Best & Worst 2nd Albums

Best.. The Midnight Organ Fight - Frightened Rabbit.

Worst.. Empire - Kasabian is what I'll say before I give it some thought. It's not a bad album, it's got some classic tunes (empire, stuntman, the doberman), but in comparison to the debut and west ryder it's nothing.

Best:

Raconteurs- Consolers of the Lonely

Nirvana- Nevermind (Though everything they've done is great)

Radiohead- The Bends

Daft Punk- Discovery

Eminem- Marshal Mathers LP

Worst:

Chris Cornell- Scream

The Beatles- With The Beatles (Not a terrible album but certainly far from there best. Might not even be there worst but still for the Beatles it's not good)

Best:

Nevermind

White Light/White Heat (not better than the debut, but still flawless and a very worthy sophomore effort)

Strange Days

Marshal Mathers LP

Dirt

Paranoid

Loveless (I think it's about even with the debut)

Doolittle (same as above)

Metal Box

The Low End Theory

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

Worst:

Demon Days- Gorillaz

Imagine

...But the Little Girls Understand- The Knack

It Was Written- Nas

Adventure- Television

This thread has made me realise how absolutely polarising second albums can be.

Pink Floyd - Saucerful Of Secrets

PLEASE DON'T HURT ME! I'm actually a huge Floyd fan, but for some reason this is their only album I never really managed to get into as a whole.

I actually hear this one quite a bit and have never understood why

First off, you have a fantastic opener and an even better closer. Then you have some of Wright's best work (Remember a Day) plus Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun. All classic Floyd.

Sure the title track is a bit on the weird (and long) side, but aside from that...there's not much to complain about.

I enjoy this abum, but I definately would not call it great. Also this album is not even relevant in my opinion because Piper at the Gates of Dawn is not exactly stellar either. It's ok, just not great.

Best: Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

Worst: The Stone Roses - Second Coming

Fucking heresy!!!!!! Second Coming is an amazing album! Granted it's fuck all like their first album but there're some amazing tracks on there!

Yeah, I actually like Second Coming, too. Ten Story Love Song and Tears are almost as good as the best songs on the debut, but, as you said, compared to the first record (which is definitely one of the best albums ever recordered) it's just weak and disappointing.

Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit - Been Listening

This guy makes me feel like there is hope for modern folk music.

I found Been Listening to be quite disappointing actually. Don't get me wrong, it's good but it's not nearly as good as A Larum or what I had hoped for. Laura Marling's I Speak Because I Can was a lot better.

concerning pre-Rubber Soul Beatles: A Hard Day's Night is my favourite Beatles album overall, but With The Beatles is underrated, but definitely not the best pre-Rubber Soul album. Still a 8/10 record at worst.
