This Slaxl topic reminded me of something, so Story Time:

Slash once talked about how one Halloween, he was stuck in a hotel room with a guy dressed as Slash and the guy's girlfriend, who was dressed as Axl. After some time, the girl and the guy started making out with each other or whatever (I think Slash called it "started doing boyfriend-girlfriend things" or something ) and Slash had no choice but to watch. I'm sorry, but the image of Slash trapped in a hotel room and watching two people impersonating him and Axl get it on with each other is just... :rofl-lol::rofl-lol::rofl-lol:

Axl's androgynous look is what made him as sexy as he was, no one can deny it, no matter how much they want to. All girls love a sensitive yet manly guy, and he was the absolute extreme of that.

As for the second thing... I've honestly thought about that seriously at some points. I mean, Perla looks eerily like Axl in a lot of photos and can be as boisterous as him. And Axl's biggest relationship was with Erin - dark, curly haired, shy (but dirty-minded and excessive in private, judging by the ISE video and many interviews). I mean, I'm not saying they'd go for each other if they were gay, but I'm saying it.

True.

I have too. I was actually thinking of Renee when I wrote that, but Perla makes a lot of sense as well. She's also curvy, often has her dyed some shade of red and has a temper. And also her facial structure- she's got that same cheekbone thing going on when she smiles that Axl has. I also remember Slash saying something like "I always go for the wildest and craziest girl in the room". Well, I can think of someone else who fits that description, and he's not a girl :P

Axl does seem to like women with lots of dark hair. Most of the women he's been with or was attracted to fit that description.

And yeah, say it. Let's be real, they totally would go for each other if they were gay... And maybe even if they aren't. It has been seriously debated by some people if there was more to Axl's and Slash's bitter break-up than just what we know about. I was amused when Steven Tyler once said that he knows what happened between Slash and Axl, but that he can't talk about it in public because it's very personal. :wow:

Yup, that's the thing. He's always had an androgynous look but he never looked or sounded gay. He has a well balanced combo of male-female (even if he still battles against homosexuality). This is what made him become an idol for both male and female. He was never rejected by the guys, like some other good looking but gay singers (i.e. Ricky Martin). In that sense he was somewhat like Freddy Mercury, although Mercury was openly gay.

Nowadays Axl looks like a butch lesbian  and yes, I'm still attracted to him, maybe because I'm a bit gay. All my boyfriends were that type of pretty face, female facia features. That's why I'm not attracted to Slash or Duff or Izzy. They look more manly.

Who's the redhead Slash married? Renee Suran?

Yeah, he had a lot of raw male energy to balance out his femininty.

He does look like a butch lesbian. I occasionally still find him attractive. Depends on the picture, etc... Agreed that the other three look more manly. Although Duff used to be a bit of a pretty boy as well (especially in the early days of the band).

Yes, I meant Renee, but like I said above, Perla is a lot like Axl as well in some ways.

Omg those pictures are so good. I have to say I woudn't mind seeing Axl and Slash kissing. With tonge. :rofl-lol: This is your fault girls!

Keep posting pics please LOL

I wouldn't mind seeing that either... Or that:

14 hours ago, killuridols said:

Me either. Do that fucking butt onstage already, Slash! Grab it, squeeze it, bite it, kiss it, touch it, feel me

LOL :rofl-lol:

oh and this just reminded me of the tons of fan fiction there is out there with Slaxl as subjects of the most pornographic stories. Have you girls ever read this?

I have, but it's been quite a while. Much of it is so badly written (bad spelling/grammer, out of character-nes, etc) that I mostly just get pissed of lol. And I actually prefer things that have at least some kind of plot going on rather than just straight-up porn  I remember when I was a kid, I used to hang out on rockfic.com a lot.

18 hours ago, cheesecake said:

I actually typed a lengthy reply to Apollo last week when he blasted me for mentioning Axl's weight. But I was on the road at the time (passenger, not driver) and didn't notice my mobile data was turned off. Only noticed it once I clicked submit and it didn't go thru and after turning data on everything I typed disappeared :max:. Was not in the mood to retype.

Some people need to understand for some rockers image comes in a package and that includes appearance. Yeah Axl's belting out killer voices now but it would be more pleasant if he appeals in the look dept too (not that he is bad looking btw but I guess people get my point).

I agree with you. Axl has always relied on his looks and sexuality as well as his musical/frontman abilities, and that's how people will always remember him and why he gets a lot of shit for his appearance now. If he'd been ugly and unappealing right from that start, it would have been different, but as it is...

And yeah, just cutting out the booze would already help a lot and it's not that big of a sacrifice to make. Maybe hanging out more with Duff and Slash again, who both can't/shouldn't drink will help with that, but that is most likely wishful thinking

So @killuridols just posted this interesting little article in the London concert thread. Since we're talking about Slaxl right now, this article seems appropriate here. Apparently what Axl does with young, hot chicks nowadays is to spend the majority of the time reminiscing and whining about Slash.  Some interesting quotes:

"We talk about tonight’s show and when Axl hears that “Live And Let Die” is my cell’s ringtone, he says to me : “Hey, that was Slash’s idea to make ring tones out of our songs. I wasn’t for it at the beginning, but I must admit he was right”. During the whole evening, Axl doesn’t stop telling us stories about Slash, about their childhood like when him and Slash had a new song and both jumped on his grandmother’s bed so happy, before being given a roasting. He goes on saying that it’s been very difficult to find an other guitarist after Slash, who was unique, and goes on praising DJ Ashba as a very nice human being. Clearly, Slash is still very much present in Axl’s life, even though he’s supposed not to be a part of it anymore…"

"He also deeply regrets the image that the press has made of him, making its profits of a megalomaniac, temperamental and erratic Axl, before making excuses to him, without doing it publicly. If Axl insists on the fact that he always tries to be direct and serious with the press, he’s unlike Zakk Wylde who can tease more without having a bad reputation in the press. Likewise, says Axl, Slash is considered as an angel by many journalists but can be much less nice in private."

"We are listening to Muse on the radio, “By The Sword” on Slash’s solo album is now on air. While Andreï stands up to switch to another station, Axl stops him and says “No, leave it. I love this song”.

Thoughts:

Axl was clearly obsessed with Slash the entire time they weren't speaking to each other. That's not really new knowledge, but confirmation of that once more.

The story about Axl and Slash jumping on his grandmother's bed is hilarious and adorable  Such children.

I like Slash, but I can totally believe that he can be much less nice in private where the public won't notice.

Didn't know Axl loves "By the sword". Cool. And I'm willing to bet Axl has listened to every single thing Slash has ever released. And we know he's also read his book, etc.

As you say, I also think that Slash can be much less nice in private while Axl the other way round.

"about their childhood like when him and Slash had a new song".......childhood? I thought they'd met as adults. Or does it mean they were children for a veeery long time?

Slash was like 16 years old when he met Axl and started in GNR. He was more like a teen I'd say. Axl was 20. Maybe the girl didn't understand that part or maybe Axl "when we were kids" meaning they were very young.. The older you get you really start seeing teenagers and people in their 20s like kids.

The thing about friendships that go sour, is they always play on your mind. so it not surprising that Slash was not far from Axls mind. Like In an earlier post about ex-wives it must be really hard to remove yourself from a person if they keep popping up in the media.

I'm beginning to realise what huge implications the phrase "married to the band" has.

I really don't think Axl and Slash had anything more than a platonic relationship, but the lives of the original band members are so tied up together that when things go wrong it must be incredibly frustrating, with constant reminders of past history. Look at Izzy,he seems to be trying his best to keep out of the regrouping, for reasons we can only speculate on, but Media, Fans, myself included are making demands on him. Can any of these Guys ever really walk away without the pressure if they wanted too?

Yeah, I guess that Axl probably said something like "When me and Slash were kids and living with his mom and grandma..." and that girl, not being as familiar and knowledgable about GnR as we are, probably heard the words "kids" and "jumping on a bed" and imagined them much younger than the teenagers/young adults they actually were. (And yeah, I'm not even 30 yet, but I also call people that age kids :P).

I'm actually really curious about the time Axl lived with Slash. The few things we do know about it are all pretty interesting and I wish they'd tell us some more about that.

Thanks for clarification @Lumikki and @killuridols, I thought they'd met when they were a bit older than that. It makes sense now <_<

I really hope we'll see some nice Axl/Slash moments soon. There are things he can't do with Angus without breaking him :smiley-confused2:.

It's interesting, that - people like to say that Axl didn't care about his bandmates but he has been the only one to show up for them. In Duff's case, Axl actually flew up to Seattle to see him in the hospital. I read in an interview with Del James that during the LA riots, Axl made his house available to any of his friends who needed a safe place to stay.

Indeed. He is like the moon - a dark side and a light side. Few people are all good or all bad!

Hahahah that story is hilarious! :rofl-lol: Must have been awkward as hell for him.

I actually had a freakin' picture saved that showed how Axl and Slash went out with girls that looked like each other. And yes, there was a period where I was one of those people that didn't exclude the possibility that they dated and it went sour (I know, I know, I was young). I don't really now, but there's still much more to the break-up than they've led us to believe. They're way too obsessed with each other and polar opposites to not cause speculation like that... Especially fueled by those early shows where they were inseparable. :P And Axl himself said "your friends are your lovers, or have been at one time."

I've also read fanfiction, at first I was scouring the Internet for platonic stories of a reunion, but it turned out there were barely any, so I had to sate my appetite with the Slaxl fics. They're really badly written for the most part, but there were some really good ones, too.

I know that story of Axl talking about Slash all night long and how he loves By the Sword. Maybe they could cover it. :wow: Anyway, it's sweet how they've always loved each other, Baz also said that when their wild nights ended and the sun rose and all the drunken mayhem stopped, Axl would say "never say never".

By the way, what exactly did the author mean by Muse on the radio? Is that a programme, or are they talking about the band Muse?

Yes, we don't know what exactly happened between them, but I also believe there is much more to it than they would like us to know. You don't get a situation like the one we've had for the last 20 years just because of "musical differences" or whatever. And why was Axl able to more or less get over Izzy and Duff leaving sooner or later, but felt oh so abandoned by Slash?

Good point about the early shows. I've always wondered why Axl and Slash seemed so damn close during that time (all that pro-longed cuddling on stage, etc). Later on that seemed to stop. Maybe it was a hold-over from living together or something?

(And yeah, that quote, thanks for reminding me :P)

Yeah, a couple of good ones exist, but they are rare gems.

I assumed the author just meant the band Muse was on the radio and then Slash came on. And don't worry about the thing in other thread, great minds think alike and all that :P

No one knows for sure what these people are really like anyway, so it's still basically fictional characters and fictional stories to me. Just that the characters share the names and looks of some actual people.

I think it's a pretty bad picture as well. And I agree with you, @Archtop, Izzy often seems very uncomfortable and akward in pictures. Maybe it's because he's been out of the limelight for so long? Or maybe his natural shy-ness? I did notice even in videos from back then, that Izzy seemed way less sure of himself, less "cool", and a lot more shy, fidgety and awkward as soon as he got clean. I think that like with Slash, the drugs probably helped him to be more relaxed about stuff...

I think after 1988 Axl and the rest of the band started getting more and more estranged, so that's why they cut back a bit on the onstage interaction.

I found it! The first GNR fanfic I ever read. It's pretty good imo, we can't expect profound literature from the Internet after all. And here's an Axl/Slash one that I read a couple of years ago:

(Warning: NSFW and also not suitable for people who don't like fanfiction and/or R-rated gay stories)

Yeah, Izzy has always come across as a guy who prefers not to be noticed. He doesn't like the spotlight, doesn't like playing huge arenas and stadiums and being a rockstar in general. That's part of the reason why he left the band. I think some of that stems from the fact he was a dealer and had to live in the shadows a lot. Back in the day Axl used to be the one who posed the best, but now it looks like it's Duff (Slash would be a contender, but he doesn't seem to realize pictures of his missing neck and double chin aren't very flattering ).

I think Izzy looks okay. But yeah, pretty old and a bit "homeless" as someone called in the other thread.

I think it's probably more shocking with Izzy because we don't see him as often as the other guys.

It's a good point - and one could also look at it as a satire. SNL and other shows satirize living people all the time, and there have certainly been very funny parodies of the band, like the McDougal's thing. With fanfic, though, a lot of it is very sexually explicit, and the fact that it's been writing something that graphic about a real person, using their name and speculating on whatever relationships they may or may not have - just doesn't sit right with me. As in anything, though, the answer is that if you don't like it, don't read it; and if the celebrities had an issue they'd have it taken down (some have, IIRC).

Yes, that estrangement has always made me sad. It was sweeter when they were like this little gang who had each other's backs.

Hah, I'll have to check these out some time. I know we can't expect profound literature from the internet, but the problem is I actually kind of do  Because I have read a lot of other stuff by amateur writers on the internet that was absolutely amazing, better than most books I've read. GnR fandom is too small too produce something like that though.

And speaking of Axl posing, I thought this bit from a recent article that was posted in D&N was funny:

"We were in the green room backstage at the Starplex Arena. My set up was just one light, and Axl was so easy to photograph. He knew how to look good, how to pose and vary the poses, [and] where to place his customized jacket on the arm of the sofa. He posed, I took a shot. He changed the pose, I took another shot. All this while the band members and crew looked on. Axl loved having an audience and loved making everyone laugh by goofing and pulling a few faces. I didn’t need much time or many shots. I knew we had great cover shots almost straight away, and the whole of that session took about an hour to photograph everyone individually and do posed group photos too."

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/guns-n-roses-1988-tour-photos/?trackback=blogroll_widget-latest-articles#photogallery-1=8

Super Model Axl

I can just imagine him being a total goofball while posing.

Also features Axl and Erin in love, Duff being bratty and Slash being Slash.

The good thing is that the GnR fandom is not very big, and you'd actively have to go look for this kind of thing, so the chance of any of the guys accidentally stumbling across stuff like that is pretty small.

And I wanted to post this earlier, but I forgot. Found this in my files while looking for Slaxl pictures yesterday. It's an old (as in years old) screenshot someone made from a Twitter Q&A Slash apparently once did? Fourth question is about why Axl hates him so much. Slash thinks it's the abandonment thing again that Marc Canter also mentioned here once. Among other things.

Not sure if it's even real (did Slash's twitter ever look like that?), but I thought it was interesting.
