Chris Axl
This Iron Maiden song is fucking brilliant!Love how they write from a normal soldiers perspective not some fantasy war machine like Rambo or Arnold in Commandos.Iron Maiden is, IMO, the most genius band in the world after Guns N' Roses. All their lyrics are so fucking deep.In the gloom the gathering storm abatesIn the ships gimlet eyes awaitThe call to arms to hammer all the gatesTo blow them wide throw evil to its fateAll summers long the drill to build the machineTo turn men from flesh and blood to steelFrom paper soldiers to bodies on the beachFrom summer sands to armageddon's reachOverlord, your master not your godThe enemy coast dawning grey with scudThese wretched souls puking, shaking fearTo take a bullet for those who sent them hereThe world's alight, the cliffs erupt in flameNo escape, remorseless shrapnel rainsDrowning men no chance for a warriors fateA choking death, enter hell's gatesSliding we go, only fear on our sideTo the edge of the wireAnd we rush with the tideAll the water is redWith the blood of the deadAlthough I'm still alive, pray to God I surviveHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughThe rising dead, faces bloated tornThey are relieved, the living wait their turnYour number's up, the bullet's got your nameYou still go on, to hell and back againValhalla waits, valkyries rise and fallThe warrior tombs lie open for us allA ghostly hand reaches through the veilBlood and sand, we will prevailSliding we go, only fear on our sideTo the edge of the wireAnd we rush with the tideOh the water is redWith the blood of the deadBut I'm still alive, pray to God I surviveHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it throughHow long on this longest day'Til we finally make it through
kevdo242
Haven't given that song a listen since I last heard it live last December. I always prefered Greater Good of God on that album.Paschendale's great aswell, for soldier's perspective on the battle for Paschendale. I wasn't too acquainted with AMOLAD at the time. It was still a brilliant show, but i enjoyed them ten times as much at Doningotn.

If you're going next year (I definitely am, it was the best weekend of the year) then we should meet up for a band we both like or something. Zeppelin
How Maiden can cork out an album like this after all these years is incredible. However, I'm hoping that Bruce will focus on another solo album once Maiden's done touring in 2008. After they're done with the Soemwhere Back In Time tour it will be a quick break before a new (final?) album is written in the winter

A lot of people take it that when Steve said his goal was to make 15 alubms, that's all he would make.

UseYourAppetite
I think they've got another two in them at least, maybe even a third. I could see Maiden playing at Wembley sometime in the near future, now THAT would be a dream come true
