hearing from Axl one way or the other, but I'm just so done with being played, and I'm so jaded that I really do see this as cheap publicity. Write a song? Nope. Put together a final mix of old songs? Nope. Record a verse? Nope. Go to the studio? Nope. Brisk walk on the treadmill? Nope. Practice singing so we don't have to be hearing about a cartoon mouse all year? Nope. Communicate with the fans regarding future plans for the band? Nope. Communicate with guitarist in your own fucking band about plans for the band? Nope. Tweet snide comments about a band that is currently orders of magnitude better than yours, and about fucking giraffes in Denmark, all from the comfort of your couch, with a pint of Ben & Jerry's in hand? Word.

Now, I don't know for sure that this is how it's going down, but, at this point, it's Axl who has to prove something to me. Until then, I'm gonna assume he's being the lazy shit he's been for a while. Prove me wrong. I'll happily change my tune.

No, I understand, I was only joking. I've only been following (again) since last summer, so that's probably why I'm not fed up with it yet. I do hope that he proves you wrong though. If not, odds are that I'll be just as disillusioned as you are now.

  4. Axl has no desire to speak to the ""fans" who come to MyGNR and call him shit all the time. I'm sure he wouldn't mind talking to us on Nightrain

HTGTH has existed for years. He has never posted there. Ever.

    Yes he has

Please share his posts from there with us! Has he been posting there lately? Any important stuff? News about the album?

I don't think he posted there recently. Look in the Axl Rose Chats in this forum. There's also a transcript of his visit to HTGTH.

  5. TB- talk about mismanagement. Get a real manager Axl.

Why can't these guys even get the simple stuff correct?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the issue here that a forum-member tricked an employee into giving out info that she shouldn't have? And now that there is a scheduling mix-up at the Hard Rock you blaming TB?

True, I think. Although I think he just called, asked and got an answer. Not really tricking, I think. But you're right. Maybe we can't pin this on TB ;)

  6. To be honest, I think there are people in both "camps" taking it way too far. I don't know if it gets worse each year, since I've only been following this forum for a few months.

And I agree with Russ, I don't see why you have to hate Slash to be an Axl-fan. Makes no sense to me at all. Why should you have to choose sides ? It's not as if we're in a personal relationship with either of them.

  7. Is an announcement coming today?

No, apparently. Here is what NGOG posted earlier today:

"Update: In typical GNR fashion, the Hard Rock have delayed Monday's big announcement.

Phone inquiries are no longer being entertained by Hard Rock staff.

Whatever logistic is holding confirmation up - many have speculated that a comedian's appearance conflicts with GNR's - we hope to update you when possible."

  8. Fuck all y'all, Free Bird is great. In fact, it i would be it is the single.most requested song at concerts around here. I was at the Mötley/KISS gig in 2012 and after Rock And Roll All Nite someone behind me yelled PLAY FREE BIRD. At the Skynyrd gig, Free Bird was the one that probably got the loudest cheer. Even at the KISS gig in Simpsonville I heard someone yell FREE BIRD. And I can't forget all the douchebags with guitars at my school who are asked to play Stairway and Free Bird. Anyways I wouldn't mind hearing it live once by Axl. It'd be better than LALD imo :shrugs:

Yeah but I thought you of all people would understand they are taking the piss when they call that...

I always tell shithouse buskers to play Paranoid, that doesn't mean I want them to play it.

It seems you're not the only one yelling Paranoid either ;) From Rocklopedia:

"It has become a popular culture cliché for the audience of almost any concert to shout “Free Bird” as a request to hear the song, regardless of the performer or style of music. There are equivalents for “Free Bird” in some countries; in Brazil, it could be translated to “Toca Raul!” (“Play Raul!”), in a reference to Raul Seixas. In Australia, the audience may shout “Play Khe Sanh!” referring to the Cold Chisel classic. In Finland, the audience is often heard shouting “Soittakaa Paranoid!” (“Play Paranoid!”) referring to the song “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath."

  9. Everytime i hear Get in the Ring it's like i'm 11 years old again and Axls stickin' up for me, 'you been rippin' off the fuckin' kids while they been paying their hard earned money to read about the bands they wanna know about!' it was like 'yes, yes, YES!! He's talkin' about me, he's talkin' about me!

This. That's why I don't get the hate for Get in the Ring. It was so cool back in the day, like you say, Axl sticking up for us, us against the rest of the world sort of thing. Still makes me smile every time I hear it. Maybe that's just nostalgia though...

To be honest you're reading a little too much into my post that was more highlighting the silliness of my 11 yr old self as opposed to any actual affinity with Axl ranting at a bunch of reporters. It was cool back in the day cuz, lets face it, he's cursing and being lairy and when you're 11/12/13 or rather when i was 11/12/13 i thought that was a really cool and big and clever thing to do, to tell everyone to go fuck themselves and moreover, my inner moron is still alive and well and kinda still likes that shit.

To be really frank, when i first heard Get in the Ring i didn't know you could talk like that on record, i was at that age still where i thought cursing and cool were the same thing

Okay, I think I got what you meant the first time, but maybe my answer didn't come across as it was meant. In the future, I'll limit my answer to 'Agreed' ;)

OT: I really liked So Fine too, a nice, softer song, and I played it often. I don't think it's one of their top songs, but I still think it's okay, doesn't bother me. So no, don't get all the hate for that either. :shrugs:

  11. I think it was funny and I am glad to hear from him! Some members here take this far too seriously: RHCP will be mad, the press/people will tear him to shreds... Come on, it's not that important and he's got a point. I'm sure the Peppers would have prefered to play live as well, so I think they also see this as a jab at the organisation/industry, whatever, not really at RHCP.

People are always complaining Axl is a recluse, shut himself off etc. Now he does this and some of you are like: 'Why does he do this ? This is so bad...'

I wish he'd do this kind of thing (speak his mind, I mean) more often (wouldn't get my hopes up though). To me, it shows he still cares.

  12. I wish you all the best, rock4eva, you and your husband! From what I've read about you here, you seem like an incredibly strong woman. Although I know life often forces you to be strong, and you have no other option than to be strong. (At least, that's how I see it.) I do hope the therapy goes well and you don't feel too ill.

I'm not really good at jokes, but if I come across one, I'll be sure to post it here ;)

    Big hug!

  13. I reached the "Fuck this band" point twenty years ago. I was still a teenager and for me, GNR was everything. I bought all the magazines I could find, played the music day and night, saved up to buy bootlegs... Bought tickets to the concert, but it was cancelled, due to Duff having stomach ache, so the flyer I received at the venue said. I cried all night, but maybe that was my Fuck This Band moment. After that, my interest faded, I discovered other bands and my GNR-obsession was something I became rather embarrassed about. When the band fell apart, I wasn't surprised.

Recently, I rediscovered GNR and I enjoy hearing it again, I like CD too, much to my surprise. I would like to hear new music, but I don't hold my breath. If nothing comes, I'll be alright. I would still like to see Axl succeed.

I don't think I'll ever reach the Fuck This Band moment again, because it's not that important to me anymore.
