  1. I truly believe that Axl and the entire album would have been praised for the musical departures and experimenting that took place, just like Phil Collins was praised for his work post-Genesis. But you'll notice that Phil Collins didn't call his band Genesis after he broke away from Peter Gabriel and the rest of the band. I'm not saying Axl was right or wrong either way, but releasing CD under the Guns N' Roses banner has certainly affected both the public's perception and the legacy of the album.

  2. Richard's touring with Thin Lizzy this summer, & Ron's latest message states that he's looking forward seeing the fans at RIR. Until we hear otherwise, it looks like the band's going to be on a little hiatus until October. If that's the case, then I agree with the other posters who say that RIR is going to be very idicative of whether the new album is going to be out sooner than later.

I wonder what, if any, new songs will be debuted first.

  3. That's ridiculous compared to the album production post. The music of the album is paied and finished, that's what I meant.

And what about if the record company, having seen how much they put into CD 1, compared to how much they got back, reject the rest of the material?

I dunno about that. It's still a new Guns N' Roses album, and while CD didn't sell millions in the U.S. as was expected, it (meaning the follow up album) would probably still sell extremely well compared to most rock album releases these days. I don't think the record company is in any position to say "Pass." when Axl comes to them with the finished next album.

Now, the current standstill may very well come from exactly what kind of release and support the record company is willing to give the next album. I'm sure, ideally, they'd give it a similar marketing treatment that CD got, which isn't much. We've seen how much that upset Axl, and while he could have done more himself to promote it, so could they. My guess is that's what's going to hold the release of the next album, if it is indeed held up. We really have no idea what Axl's up to right now.

  4. I Think 2012. 1/2/3 new songs at rio, with like the initial plan for an xmas release, but, imo it'll be pushed back to 2012.

I wouldnt put it past axl to release it in 2012 because of the 2012 theory!

I don't think DJ was being cute when he said "A Christmas album" when asked if we can expect a GNR album this year. My guess is that the current plan within Guns is to release it late this year. But then again, that was also the plan as of May of 2006, and we know how that ended.

Let's just hope they put concrete release plans put together to make a 2011 release a reality.

  5. CD is the moon, CD II is the sun.

    Nice analogy. :)

But yes, I view CD2 to be just as important as CD because many of the songs were pre-determined for the second album when they were recorded. Also, due to the leaks & songs being played live for years before the release, there were only a handful of songs that were atcually "new" to fans on Chinese Democracy.

The fact that we've heard no music from the second album makes it that much more mysterious and its eventual release that much more of an event for the fans.

  6. I dunno, initially I thought that maybe Axl was waiting for the "Post Chinese Democracy World Tour" to wrap up before he thought about the next album. But then I recalled that initially he wanted to release the next album a year after the first, which was both confirmed in earlier interviews and hinted again with his "Maybe same bat time same bat channel next year" comment in December of 2008. Surely he planned to continue tour on that album as well, and incorporating the songs on the next one.

I wonder what changed, or what changed his mind. Robin leaving? The tour taking over a year to materialize? :shrugs:

At the very least, I hope the fans get an update on what's up with the next album. I think we deserve that much...

  7. The forums were full of "Give it up, the albums never gonna come out!" every year up to when the official press release was was put out in October of 2008. I know things tend to drag ass in the world of GNR, but I don't accept the "It's never gonna come out" line of thinking.

However, if DJ is constructing new songs meant for the next release, we can pretty much kiss 2011 goodbye in regard to hearing any new music from GNR. I know some of you want to hear newly written tracks, but I'd rather have him make his mark on CD Era tracks and have it released "soon", rather than wait possibly years to hear brand new songs written by the current lineup.

  8. We know that Axl has at least two more albums worth of tracks that were recorded between 1999-2007 during the Chinese Democracy sessions, with the initial intent being to release a "trilogy" of albums while the band toured continuously.

Obviously, the original plan hasn't panned out, but we do know that those songs do exist and that DJ is currently working WITH Axl in some form on new material. Whether he's adding guitar work to the albums like Ron did in '06 & '07, or actually writing new songs remains to be seen.

One thing is certain, Guns are now planning to release the next album. The only question now is "When?". I might very well regret being optimistic later, but if DJ is simply making his mark on the tracks and not constructing whole new songs (at least for this album), I see no reason why we won't hear the next album sooner than later.

With that said, does anyone believe we'll see the next album later this year?

EDIT: Ron, DJ, & Dexter...Please feel free to chime in at any time to set the record straight.

  9. I think Dj is just overly hopeful sometimes that things will happen whereas Ron knows that with Axl you can never be sure if plans will follow through.

My thoughts exactly. At the very least, it shows that there are some rumblings of plans going on behind the scenes, which I guess is better than nothing. We'll see. :shrugs:

  10. Some of you are just incredible. 2001-2007 Robin sucked because he wasn't enough like Slash in his style and playing. In 2009-2011 DJ sucks because he's too much like Slash in his style and playing.

    Really?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what DJ adds to these tracks.

  11. Maybe DJ will write a few new song's or solo's for the new album, but they'll keep song's like The General, Atlas Shrugged, Thyme, Silkworm's on the album.

I really hope that's the case. I have no problem with DJ & Axl writing new songs, but it would be a shame to loose songs that have reached an almost mythical reputation among fans, like The General, Atlas, Soul Monster etc.

Also, I really hope DJ was hinting at a near-Christmas release on not just being a smart-ass. :xmasssanta:

  12. So he didn't clarify as to whether he's actually writing songs, or just adding his parts to the rest of the CD Session tracks? The latter makes more sense to me, but at this point, who the fuck knows? :shrugs:

I asked him "are you writing songs WITH Axl Rose?" He said YES. Interpret however you want.

If that's the case, maybe the next album will be a mix of both old and new tracks. Kinda like what the Stones did on the 'Tattoo You' album.

  13. Lol at anyone who thinks DJ is doing anything other than adding guitar work to pre-existing songs.

That's not a bad thing, but some of you who think a secret album's being written right now...C'mon.

Why do you "lol" and roll your eyes about that? Do you have inside information on what is going on with the band or Axl right now? Or are you just speculating - like everybody else is?

You're right, I have no official information. I only have common sense and the knowledge that Axl already has two more albums worth of songs recorded, and a track record of including the current lineup on forthcoming releases. But yes other than that, I have no information that would oppose DJ Ashba writing an entire secret Guns N' Roses album by himself, no.

  14. Does anyone else get the impretion that Axl knows he blew his comeback and has completely given up trying to make Guns N' Roses successful and relevant?

During his 'chats' back in Decemeber 2008, before CD had disappeared completely from the charts and was still (albeit temporarily) doing well, despite the complete lack of promotion, Axl seemed completely psyched about the future, and openly discussed upcoming songs, the Better video, and how other videos were being "written" for other songs.

How brief that positivity was. True, he successfully toured overseas in 2010. But now, in almost mid 2011 every other aspect of GNR seems, I don't know...dead.

There was a time where it really seemed that once CD was released, Axl would give it his all and make sure the fans were rewarded for their years of patience.

Have we reached the end of the line, or at 49 years old, does Axl still have time to redeem himself?

  15. it will be great to hear new music I want to hear the general and soul monster :P

Ditto. Would love to hear the next album. They say Atlas Shrugged sounds like November Rain meets 70s glam rock. Too bad Axl shits on what the fans ''would like''. :shrugs:
