Randy Lahey
My favorites are Bonham, Moon, Mitchell, Baker, Ward, and Watts.
stacks on deck
Bonhams better than Moon. And Baker.Stacks thinks that Omar Rodriguez Lopez is the best drummer of all time. Even though he isn't a drummer -- but just because he's "experimental." If Bonham had rolled out a drum set with, like, ironic Barbie stickers on the front, and had played in a mock marching band parade with the Residents and Captain Beefheart, all while playing a flute with his asshole, he'd think he was top five of all-time. But because he played straight rock n' roll, stacks hates him. Weak.that would at least be interesting. people like neil pert and john bonham usually show up on top of people's lists of greatest drummers of all-time, and i get the feeling people say this only because they've heard others do so, instead of actually listening to a large body of other works and making the decision for themselves. because if they did that, there'd likely be other names mentioned. a lot of people are just stuck in classic rock and are completely unaware of the superior musicianship found in other genres. class rock really is one of the worst and most boring genres there is. it was cool when you were twelve and wanted to grow your hair out and wear black t-shirts everywhere, but once you move past that idiom, you wonder how anybody could ever listen to that shit. It certainly shouldn't be as white wash as your saying but i can sure agree with the idea that experimental music, despite leaving a foul taste in some peoples mouth for whatever reason, when done properly, does more for an instrument and the art of the instrument than any number of people who excel within previously defined boundaries of musicianmanship. kevdo242
I'm just going to come out and say it. Ben Johnston is either as good as or better than Bonham. For several moments:1. The timing on Living is a Problem and the Buddy Holly cover.2. The hi-hat rhythms in the verses and choruses of Glitter and Trauma3. The ride/snare hits on the original version of Love Has A Diameter4. The beat to A Day Of..5. The intro to The Weapons Are Concealed6. The fact that he does it all while maintaining fantastic vocal harmonieshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdcQaaXZIsU

dalsh327
Different styles of drumming. Moon was fast as hell on drums, Bonham was powerful as hell. The Who vs Zep in the 70s will be debated for years. Bonhams better than Moon. And Baker.
