The Longest Day

This Iron Maiden song is fucking brilliant!

Love how they write from a normal soldiers perspective not some fantasy war machine like Rambo or Arnold in Commandos.

Iron Maiden is, IMO, the most genius band in the world after Guns N' Roses. All their lyrics are so fucking deep.

In the gloom the gathering storm abates

In the ships gimlet eyes await

The call to arms to hammer all the gates

To blow them wide throw evil to its fate

All summers long the drill to build the machine

To turn men from flesh and blood to steel

From paper soldiers to bodies on the beach

From summer sands to armageddon's reach

Overlord, your master not your god

The enemy coast dawning grey with scud

These wretched souls puking, shaking fear

To take a bullet for those who sent them here

The world's alight, the cliffs erupt in flame

No escape, remorseless shrapnel rains

Drowning men no chance for a warriors fate

A choking death, enter hell's gates

Sliding we go, only fear on our side

To the edge of the wire

And we rush with the tide

All the water is red

With the blood of the dead

Although I'm still alive, pray to God I survive

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

The rising dead, faces bloated torn

They are relieved, the living wait their turn

Your number's up, the bullet's got your name

You still go on, to hell and back again

Valhalla waits, valkyries rise and fall

The warrior tombs lie open for us all

A ghostly hand reaches through the veil

Blood and sand, we will prevail

Sliding we go, only fear on our side

To the edge of the wire

And we rush with the tide

Oh the water is red

With the blood of the dead

But I'm still alive, pray to God I survive

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

How long on this longest day

'Til we finally make it through

No, you got me all wrong :P Your statement was on the par with your hairmetal love statements and the Tokio Hotels singer is the greatest lyricists ever, I don't know if you do it on purpose or not, but it always causes a lot of discussion..

Haven't given that song a listen since I last heard it live last December. I always prefered Greater Good of God on that album.

Paschendale's great aswell, for soldier's perspective on the battle for Paschendale.

They play that one at Glasgow? I wasn't too acquainted with AMOLAD at the time. It was still a brilliant show, but i enjoyed them ten times as much at Doningotn.

In Dance Of Death tour, they played Paschendale.

In the last Glasgow gig, they played the entire AMOLAD album including Longest Day.

And I loved them at Download aswell, it was as if the entire metal fanbase in UK came together for a great gig. And they played Children of the Damned

I was still psyched that they played my three favourite songs back to back, NOTB, FOTD and RTTH.

Didn't know you were at Download man. If you're going next year (I definitely am, it was the best weekend of the year) then we should meet up for a band we both like or something.

How Maiden can cork out an album like this after all these years is incredible.

However, I'm hoping that Bruce will focus on another solo album once Maiden's done touring in 2008.

Nope, we were promised a new Bruce solo album by the end of 2008 along with his Alestair Crowley movie but niether will happen apparently. After they're done with the Soemwhere Back In Time tour it will be a quick break before a new (final?) album is written in the winter

Well, I guess I can survive with a new Maiden album haha. I heard they'd do one more at least. They better go out huge.

I personally don't think it will be their last album, I would guess at least one more after the next one. A lot of people take it that when Steve said his goal was to make 15 alubms, that's all he would make.
