Slash left in 96. CD was released, possibly begrudgingly, in 2008. Axl hasn't been about the music for a while.

What about the new songs he played in 2001 and 2006?

I'll give you that there may have been 15 minutes in 2001 when Axl, maybe, wanted it to be about the music - WE'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR WITH MORE NEW SONGS!!! AXL NEVER LIES!!! HE"S SO HONEST!!! - but it didn't last. He was in good shape in 2006, but let's not kid ourselves, that tour was nostalgia driven as fuck. 99% of NuGNR has been sucking off the old band's teat.

So you agree that Axl DID give us new songs in 2001, 2006, and 2008. Would we like more? Absolutely. But to say that he's not about the music is a plain false a statement. Edited by Coma16

Go fuck yourself with your "cupcake statement" bullshit. Take that to fatboy's place.

I really should have known not to try to have a real discussion.

I've edited my post to appease you. No point in reporting you for obvious reasons... Have a nice day :)

Axl is so about the music that his last album, which was released after a 15 years hiatus, is almost 6 years old. Is he about the music? Absolutely. But to say he's about the music is just a plain cupcake statement. Hey 'cano how r u bro'???

It's amazing how you can't even make the most obvious statements about Axl's tenure at the helm of GNR without getting dragged into the whole cupcake!!! and HATER!!! nonsense.

So integrity! Much about the music!

I was talking more about their musical intentions in the mid 90s. I feel like part of the problem was the divergent ambitions.

The music, or direction of was one of the main sticking points.

Definitely one of the sticking points, but by all accounts they couldn't get Axl near a studio to do anything, so it sounds like a lot of the same problems Axl has now, regardless of musical direction. I wonder how much music Axl presented to Slash and Co. I'm thinking not much, if any.

Great post wfa. You see, that's why Slash had to leave. How could Axl move the band forward and play casinos and weddings with a guy like Slash on the band? The top-hatted one just released 17 fucking new songs! How pathetic is that? Release music, lol.

I'm glad the cancer and the (way more prouctive than Axl) junkies are all gone. Now Axl can tour a month per year and spend the rest of his time playing with his lawyer friends. I've been told he got 500 billion dollars from Activision because they pissed him off.

Personally, I love how sad little cupcakes like Coma16 try to use Mötley Crüe as an example of a washed up band while attempting to defend fat Axl's circus.
1994, GNR released Sympathy for the Devil as a single. fast forward to 2008, GNR finally released Chinese Democracy. In that time, Mötley Crüe has released:
Mötley Crüe (1994)
Quarternary (1994) [EP]
Generation Swine (1997)
Greatest Hits (1998)
Supersonic and Demonic Relics (1998)
Behind The Music: Mötley Crüe (1998) [DVD]
Live: Entertainment or Death (1999)
New Tattoo (2000)
Lewd, Crüed, and Tattooed (2001) [DVD]
Greatest Video Hits (2003) [DVD]
The Millennium Collection: The Best of Mötley Crüe (2003)
Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (2003) [box set]
Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 2 (2004) [box set]
Loud As Fuck (2004) [box set]
Red, White & Crüe (2005)
Classic Mötley Crüe: Universal Masters DVD Collection [DVD]
Carnival of Sins Live (2006)
Carnival of Sins (2006) [DVD]
Saints Of Los Angeles (2008)
Greatest Hits (2009)
Crüefest (2009) [DVD]
Sex (2012) [single]
as well as a remaster/reissue of their entire discography. They also recorded a brand new song titled All Bad Things earlier this year, and it will be coming out shortly, as will a DVD (and possibly to probably a live album) from the Final Tour.
Since 1994, Guns N' Roses has released:
Live Era (1999)
Greatest Hits (2004)
Chinese Democracy (2008)
Appetite For Democracy Live In Las Vegas 2012 (2014) [DVD]
so do i consider Mötley Crüe to be washed up? absolutely not. far from it, actually.
edit: forgot about live era and gnr's greatest hits, thanks rusty! my point still stand though.

You brought up Vegas, not me... Nice try though...

You're right cupcake, I did bring up Las Vegas as an argument as to why Axl is more about the $ than the music, a direct response to something I had quoted in my post. I also used his bowling alley show and his tommy hilfiger private parties. You're the one who tried to bring Mötley Crüe, a band who had nothing to do with this thread, into it.

The point still stands but you are leaving off GNR releases.

Oh shit, Live Era and Greatest Hits. Edited my post, thanks Rusty :)
