Seen this one on YouTube a few times today - sounds legit!

Just thought i would go back and quote this. This was a video of Evader's interpretation that has since been removed (seemingly voluntarily, though not discounting the possibility that this video got flagged before that removal). It seems that The General videos have been consistently voluntarily removed and/or forcefully taken down from Soundcloud, YouTube, etc. We did see similar movement prior to Perhaps being released.

how could I possibly know this from a phone recording are you nuts?

Are you sure you didn't just listen to the leaked 2 min phone recording that has been going around for years? That one is hard to make much out of, except for the orchestral arrangement, some screaming and a guitar solo.

should we be watching out for either of these in a few days?

Yes, but after the Perhaps situation, they likely won't update these links until the song is ready or out of the gate, lol. In fact, with Perhaps, their Linkfire link only went live hours before they published the song (not counting the initial URL redirect with the Perhaps countdown).

For the time being, the most plausible explanation is that the new placeholder dates in some European stores are only for those who are ordering now and not for those who have already pre-order, because it's been out of stock.

Someone get the MyGnr CSI team on the case to email a Universal office for clarification.

  5. With the Universal Store email, they are likely only able to confirm or deny products that are actually listed. Since the vinyl is the only product listed with The General on it, of course their answer will be 'vinyl exclusive right now'. They won't be making any announcements before the band does on other releases (be they CD, cassette, digital, etc) because those products don't exist publicly yet and they are not authorised to make those sorts of statements. Even then, customer service would know much less than the actual distribution and promotions team.

Reminder of the recent Richard Fortus interview:

A new song the band has been performing is “Perhaps,” which [Fortus] says has been revisited, reworked and rerecorded over the years since 2002, when he joined Guns N' Roses.

“I’m thrilled with how it came out," he says. "It’s a great song — one of my favorite Guns N’ Roses songs. Lyrically, it’s very mature, and I think it’s some of Axl’s best work."

“The General,” which he calls the B-side to “Perhaps,” also was long in progress and could join the show soon.

Does anybody seriously think that he would refer to the General in that way if it was an instrumental or wasn't re-recorded with Slash and Duff?

Not to mention Slash literally said he and Duff fixed up a few songs and that the upcoming ones were more epic/complex than HS/Absurd. I don't know how anyone can seriously consider The General to be an instrumental or otherwise untouched by Slash and Duff.

I don't know about Italy's consumer laws, but in my country, a deliberate misrepresentation in commerce and advertising like that could breach consumer laws.

    https://iclg.com/practice-areas/consumer-protection-laws-and-regulations/italy

"In addition, and to complement the above provisions, Section 21 et seq. of the Code prohibits so-called “misleading practices”, meaning commercial practices distorting the economic choices of consumers by, for instance, containing false information or omitting relevant information in relation to the existence or nature of the product, or its main characteristics (e.g. its availability, benefits, risks, execution, composition, accessories, aftersales assistance and complaint handling, method and date of manufacture or provision, delivery, fitness for purpose, usage, geographical or commercial origin or the results to be expected from its use, etc.).  See also the answer to question 4.1 below."

I don't work in the legal area, so I don't know if it applies, but if a digital release of The General is planned very soon, misrepresenting its availability by saying it will NEVER be available digitally could be seen as distorting consumers to choose to buy a vinyl record, and possibly a breach of consumer law, if they keep benefiting from it and make no attempt to rectify it.

I just think the Universal team assigned to GNR doesn't have their shit together on messaging. They pushed Perhaps out there with a press release and product description that they had to change after the fact. It wouldn't be surprising if they forgot to get all their international branches in line on the same messaging.

  8. If The General were truly exclusive to physical media, then it would have been stated clearly on the product description of the 7" vinyl across every Universal website + GNR's website and other media retailers. This was the case for the live tracks on the Hard Skool vinyl. That the Italian site is the only one to include the claim of The General's exclusivity means it is out of step with everywhere else.
