In the era prior to this lineup, it was no guarantee it would even be played live when you went to a show. When I saw them in KC in '11 and '12, they didn't play it. And those were 30+ song sets (granted, with a ton of CD songs). But when was the last time they didn't play Jungle, Brownstone, PC, NR, SCOM, LALD, Knockin or RQ? I think Stinsonmade out the setlist then, so maybe he just didn't like it. But it wasn't considered one of the "untouchables"... I don't think it was the right song for the new band and style Axl wanted to play. Axl maybe underrated it at that point but not the fans and everybody else. It is still in top 10 most played guns songs and more played than You could be mine, Nighrain and Patiece on spotify. Underrated is something else, Civil war is not underrated. AxlRoseCDII
One of my favorite GN'R songs, it's my favorite depending on what day you ask me. The lyrics are some of Gun's best in my opinion and as a history nut it appeals to me.
StrangerInThisTown
I'd just like to know why Izzy didnt play on it. He didn't seem to have a problem playing it live Edited June 27, 2016 by StrangerInThisTown

Tom2112
Definitely not underrated. Most people who listen to gnr, regular or casually love the song.
starlight
I don't think so. It's a well known song from the GNR catalogue and one of the most played . I really like CW!

Millions
Under-rated??? Civil war is acknowledged by fans as a classic. I think most of us would agree with you that this is GNR at their very best. So no, I don't think its under-rated.
