Killers - Day & Age

Dead Flower

Recommended Posts

After listening to it for a couple of weeks...

The album is great. Much better than Hot Fuss but not as good as Sam's Town. Most of the songs are great. I usually skip I Can't Stay and This Is Your Life, those are the weakest ones in my opinion. The World We Live In is also kinda shitty, nice chorus but the style sucks. And you've got to be in the mood to listen to Goodnight, Travel Well, great, great song, but it isn't uplifting like the rest of the album.

The first half is so much better than the second one. Up to A Dustland Fairytale, all those songs absolutely rock!

EDIT: Counting ADF, it rocks too

All the music critics that slammed Sam's Town can go fuck themselves. Brandon said it would be one of the best rock albums of the last 20 years and they sure as fuck delivered on that promise. Read My Mind and When You Were Young are timeless song that I'll be listening to for the rest of my life. Bling, Sam's Town, This River Is Wild, Bones, etc are all awesome.

I hope they have the guts to make another album like Sam's Town, and give the critics the middle finger while doing it.

That said, after three weeks with Day & Age I can safely say it's my favorite album of the year. Brilliantly crafted pop rock. Losing Touch and Human just do my head in with how good they are.

Btw, how good are the bonus tracks? A Crippling Blow and Forget About What I Said are both so great. Same with Sam's Town - All The Pretty Faces (one of their very best songs, imo) and Where The White Boys Dance are class.

I may have to give their music another look, but truth be told I don't really dig any of their singles. They have their moments but not enough to really pull me in.

Sound similar? Not taking any shots here (I don't care one way or the other), but I just read about it and wondered if you guys think there's anything to this.

It's a simple melody, easy coincidence

PS Joy Ride owns your face

After listening to Where The White Boys Dance quite a bit, I find myself questioning Brandon's sexuality yet again.

Take me to the place where the white boys dance.

Take me to the place where they run and play.

My baby is gone, you might have a chance.

Just take me to the place where the white boys dance.

They hug in silence,

As the sun sets.

On their empty street,

Their suspicions where they rise and hide.

And then who sweeps them off she doesn't leave.

She walks inside him,

pours a strong one.

Put her mind at ease.

It's the calm before another storm.

And the friendship’s from the whiskey to the keys.

Take me to the place where the white boys dance.

Take me to the place where they run and play.

My baby is gone, you might have a chance.

Just take me to the place where the white boys... dance.

Her heart is racing.

She phones a friend to say:

I'm in an awful place.

That fool’s been messin' round on me

I've seen it in his eyes and on his face

Hold on a minute.

You're talking crazy.

Don't be that jealous girl.

Just telephone you need an hour or two.

Cause we're gonna go and change somebodies word.

Take me to the place where the white boys dance.

Take me to the place where they run and play.

My baby is gone, you might have a chance.

Killer bassline. Brandon's falsetto is just daaaaarling *cocks wrist*.

"Where the white boys dance" is about a gay bar they used to play at when they first started out

Interesting album. Very different from Sam's Town. The music is much more sparse, with less roaring guitars and more focus on Brandon's voice and Ronnie's drumming. If you weren't a fan of Human, then I doubt the rest of the album will win you over.

First run through the album left me a little underwhelmed, but by the second listen the melodies were already starting to catch on, and each song started to develop it's own identity.

Losing Touch is a great opener and a showcase of Flowers beautiful voice and melodies. You'll be singing along to lines like "how you got lost, but you made your way back home" in no time.

You'll either love Joy Ride or hate it. Wildly Flamboyant with a great dance beat. I can imagine Flowers shaking some maracas and wiggling his hips when he performs this one. Cool lyrics. "Lipstick on the nightstand, and demons at the door".

A Dustland Fairytale almost sounds like a sequel to When You Were Young lyrically. Starts with Brandon crooning over delicate piano, before increasing in tempo. Has that dark romanticism that Flowers is so good at crafting.

This Is Your Life has a worse vocal intro than Scraped from CD. Not a big fan of this one yet.

Neon Tiger is great. The World We Live In and Goodnight, Travel Well are rather dramatic and dark.

I get the feeling Goodnight, Travel Well will grow to be a favourite.

Top five atm:

Human

Losing Touch

Neon Tiger

A Dustland Fairytale

Joy Ride

Oddly enough, I agree with everything you say.

Losing Touch is a total tune!

''I ain't in no hurry, you go run and tell your friends I'm losing touch.''

Tune.

The proposal was put forth that Human was either about humans being androids if the video was set in a robot operating room. Or if set in a desert it's about the aliens coming to tell us that we are robots.

We are robots with awesome jackets.

Are we denser or dancer?

Robots are denser than human dancers.

It's 'Dancer'. Brandon is making reference to something Hunter S. Thompson said. He was concerned that America was raising a generation of dancers. In the lyrics, he is merely categorizing. Are we 'human' or are we 'dancer'. If you can think of them in a singular context.
