Do you think it's easy to make great music? And if they make you an album, because people like you always ask to make an album and this sucks, what will you say about it? When they were at the height of their inspiration they always gave priority to quality and not quantity. What good is an album with a good song or two just to shut the mouth of idiots like you? :fuckyou:

    lol

There’s so much I love about the demo; Freese’s drums pushing the song, the buildup at the beginning, the little guitar lick before the solo, the overall sound of it - it’s exactly what I wanted a CD era rocker to sound like. On the contrary, there’s almost nothing I like about the single version; the ridiculous bell, the drums have no flair to them and are very much on the back beat, I don’t like that the guitar work is more chord based than riff based, the horrible “ay ay”s in the bridge, and the mix. This one is a no brainer to me, the demo is better in every single way.

Exactly the same thoughts I have about the song. Freese's drums alone pack so much energy into the song, that without them, the song falls flat to me. The other additions/production choices range from questionable to awful.

Yeah, god knows we can complain about many things, but I don't think the length of the setlists should be one of them.

I would disagree in a way. And I only say that because I think that, sometimes, less is more. Especially for an aging band. However, I also acknowledge the fact that a longer setlist means you're getting more of the band/songs you love, and so that can't be a bad thing.

So, I think the complaints have merit, but I can also see the other side for those that are attending the shows and loving all 58 songs, or however many songs they're playing now. Personally, I don't really have an issue with the length of the setlist. I just think the covers are a bit overkill at this point. Just slide a few more original songs in there.

  4. Start taking bets on which AC/DC songs they'll cover for the next leg.

But seriously, I love the enthusiasm. I don't have any enthusiasm about GNR anymore, but it's nice to see some people carrying the torch. However, if Axl truly sounds good to some people now, then 2010 must've been equivalent to the Ritz.

  5. Yeah, I don't know why anyone is defending that. It's a sloppy, haphazard attempt at the solo. Slash can play it, or at least come close to it with his own interpretation. He just doesn't care. He's getting his money, so it doesn't matter.

I don't think anyone is asking him to play it exactly like it is on the record. But it sounds like a high school talent show band playing Street of Dreams instead. Imagine Dizzy doing that with the intro. Just noodling all over the place until the guitar riff comes in. "Oh. Shit. It's Street of Dreams, apparently." Wouldn't make much sense.

Because Slash quite recently said they had been working on music and would try to get it released on an album and that is a pretty substantial thing in the world of Guns N' Roses and this is a fan forum?

Another question could be: Why do so many posters here have such an urge to dismiss all signs that indicate more music is in the works and belittle those that are excited about this?

I mean, sure. But you can only discuss Slash's quotes for so long. There's nothing actually tangible to be excited about. We have the possibility of potentially seeing new music someday. An enticing prospect for any other artist. But in GNR terms, we'll be lucky if we're not all dead by then.

No he doesn't lol. Go watch Metallica perform Master of Puppets live in Seattle in 1989... then go watch that group-hug nonsense back to back and tell me James still sounds like James. It's just tragic how far that band has fallen. If James has mental health issues that he can't reel in on stage, he should retire, go deal with them, heal and be happy. This is not Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. This is metal. It's suppose to be done a certain way. And watching a sixty-year-old-man cry it out on stage while his band mates console him is not the right way.

I know that sounds callus and blunt, but it's true. If I want to watch that sort of thing on stage, I'll start liking Harry Styles.

I mean, Hetfield has dealt with his demons. On numerous occasions. There are plenty of singers who have the same attitude you have, and then they crack under the pressure of their own mental health and either kill themselves, or vanish from the public entirely. And not in a good way.

These things don't just go away because they're on a stage.

  8. I'm not sure why anyone is calling Catcher overproduced, when the entire album is overproduced. That can't really be a knock on any of these songs, unless you wanna vote out the entire album at once.

This I Love again. It's cheese, and Axl has written a plethora of better ballads.

  9. Riad is one of those tracks that would've benefitted from beefier production. It sounds too thin. But I'm still going with This I Love for this round.

Still love CD. I agree that Scraped had to go first. But even it looks like Appetite-era material compared to the crap we're getting now (Absurd).

Times change. These days it's pretty common for artists to release most of their music as singles and then compile it into an album: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/why-your-favorite-artist-is-releasing-more-singles-than-ever-629130/

I understand why many people prefer the old skool approach. It makes the album feel more like an event. But these days putting out 12-15 songs at once is increasingly risky because people's attention spans are shorter. The culture has changed in many ways. People don't listen to albums as much as they used to. People listen to singles and if they like the song, they add it to their playlist. Many people feel like they don't have time to go through entire albums and see what songs they like. But everyone has time to listen to one song and see if they like that one. So in many ways it makes more sense to release most of your music as singles these days.

While true, this is just an excuse for the band to use at this point. They can still go in, record an album, put it out, and then people will choose songs to put on their playlists. I'm sure there are thousands of people out there who just have Jungle and SCOM on their playlists, with the rest of Appetite thrown into the heap. Most here would call that blasphemy, but that's just how it goes. So, there's nothing stopping them from making an actual album and releasing it all at once in a playlist age.

Personally, I'd rather have the option to choose from a whole album's worth of tracks. Especially if we're getting songs like Absurd, which is up there with the worst recorded GNR tracks (IMO, of course). Now, I have to wait an indefinite amount of time before getting any singles released again. I'm hoping at least a year from now, we'll have two quality single releases. But that's being optimistic.

What would actually be fun is if GNR released a single every month and then compiled it into an album at the end of the year. If they wanted to do an approach like that, I think that would be fun. Unfortunately, that's not how it works either. We get two songs in one little period of time, with no knowledge of when (or if) we'll hear any other songs again. Even artists who release lots of single songs still have an album announced by that point.

Really sad to see Animal Bar at 26. Would be Top 5 in that list for me.

  12. Skid Row is a joke. The new song should've been released today as an April Fool's joke, because it is truly atrocious. Rock with no balls, from a band who goes through singers like it's a bodily function. To add insult to injury, they settle on a Bach clone to finally show that they can't do anything without vocals like his. Unfortunately, they also can't write songs that are worth a shit.

Terrible band. They had their day and Bach still has the chops and some good solo records under his belt. Skid Row should quit while they're behind.
