It means you and like minded posters , who just take a massive dump on everything, it’s time to move onto foo fighters and dad rock.

or as GnR puts it. Fuck off and buy something from the “old age “ section.

    good riddance

You are aware GNR are an older band than the Foo Fighters by quite a way? And that GNR aren't exactly the cutting edge of new music? I think you may indeed find them in the 'old age' category these days.

Anyway.....welcome to the forum. Great to have you and your well thought out and insightful posting.

It's great to have such youth, vim and vigour here to tell everyone they're old because they don't like a shit music video.

N.B. The sticker on the UYI albums actually said "the new age section". I'm not sure accuracy or correct information is your strong point.

They do the video stuff for the screens at live shows too. Maybe they're a new company and still a bit insecure. No idea

Very insecure by the sounds if it!

It's very GNR though, arguing with people online who don't like something.

Just looks terrible for any business. You won't convince one single person that they like something by arguing with them online!

Maybe a bonus feature on a proper live Blu-Ray....now that's an idea I want them to have and finally birth! Release one or sell the reunion live/docu to Netflix or Disney (they are enjoying streaming gigs of late) and make the fan base happy in the "quiet" transition year...🤞

I lost you at "make the fan base happy"......

    Amazing song and video.

brillaint. The minimalistic beats reminds me of sleaford mods, maybe they are fans.

GnR still doing their own thing, they’ve never made safe music. Fuck the haters, you sound like my parents 30 years ago. Listen to yourselves😊

Does anyone else see a creepy Epstein image at 2:54.?

    Is this a joke post?

Sorry, I can't work it out! I mean obviously none of these things are true....but you did make me chuckle with the Sleaford Mods inspiration bit, given that the song predates their entire existence!

GNR are the very definition of a safe band these days. They're as dangerous as an F'N cup of tea. Fam.

Yes, and it's got millions of different things on it, nobody's going to go out of their way to watch a music video on YouTube. Look at shorts, the go-to form of online video now – you'll see clips from TV shows, live performances, bespoke stuff, but no music videos. The world doesn't care about them. They were invented for a dead medium.

Erm... there's 10 pages of complaints here and stuff all over social media. It's been said. People who want a video generally want more than this. It ain't happening these days.

    Objectively? No. Opinions are subjective...

The video for the current number 1 in the US, Jack Harlow's 'Lovin On Me' currently has 55 million views though.

That's an awful lot of people who have gone out of their way to seek out and watch that video. I'd argue music videos are as big a deal as ever, possibly more so.

I wonder what the band was thinking when they were shown the video by Fernando, or maybe they just dont care?

I doubt the band have much say in it all and Axl has probably just said 'yeah make a video, get on with it, whatever you think best'.

I don't see that too much thought has gone into this at any level whatsoever.

To many people on this forum are still stuck in the past and that's the problem with many who post on this forum.

    It's not the 90s anymore...

Music video directors don't exist anymore nor do record labels have the money to invest in a product that doesn't give them a financial return.

The band have released a music video that fits in with the current state of today's music industry, including the cost factor and holding the copyrights to their own  content.

Some of you seem to think this music video was released to make some money.

The music industry doesn't make any money anymore, hence a less cost effective alternative..

Thats why many artists today, release animation/lyric/live footage based music videos, or are remastering previously released albums.

That's it then. Music industry- your time is up.

Someone call Taylor Swift and let her know. Quickly please as she's releasing albums and touring and needs warning.

I freely admit I was being negative without seeing the finished video, but I wouldn’t call it whiny. I just really don’t like the way they promote something seemingly low-effort as “special.” Are they tone deaf to the hardcore fan base?

Ultimately, “The General” was indeed released as a B side, so it’s dope it’s actually even getting a video. And it’s cool GNR is doing something in an “off” year. Hopefully this means we don’t have to wait for another tour to get a new song.

We're an annoyance to them, if anything.

They want people who will go to a gig, as part of their one or two shows a year nostalgia hit, pay a vast amount to do so, buy a load of low quality merchandise and fuck off until the next time they roll round.

Anything else rocks the boat too much.

They'd rather we disappeared I think.

    Just throwing this our there:

If the trilogy videos had not been pompous, overblown, ridiculous things that weren't even intentionally parodic, the band would have more cred today. Not that I care about the band's standing in the history of music, I'd be perfectly happy if I was the only one liking their music, but many here seem to do. People hate the band, partly or wholly, because of these videos and it prevents these same people from listening to the music and discovering the greatness in the music. It's definitely a double-edged sword.

That's a really valid point actually.

Personally, I like the videos, but I have so many music loving friends that laugh at them and point to them as a m example of how naff and uncool GNR were.

I remember people at the time laughing at them at school, in an era where Nirvana and the like were making videos seen as 'cool'.

I mean, fuck it to a certain degree- they're iconic, they represent the way the band was, they don't impact on the songs themselves, all that stuff.....but their impact wasn't as positive as some make out and it's a very salient point that they did have a negative impact on how GNR were perceived by some people.

Cut to 2024, and a shit AI video for a B-Side (assuming it is shit of course)  isn't really going to have any impact whatsoever on anything other than people on forums laughing a bit at how shit it is.

Well I don't have an issue with a music video being released a long time after the song. Estranged music video was released more than two years after UYI's. But that video was a multi million dollar cinematic production, not a lazy effort. It had elevated the song for fans much higher than perceived initially in 91 and added to its greatness.

Even I kind of like the General as a song. It has grown well on me personally. And I really don't want a lame music video to ruin my imagination about it.

Playing devil's advocate here......we don't know the video will be lame. It could be an incredible work of art that blows us all away?

Haha, who am I kidding?! I tried!
