I can't speak for others, but the reason I'm concerned it's State of Grace is cause GNR haven't released anything that we haven't heard leaked since Sorry, TIL, and Scraped.  In 2008.

Also, Baz's descriptions are notoriously vague and shitty, but the way he described The General could also apply to SOG.

Considering how often the working titles changed, it's not unreasonable to theorize that the song that was originally known as State of Grace in 1999 could eventually evolve into what Baz heard as The General in 2006.

It will be a massive disappointment if it’s just a redone SOG. It’s been so long since we have heard anything fresh

  2. I know to some this can feel like “the end of an era” but the reality is if the General is the last release this year we have only gotten about 1/3 of CD2.

    1. ABSURD

    2. HARD SKOOL

    3. PERHAPS

    4. THE GENERAL

    5. atlas shrugged

    6. state of grace

    7. seven

    8. oklahoma

    9. cuban skies

    10. quick song

    11. soul monster

    12. zodiac

That is A LOT of meat still on the CD2 bone. And this is just the other shit we assume has vocals. There may be a few more we don’t know about.

At least they HAVE an album to argue over.....oh I'd sell my kidney to just be in that position.....

I love when there is so little GNR news to argue about that mid thread arguments about other bands break out that go for 3-4 pages. I can guarantee no one is arguing about GNR on the Stones forum lol

You guys, I'm back to being bored again. I loved everything about the "Perhaps" release and I'm happy "The General" is coming. The set lists on the current leg of the never-ending tour have been fun. But are we ever gonna hear news of an actual record? They're about to end the tour and go on hiatus again while Slash and I assume Duff tour their other projects.

"The General" will bring back some excitement for sure. That can get me through the end of the year. lol

To answer your question the answer is no we will never get any news on an actual record. Axl has an entire second record called CD2, Stay of Execution, Red Panda or whatever. But for some reason even though it’s been 7 years including all of 2020 and most of 2021 when nothing was happening, they only re-worked 4-6 songs.

Im just so glad we are getting the general. Otherwise this year would be another massive disappointment.

What if Guns only re-works songs that have leaked in full?

So far, this has been the case with Absurd, Hard Skool, and Perhaps. They have Slash re-record superior leads as punishment to the fans, so we never get to hear the best versions of these songs.

The General, Cuban Skies, Soul Monster, Seven, Oklahoma, etc. have not leaked. So maybe they will keep the CD-era mixes of them.

Bet your ass, Atlas has been re-recorded since it has leaked in full. Damn it, the Bumblefoot OMG too leaked years ago, looks like we're getting Slash on that as well. :(

It will be a miracle if we ever get Cuban Skies, Soul Monster, Seven, Oklahoma, ect…

I still can’t believe we are actually getting the General

After a bunch of us waited a while for the lithos to come out, it turned out they had 30 in the box for the outside merch tent. First guy in line bought 10, next guy bought 5, a couple bought two a piece. After I bought my solo litho, they limited it to one a piece.

They should limit it to one a person

I agree, we have had CD since 2008, and have yet to have any earlier versions of Shackler's Revenge, Scraped, This I Love, and Sorry leak (not counting Village instrumentals).

My hope is any active folks with uncirculated CD era mixes of unreleased songs are waiting to share/sell/trade/leak until official versions our out, to minimize legal attention/harming the band if they leak.

But I do know with 100% certainly there's material out there that has not leaked, that is outside of the band and their associates. So we are likely to hear more, eventually. I've never heard of anyone having The General though. Only Leave Me Alone/Soul Monster, Seven, alts of OMG and Silkworms, and maybe a few others I can't recall.

It’s crazy that the rest of these tracks have never leaked. They have to have been in private circulation for years now. I have no idea how other hard core fan bases operate (because I’m only a hardcore GNR fan) but I cannot imagine people not wanting to share music with other fans. I know in the past these unreleased songs brought a lot of unwanted attention and legal issues for some people but at this point I doubt any leak would get any media attention and really only about a thousand people would even care.

Of course this happens right after I leave Vegas 😂

It is still odd they are holding off on additional physical releases for the Perhaps and The General outside of vinyl… something is a brewing.

The only thing that makes me think more could potentially be coming is Axl and Slash visiting that studio in June to listen to “mixes”. Now that could have been just Perhaps and the General. But it seemed like the studio technicians implied it was more.

Most attendees are die hards, which is opposite for GNR. PJ has maybe 3-4 recognizable songs to the average person who wasn't around in the 90s.

All I could think is that I wish I could go to a GNR show that was like this. I think if they gathered all the die hards from around the world and put all of us in an arena and let us pick the set list we could pull it off

  11. Is the song this week? Are people calling the Juke Box companies, Radio stations, train stations, bus stations, the airlines, studios, speaker manufacturers, record stores, (there have to be at least 5 left), Geffen Records, interscope records, and the personal line of Jimmy Iovine?! Cmon we must know when the General is going to drop!

The problem is the band has released so little in the past 30 years it has whittled the psycho fan base down to almost nothing. I went to a Pearl Jam concert last week. Now that band has a psycho fan base. They had an entire arena singing along to deep cuts.

I bought that VIP package for the first show in Vegas, because it was the only option for pit by the time I was able to buy tickets. The mini litho is kind of cool, and they also sent a duffle bag, a hat, a pack of cards and maybe 1-2 other trinkets that I've never used. Totally not worth the extra $300~ I paid for the tickets, but I wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to be in the pit at that show lol.

I bought it because I wanted floor seats. The only halfway decent thing was the litho. The dob kit, hat, duffel, ect…. was some of the cheapest chinese made shit ever!

  13. This band really has some of the worst merchandising of all time. Everything is so incredibly overpriced and low quality. I bought a vip ticket for the second Vegas show in 2016. It came with a limited edition litho which was decent but not great and a bunch of the cheapest made merch you could ever imagine.

Hard Skool should not be on that album. It already got its own EP and is an extremely average GNR song. It’s going to be so jarring listening to those other iconic tracks and suddenly hard Skool starts with its incredibly cheesy school bell.

That’s definitely the most complete version. I do believe this song is an epic. At worst I would imagine it’s as good as Madagascar and Madagascar is really good. It seems like a lot of thought and work went into that orchestration. Can this just leak already?!

Yea...but to be fair, Vinyl the big comeback is not just a fad anymore...it's been consistently rising....the only physical media that is on the up....last year was the first year since 1987 that Vinyl outsold CD! I love my Vinyl but it's probably holding back super deluxe sets these days, as it's expensive and the companies insist on matching content!

Dude it’s still super niche. The VAST majority of people have absolutely no interest in physical media
