Less than T- 50 days 😯
Let’s hope they are not stupid and this thing hits streaming well before the vinyl release

IRS. But I don’t think Axl could do this song live anymore.

In that article that just came out. He said that it may be making an appearance in the set list soon.

Wasn’t it like 2 days beforehand though? All I was saying is that if they are going to play it they are going to stream it.

Richard said they are looking to add the General to the set list. I cannot imagine that happening if it’s not coming out on streaming first.

I agree too much production. But I doubt anyone is actually hoarding demo mixes of "The General". If someone DID have the demo of "The General" wouldn't it already have leaked by now? Like how hard can it be to leak it...
Someone has it. Everything was still done on CD in the early 2000s. So someone somewhere has it and probably more
The NIN guy on @Gambit83 podcast said he had all of the demos from Chinese 20 years ago.

True...hybrid would be a good compromise for Ax! They should discuss - Ok man, we take 6 other previously finished vocals🎤 and Perhaps went down well, so we'll work this up too....(if not already done) and then Ax, all we need is 5 or so new songs with me and Duff....D will take one for the team too, with So Fine 2!
I mean he's just put down new vocals on another album, it's the kinda not ideal but if we want an LP, it may just happen a bit like this....
As long as it's decent and mixed well, I think that would be about as much as we can hope for! Better than nothing....eh
If all the tracks from the CD2 vault are not released this year this would be the most logical way forward. Even 6 CD2 tracks and 4 all new tracks could be doable. Axl could probably bang out vocals for 4 new tracks in a week.

I’ve been thinking about how many of us are regarding the release of The General with the same level of excitement that fans of other bands have for full a length LP release. They really don’t deserve us. 😆
Agreed. I know much of this fan base is insane but the hardcore GNR fan base is also extremely loyal. So many fans have stayed the course through the painfully long wait for CD and the baffling wait for this pez dispensed version of CD2.

They really do need to put the Chinese Era to bed once and for all. It will be a shame if songs like 7, Soul Monster, Cuban Skies ect….never see the light of day.
But really they need to comeback with a new album and a fully branded tour like Metallica if they want to continue doing stadiums for the long haul.

You got to see the holy grail of concerts where all we got are cool pictures, the last performance of Oh My God, and the last performance of Silkworms for almost 20 years until it became Absurd in summer 2021.
I did. It was my first GNR concert. I had been a fan since the late 80s but was way too young to see them in the early 90s. When they hit the stage and ripped into Jungle it was in the top 5 of the most excited I have ever been in my life.

I think that was night 2. I was at night one. But it was so long ago I can’t say for sure.

I was at The Joint in 01 with the original Nu-GNR lineup. That was a pretty wild moment. They still had the same stage setup as HOB 2001 and Rio 2001. The whole thing was really surreal and cool in a weird way. I actually would have seen every version of Nu-GNR had they not cancelled the second half of the 2002 tour. Really the best moment of the era wasn’t a moment. It was that Axl was in the tail end of his prime and could still really sing almost like he could in the late 80s early 90s.

Axl was singing in 2009 like he was trying to get out some serious anger. Or maybe he was just angry at having to tour Asia to pay Irving Azoff. Or maybe someone got his order wrong in a restaurant.

I know, I expressed myself wrongly. I meant that it was essentially the same song, but rereleased with a newer mix and arguably new overdubs/recordings. The reason why you think it sounds fresh IMO is because of the mix, which is fine by me, but it sticks out when played with the rest of AFD (and it's louder too, IIRC).
Navarro plays from 2:23 to 2:53, but from 2:46 to 2:53 there's Paul Tobias playing lead along with him.
IMO, Robin is credited because of the wah rhythm guitar in the chorus and maybe the intro (the acoustic guitar and the high notes on electric guitar). Tobias plays the rhythm guitar throughout the whole song, including the clean guitar arpeggio during the section C ("oh, if it opens your eyes..."). Not sure about Gary Sunshine, but maybe he's the main heavy guitar for the verses or just doubled Tobias parts.
Robin's parts is what I play in the intro here. And I play only Navarro's solo, not the Tobias part:
Hey man that was really cool. Thanks for sharing

I think the writer was just looking for any GN'R ballad to make the comparison and November Rain was, like, right there. lol It would absolutely be better to compare Atlas to Yesterdays, though.
Agreed Yesterdays is a bit more in the ball park although perhaps is definitely more yesterdays. I would have said think the who and Led Zeppelin crossed with third eye blind with a Brian May guitar solo
-
Unless they have changed it dramatically Atlas should not be described as between November Rain and Glam Rock. I can kinda see the Glam Rock but even that’s a stretch. The other songs were absolutely described accurately. I wonder why the writer had such a hard time describing Atlas. The first minute is kinda like the who and zeppelin and then it just kinda turns into a genre late 90s rock song with a really good Brian May solo.

You made me realize something just now, and I know this might be far out, but..is it really a coincidence that it releases so close to Halloween, and not even "release", it only starts the SHIPPING on the 27th. Until it arrives it might take a few days, and it might not even come out on streaming on that date, who knows when they'll put it up, I sure wouldn't say it's safe that it'll be instantly available on Youtube etc.
To get to the point, maybe it is intended for people to hear The General on Halloween? Put it up on the 31st on Spotify, release a Youtube lyric video, and all that.
..or am I venturing too far into conspiracy land here? lol
Yes you are venturing too far into conspiracy land. It will be out on streaming well before the physical release. People need to hear what they are purchasing. It’s not 1991 anymore

Is this really anything more than a novelty? I would not pay anything for this. I think Robin and Bucket are great guitarists but they looked like freaks in 2002

Rick claims to have that song with vocals. I don't believe him, because if he did, he would have leaked it by now.
Maybe not. Although that dude obviously loves attention, maybe he just doesn’t want any legal action taken against him.

Maybe. Beltrami is on it and he apparently worked on songs in 2002, but the ones he specifically mentioned working on that year were the ones which didn't make the album, so maybe the ones on the album were worked on at a different point? But the lack of Paul Tobias as well makes me think the version on the album was produced after Bucket left.
If I recall correctly the songs on CD with strings were arranged by a guy name Paul Buckmaster. I don’t think Beltrami worked on anything that made CD

Why? Oh My God was clearly intended for another release. It wasn't worked on additionally in the mid-late 2000s for fun.
Why this song was ever worked on again is beyond comprehension. It was mixed, mastered, released, and put on a movie soundtrack. This would be like Metallica continuing to work on I disappear and then internet trolls claiming it was going to open their next album. And that demo of the reworked OMG is awful. They took a song that was not great to begin with that everyone hated when it was released and made it even worse.

It sucks that we had to hear anything in demo form. But what was the alternative? Not listen to anything. It’s been 1 studio album and 3 (almost 4 singles) in the last 32 years
"The General" is officially delayed... but "The General" AND "Monsters" is (unofficially) out of the bag

They should really drop it on the 22nd or 29th. More buzz. More media articles. Potentially more ticket sales. It’s 2023. Everything is all about streaming. Vinyl is a really a niche hobby. I absolutely love music and do not own a record player like most everyone else.
