For the love of God, rehearse The General.

So....Are the dates going to be announced only a couple at a time?
I wonder what the marketing logic is behing this, if any...

It doesn't say anything about new song being recorded, rehearsed, or to be played at Rio. But, even though that didn't happen, doesn't mean that GN'R can't play new songs at Rio, especially as he said "Whoa..stay tuned."
Remember a few months ago, when someone from GN'R was posting on the GN'R twitter and responded to a question about playing new songs at Rio, the responce was always prepping for something that we haven't done yet!" i think there some music lying around for that.
Even though this may be just about rehearsals, I still think there's a chance we get atleast one unreleased song at Rio. GN'R the last 2 times have played unreleased material at Rio, and seeing as though it's the biggest concert in the world, and will be streamed live to millions, what better plaace to reveal atleast one new song that Rock N' Rio.
Agreed. Rio's gonna be awesome, whether new songs are played or not. But, for better or for worse, the big question about whether the next album is going to come sooner than later hinges on whether new material is played at Rock In Rio. That much should be obvious.
-
Surely if it was just rehearsal or setlist changes from already released songs then it wouldnt be like "Woah, stay tuned" ? If it was a normal rehearsal he would have said "doing rehearsal with guns for rio" Surely?
Agreed. Tommy's been in the band since 1998. I'm pretty sure he has Pardise City, Jungle and SOD down.

Wouldn't be surprised if get at least on new track played at RIR. Would be a great way for Axl to show the world that the GNR world didn't end with Chinese Democracy and that there is indeed more to come.

This is a quote from Merck's letter to the fans from December 2006. For those who dont know, Merck was Axl's manager through 2006.
"The record company refused to conclude the renegotiation until we were ready to hand over the finished album and refused to prepare a marketing campaign or commission video treatments until they had it in their hands. This is still their position as of this week."
The record company could still very well be refusing to offer Axl a marketing plan for the next album until, again, they have it in their hands. After CD, I'm sure Axl expects a marketing plan first before he agrees to put out another album. Thus, the current standstill...
-
Yeah, I would imagine that after what went down with CD and all the bad blood that followed, that Axl and the label are still at a standstill. Yeah Axl has another album, or however many songs ready to go, but what good does that do when you hate your record company and they probably hate you back?
Wish they could put that aside, and just figure out a fucking way to get the music to the fans.

It's not too hard to understand why we won't be getting new material from the current line-up, follow the money.
Axl has recorded a few albums worth of material that I am sure could be somewhat release ready with a reasonable amount of tweaking if Axl ever decided to get motivated.
Why in God's name would the record company ever agree to give him 1 dime to step back into a studio and start recording when they have sufficient material most likely to release other albums.
The label could give 2 shits who plays on the album as long as Axl is singing, so having him record now is a waste of money on their end.
After the stunt he pulled by disappearing when the album was released, he will be lucky to ever see any advance money of any kind again given his history of failing to complete what he starts more often than not.
Does anyone here really believe that Axl is going to dig into his own pocket and finance what would surely be expensive recording sessions given how he is? Why would he when he has material that is paid for already and just needs to be released.
It sounds great in theory to say the new band should record an album, but someone has to pay for it. Axl's not going to because he knows he would never see it again, and the label's not because they have given Axl all the money they are likely ever going to with the CD fiasco. They have paid for material ready to go, so it would be absurd to turn around and then pay for it a second time when they still can't get the first batch released.
Great post. I agree with literally everything in it.

I would love to know what, if anything, is delaying the release of the next album. Statments from within the band as well as those close to them seem to suggest that it's the label, not Axl, who's responsible for the lack of more new music from GNR.
-
Ticketmaster link shut off...
Weird. I wonder if it was meant to be part of a bigger announcement.
-
It honestly baffles me how some fans would rather the next album be delayed for possibly YEARS more, so that Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba can rework perfectly good songs, that are in the same vein as Chinese Democracy, an album you claim to love.
Like it or not, GNR is the Axl Rose show, and while I can see him adding DJ & Ron's guitar work to the next album, nixing the existing tracks to incorporate the current guitarists more seems...I dunno...insane.
Fortunatly, it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

The first date is up at Ticketmaster!
Re-posted this (crediting you) at GNRevolution just now.
Thank you so much for finding out/sharing!
No problem! Gonna be a fun fall...

Yes, it's the best possible scenerio if GN'R could release a new album, or atleast a few new songs, before a U.S. tour.
Touring behind a three year old album, which half the songs were already played for a decade, is not going to be good for business.
If they were Aerosmith, AC/DC, or the Rolling Stones they could get away with touring the states "just because." But I have to agree, touring the states three years after the release of an unpromoted album is quite a gamble, especially in this economy. And I agree, their best bet is to put out, or at the very least, announce the next album.
Thing is, as of right now it really looks like they're touring just for the sake of touring. Doesn't mean we can't be excited for the shows. I know I am.

that sux.
You do realize that GNR has at least another two albums worth of tracks that can be released whenever Axl & the label come to terms, right?
He said 'no recording', not 'no album'. I'd rather hear that music anyway.
-
It would be very cool if GNR released a new single to support the upcoming tour. Unfortunatly, I really don't see that happening.
-
When you think about it, playing Estranged, TWAT, Silkworms, or any Guns song for that matter next to Axl Rose is probably the single greatest honor that could be bestowed on a formerly C-List musician like Bumblefoot. If he can't handle excited GNR fans wanting to hear the songs they love, then maybe he should've stuck to playing songs like 'Abnormal' in hole in the wall bars in Jersey.
Edit: And say what you will about Bucket never talking, but it's highly ironic that a man who wore a KFC bucket his head could have more dignity than this.
-
It would be cool if certain members of Guns N' Roses were, you know, fans of Guns N' Roses.
-
I'm not sure if he was trying to be funny or what, but honestly, Ron comes off as a colossal douche in that video.
-
Tickets for Miami go onsale Sept. 9...Let's hope we get some other dates announced over the next couple of weeks that'll go onsale around the same time.
-
As far as playing new songs at the upcoming shows goes, wouldn't they have to rehearse them together to pull that off? Any news as far as the band getting together before the shows to do that yet?
-
I agree that this long tour is getting a little ridiculous, and that GnR fans would much rather have a new album than another tour.
Ditto. Of course I'll go see them if they come to Chicago, but I'd much rather hear the second half of the opus. I don't see why the two couldn't go hand in hand, meaning a states tour and new album this fall, but lately Axl can't seem to divide his attention and do both. We saw that he couldn't put out/finish an album while touring in 2006, so I don't see what would change that now.
-
I've often wondered about how the next album will do on a wide-scale basis. Even with Axl's disappearing act, and the lack of support from the label, Chinese Democracy still sold farely well because it was, well, Chinese Democracy, one of the most anticipated rock albums of all time.
Now that people know what NuGNR sounds like and the hype and curiousity has passed, if another release is executed the same way, it could do a lot worse than CD did.
But who knows? Maybe that's why Axl hasn't put out the second album yet, and they're currently crossing all the T's and dotting all the I's, making sure everything is in place marketing-wise this time.
Really, only Axl maybe a few suits at the label knows for sure.

Speaking of Van Halen, rumors are heating up that the VH/GNR tour might actually happen this fall. Wonder if there's any truth to that, or if it was a condition of the Azoff settlement...

I get it. If they were releasing another album or riding off a new single, a GNR U.S. tour would be big news. Touring in support of an album that failed commercially 3 years after the fact, isn't exactly BIG news. Escpecially when you consider that only two dates in Florida have been "officially" announced so far.
That said, I'm still hoping beyond hope that we get word on the next album to coincide with the States Tour, as far-fetched as it may be at this point...
