  1. People hearing "Perhaps" for the first time won't know or care. Only a handful of hardcore GN'R fans would bring it up.
  2. Just got back. Some random thoughts: The stage show looked trimmed down. Back to basics, no pyro, lights, etc. The band was very tight. Axl looked like he was having a great time. The rain kind of sucked, but it did give a good vibe. The Pretenders were awesome. One of the best opening bands I've ever seen.
  3. Could GN'R be nominated for a Grammy for "Perhaps"? How about playing the song on a late-night show? Or The Morning Show? Wolfgang VH does.
  4. I like "Perhaps" the best of the three new songs. "Hardskool" was great. If people didn't know it was an old song redone there would be far less complaining. Always liked "Silkworms/Aburd." Very off-beat and punkish.
  5. I have been lurking other boards. Posters on Steve Hoffman have been generally positive. Metal Sludge leans more negative--but that's the nature of that board. Any other sense of how the song is being received? I think it's great.
  6. Any word on if "Perhaps/The General" will be available on a CD, or just vinyl?
  7. I really liked "Atlas Shrugged," has a real Zeppelin vibe, IMHO. It needs some work, but it's a good song.
  8. Slash's 2010 album is the best thing that he did outside of GN'R. I'd love a sequel.
  9. I like Myles. He's no Axl, but he's a very good singer, albeit sometimes he seems kind of like a generic, workingman singer. Check out some of his solo work, like Year of the Tiger. He does have talent as a songwriter.
  10. It's a good song and the movie looks cool. It's not a kid's movie. It's a deconstruction/homage/parody.
  11. The last RHCP I really liked. The two albums from last year were very meh. They won't leave their comfort zone.
  12. I really liked "Hardskool." I think it would have sounded better if the band re-recorded it from scratch, but whatever. Never got the hate some people have for it. I love "Absurd" but get why others wouldn't. GN'R needs to do with what VH did with A Different Kind of Truth. Go into the studio with some new ideas, some old songs that were never released, and have a competent producer guide the band through.
  13. I thought Libertad was great, never understood why it was considered a letdown. Contraband has the stronger singles, but I think Libertad was a more enjoyable listen, front-to-back.
  14. I have a different take. I think that rock's golden age was (roughly) 1967 to 1997. From Hendrix to the Pumpkins. What great rock bands have formed since 2000, on the level of Zeppelin? I'm not seeing or hearing it. It's more than getting old and being out of touch.
  15. 72 Season was released on April 14 and it's out of the Billboard 200. It wasn't a blockbuster album.
  16. Their fanbase bought the album in the first few weeks, and then it disappeared. If domestic sales are at 300k at the end of the year, the 146k after the first week looks a lot less impressive. It says nothing about the quality of the album. My point is that there is not a lot of interest in new rock releases by established acts. There is not a lot of interest in new albums from new rock bands either. It's all about Taylor Swift, country, and rap. The fact that The Black Album is in the top 200 and their latest, which came out about six weeks ago isn't, tell me that the general public doesn't care about their new album.
  17. If you sell 12 copies of an album it will make the top 200, since no one buys albums anymore. The Billboard 200 is sad--27 Taylor Swift albums, Rumors by Fleetwood Mac in the top 30 for some reason, generic pop, country, rap, and GHs from legacy acts. Rock is dead.
  18. And then it sank like a stone. It's not even in the Billboard 200 (Black Album is #182)
  19. Fun fact: New Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins albums flopped. If there was a new GN'R, I think there might be some interest, at least for the first "reunion" album.
  20. No one. The golden age of rock lasted from approx 1967-1997. It was a good 30-year run.
