Chinese Democracy Booklet - is this one of the errors ?

It is hard to believe the low resolution pink and green graphic was given the thumbs up.

It appears to be some sort of place holder image, destined to be replaced at a later date.

The quality looks like some low compression .jpg

i think the record label was ready to wash their hands of the whole chinese democracy debacle. it's not like making a good booklet was going to make them any more money. and they'd already spent all they were willing to spend on these songs.

the rumor was axl wanted 2 re-release chinese democracy with a PERFECT booklet & extra tracks like BITW

If that happens, maybe they could bring someone in to re mix each track.

With some background in graphic design and it's studies, I'd put my life on the line and guarantee that graphic is just a spaceholder for what was supposed to go there. Likely the designer needed to send layouts around for approval and such, was probably working on the graphic that was supposed to go there and the low-res graphic was put in it's place (likely pulled from the internet) to just give an "idea" of what the final piece will shape up like. Only it seems they just sent to print and got it rolling here ..which is a shame.

if it happens. first. robin, bucket, and brain replace dj, bumble, and frank. next, bumble's and frank's parts erased. third, brian may's solo back on catcher. 4th, released PERFECTLY. perfect booklet. perfect sound. no sound distortion on cd or LP re-release

Which is all there is to say about it. The record company couldn't care less about the booklet after all the money they put down on the album. They just wanted to get the whole problem out of the way.

yeah, at the risk of enraging the nerds with blinders, i have a friend who used to work at geffen. said axl was always making demands, and they'd just ignore him and put him off. my friend said the consensus opinion was that axl still thought it was 91 and he was still the world's biggest star. he kept expecting them to cater to his whims, which they had absolutely no desire to do any longer (like the laughably absurd demand that they re-release the album months later with a new booklet). they gave axl enough rope to hang himself, and were all too happy to wash their hands of that album. hats off to azoff, for conning best buy into recouping their losses. after all, it's not like the album was destined to have any great, lasting success. they all just wanted to get out of it without wasting another dime on the project. so there's some typos and low res graphics in the booklet. aside from axl and about a hundred people who gather on forums, nobody noticed or cared.

You also have to take into account priorities in the music industry were shifting from physical to digital. You can't say they didn't care, because the vinyl version came out, and they could have said it was a waste of time and money to make that happen. But I think it was a knee jerk reaction to the leaks as well as Xmas season in a questionable economy that they "rush released" it. Axl should have insisted on all those booklets being exchanged. There was still a promotion budget, esp. if "Better" was being made.

But Cogill's leak, Dr Pepper, and MySpace streaming the entire thing for a month didn't help. The leak was less damaging than MySpace though. What interest would someone have if they could play the hell out of it for a month straight, or just go "glad I didn't buy it". But Axl did need to be more of a presence with Best Buy, doing a live Q&A with Del, and showing some live clips of the songs. They could've easily just used a bunch of concert footage as an official video.

With it being exclusive to Best Buy, he missed out on selling digital downloads, even if he had put 2 or 3 out, it prob. would've helped sales a lot.

Either way, when GNR's doing at least half the album night after night, they're standing by the songs.

The big money is in getting master tape ownership, whether he does that on his own, or they all went in on it with their lawyers and gave Geffen a number. But if Axl wound up with full ownership of the master tapes, a lot of record companies would be calling his ass.

Best Buy hardly has a music or video section anymore. That's def. not due to Axl taking the loot.

It was probably a place holder.

I wonder if HisTrollingSweetness can make one post without bashing the forum or, Axl or CD? If you hate everything about this forum, why come here? Why come here and post so frequently? A friend of mine told me he was a really big Slash fan and just liked to stir up shit. My friend who knows him said he is very sad and lonely and he really craves attention. :(

Some people collect stamps. I don't. I don't see the draw to it. You might even say I think it's a stupid hobby. You know what has never occurred to me though? To go to a stamp collecting forum pretend to be a US post office insider and incessantly bitch and cry about how terrible stamp collecting and stamps in general are. Instead I just don't collect stamps, crazy.

With all the other errors on the booklet, I just assume this is one of them.

The cool thing about it is it is a small, affordable piece of American history & art collection.

Has there ever been a 2nd pressing of CD ? - or are they still selling the original run ?

If and when the time comes to press more CD's, will they fix the booklet ? or leave it as it is, as that would maintain the view that the original booklet was as it should be (even although we know it wasn't).

you're right. never mind. it turns out geffen and every other label loved chinese democracy, loved investing untold money into the project, loved the idea of a "new" guns n' roses, and a "newer" guns n' roses, and went out of their way to cater to axl's list of very specific demands. the album was a massive hit, and today, children are dancing in the hallways of their schools to This I Love.

better?

don't shoot the messenger.

Apparently there was a second pressing in 2010. You can't buy Chinese Democracy in stores anymore, though.

HMV seems to stock a copy in our local store. It's either sat there for a very long time, or they replace it each they sell a copy.

Shouldn't you take your own advice then, and not read posts written by people who aren't worshipping Axl and the new band? I've seen you respond negativitly to people who disagree with you. So you are doing exactly what you are complaining about other people doing.

If posters with different opinions on a rock band fill you so full of anger, why not put those posters on ignore, don't spend time in this forum, or go to HTGTH where people aren't allowed to post anything negative about Axl and the current band?

You do understand that this is a forum, right? And not a band ran fan-site? A forum is for people to exchange ideas and talk about the forum's topic - in this case, GnR. A band run fan-site is a place for worshippers to go and let everybody know how big of a fan they are. HTGTH is a fan-site, for people to share their adoration and worship of Axl. Mygnr is a forum, where people can discuss the band - pros and cons.

If people with different opinions than you make you so angry, maybe you should take your own advice and go find a fan-site where you all can agree on everything?
