At least he is trying to sing the part of "i see the storm its getting closer" with some rasp,but he is still far away from singing it right.I just gave up from expecting a 2010 voice.I will remember him like 91-92 and from 2006-2010. It's disrespectful to the fans at this point.I agree with you as it pertains to the Rio debacle and I think he does himself, his band and us a huge disservice when he sings clean, weak falsetto on live TV and pay-per-view that end up watched by millions on youtube. However, as pertains to the bulk of the shows once he gets going in both 2002 and 2011-2012 I think it's fair enough. When you're at the shows, as I know having been to tens of them, his voice is being pumped so friggin loud that even if he's actually singing with clean falsetto it just sounds like he's screaming like a banshee at the top of his chest voice. That's what these idiots don't understand: it's not that the pesky iphones and youtube compressors make him sound shit, it's that when the same vocal is being blasted through a PA it sounds a shitload better.I don't agree with the poster below you who says 'he's lost it, it's gone'. It's pretty obvious he's simply saving it, and good for him. He's already gone round England one time since Chinese came out and rasped the roof off the O2 two nights in a row. He's on the 2nd go-around now and he's hopefully saving it so next time he comes round he can sing the absolute fuck out of The General.As Philly proved he can turn it on when he wants to and personally I think certain songs including Better and SoD sound better when he sings clean and uses rasp at specific points. MEXzilla Posted July 15, 2012 Share Posted July 15, 2012 Axl should play in small venues like he did in Dallas this year, which believe me he sounded awesome. not to say he sounds like crap or anything but like u guys said he is inconsistent n I believe it's cause he can't waistband big stadium crowds. I've said before that I think he really hurt his voice in 2010 and thought to himself that he can't go on singing like that. I think he's trying to find a comfortable balance between the rasp and the cleans. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. In any event, to me the only logical explanation for the decline in his voice between 2010 and 2011 (aside from not rehearsing and getting back into shape prior to the tour) is that he hurt his voice in 2010. Bronchitis plus trying to sing when you've got cold water pouring on you certainly wouldn't be easy.As far as I'm aware though, bronchitis doesn't last for months so it wouldn't be a factor nowI still remember how shocked I was to hear the performance of Jungle from the concert after Rio (Chile I think). We stayed up half the night waiting and stopped watching 3-4 songs Into the set. That performance as far as I'm concerned was without a doubt the worst sounding performance I have ever heard. Only on certain events such as the VMA's or the Freddy Mercury tribute. 2010 comes closest to a perfect Axl concert to me.
