Guest Len B'stard
MJ in his prime would always out shine whomever was dumb enough to share the stage with him.Yeah because to correctly execute a Jacko performance of the sort that enthralls you so the whole stage show/set up has to be constructed around him and to serve him. Thats what this image of the great Michael Jackson who could whip up a storm just by singing and dancing, well he fuckin' couldn't, there was an entire like, bajillion dollar production fuelling his peak.Elvis got those same reactions, arguably even more rabid, from crowds when he was just playing state fairs, just him, Scotty Moore, Bill Black and his dick. No flashing lights, jet packs, fireworks, light shows and all that fuckin' bullshit. Edited September 3, 2013 by sugaraylen

I gotta tell ya though, I literally laughed out loud at your above quote. Well played.

Or did you miss a little something called Motown 25??You're a well known MJ-hater around these parts Len, and as much as you enjoy downplaying the mans achievements, your low opinion on him will not change the fact that he is considered by many to be one of the greatest artists and entertainers of all time. He will go down in music history, like Elvis, and like The Beatles. I know it keeps you awake at night to hear that, but it had to be said. Iron MikeyJ
I never said MJ had a better voice than Marvin. I actually said the opposite. What I said that if you add up the whole package; voice, dancing, songs, impact he was vastly superior to Marvin and James Brown. MJ has a beatlesqu discography. He has a TON of quality songs. Most of which became hits. You say "fuck dance" but isn't that a big part of preformance? James danced also. I agree that many "black" artists have better over all voices "ranges" than MJ. But he could still sing his ass off. Better than 95% of "white" singers. Honestly I think Stevie Wonder has a "better" voice than MJ. On a side note, my daughter has been on a pretty big MJ kick here lately. She got me thinking about him again, we sat down and watched a lot of his videos. Sometimes I think we all forget how damn good he was. I know sometimes I do, and I used to be a pretty big fan. He litterally had that "IT" factor that makes a legend. That "IT" factor is what seperates him from the rest. Personally he's not my favorite, I like plenty other bands, artists, and musicians more. Hell I like Axl and gnr waaaay more than MJ. But I feel like I would be lying to myself if I say Axl was at any point better than Michael. I feel the same way about Freddie, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant, or any other rock singer you want to name. magisme
I love when Len gets all bent out of shape about rating something. Not as strong as usual, but still a decent argument even while foaming at the mouth.
Towelie
Michael Jackson is a fucking amazing singer. Have you tried singing a Michael Jackson song? It's pretty much impossible, as is evidenced by the fact that nobody can seem to do even a passable job at covering his songs. The man had a fucking four octave vocal range. I've bolded, italicized and underlined that, in case you missed it. He blows Marvin Gaye out of the water. Stevie Wonder is perhaps the only other male pop vocalist that competes with MJ as a singer. Guest Len B'stard
You do realise the most revered and influencial performance of his entire career was just him on stage alone with a single spotlight? Or did you miss a little something called Motown 25??Yes i do realise that but that doesn't detract from my point that all the footage out there of girls being carried out in tears and Jacko performing with all the various glitz and extra showey stuff colours a lot of peoples estimation about him as a performer. The response of the Motown 25 audience (which was a bunch of industry people basically) is relatively tame compared to the frenzied shit that I was pointing out, watch the show, if i recall it was hardly Beatlemania. The effect of one show or even a handful compared to the many fuckin' bajillions of hours of those big fuckin' Bad era, Moonwalker era ain't exactly an even balance. You're a well known MJ-hater around these parts Len, and as much as you enjoy downplaying the mans achievements, your low opinion on him will not change the fact that he is considered by many to be one of the greatest artists and entertainers of all time. He will go down in music history, like Elvis, and like The Beatles. I know it keeps you awake at night to hear that, but it had to be said.I'm sorry you feel that way but if you read my post I actually did give him a fair bit of respect. acko was good at Off The Wall, Thriller...after that? Still all good music but nothing that i'd consider exceptional. Is that hating?acko, to me is like the best of like...he belongs with Madonna and ABBA and Britney Spears as like...the pinnacle of THAT kind of pop musicOr that? In fact check out the 'what are you listening to' thread, i'm posted in there more than once that I'm listening to Jacko tunes, it's just to me no ones infalliable and i ain't that in love with anybody to lie to myself and ignore the truth of a given matter as I see it, none of these motherfuckers are family to me that I gotta lie to myself or anybody else about any of their shit. Marvin Gaye is one of my all time heroes as singers go but you'll often find me calling him a coke snorted porn addicted voyeuristic pervert...cuz he was I ain't judgin' or nothing, go for what you know Marv' but it is what it is cuz he was.Michael Jackson is a fucking amazing singer. Have you tried singing a Michael Jackson song? What a ridiculous thing to say No, i haven't tried singing a Michael Jackson song, just as i've never tried fighting George Foreman before but that doesn't disqualify me from being allowed to have the opinion that Axel Schultz is a shit fighter if i happen to think so.The man had a fucking four octave vocal range. I've bolded, italicized and underlined that, in case you missed it. He blows Marvin Gaye out of the water. So did Marv', despite what certain sites out of a google search tell you. In fact, google the shit and i can find you as many that say Jacko had 3 to Marvins 4 as well as the other way around. One thing that is certain though, Jackos voice didn't have depth like Marvin or Sam Cookes did. In fact, Jackos weird like that, his voice when he was younger seemed to have more of that fucking depth than it did as he got older, which makes no sense but there you go.I never said MJ had a better voice than Marvin. I just meant in that, out of all the aspects of a musicians performance, to me, that ones the least.I agree that many "black" artists have better over all voices "ranges" than MJ. But he could still sing his ass off. Better than 95% of "white" singers. Honestly I think Stevie Wonder has a "better" voice than MJ.Agreed. I would like to think part of that is because Lenny is my buddy. He still did get a little pissy didn't he though? C'mon man, it ain't like that I should really stop swearing cuz it's giving off a wrong impression of where I'm at when i'm saying some of this shit, it's nothing like that man, it's just banter, it's just nice to discuss with a big of aplomb otherwise it's just boring. 'begging your pardon sir, allow me to disagree' and all that Also, i love how none of you will even approach the James Brown rip off bit properly. Y'know why? Cuz you know it's true...the dancing (although Jacko took that shit further), the vocal style with the hiccups and the staccato bursts, the yelps, it's PURE James Brown and thats totally undeniable. In fact, i don't even think Jacko himself would deny it. Edited September 3, 2013 by sugaraylen
Guest Len B'stard
'i couldn't refuse to give this award tonight because nobody has influenced me more than this man right here' The cunts in fucking tears saying it too 'when i was a child he was the one i looked up to more than any entertainer'.SO...he's looked up to him all his life, he says nobody influenced him more, there are GLARING similarities in their style, both singing and dancing...BUT him a take off of James Brown? Oooooh no no no, course not Thats just Len hating on Jacko. Now here comes an avalanche of shit about 'everything comes from somewhere Len' and 'everybody had heroes, everybody had influences'. Well if thats true then one being a take off of the other ain't really that far a leap, is it?I really don't know why people get so bent out of shape about it i mean, even James Brown, he was a take off on Little Richard. I'd say he strayed from the main blueprint of Little Richard and added his own thing a lot further than Jacko did with the James Brown blueprint but it's the same kinda thing, dunno why thats so offensive. JB idolised Rich just like Jacko idolised James Brown. Edited September 3, 2013 by sugaraylen

Elvis and Michael went into a really sad decline the last few years of their lives. There was no way anyone could do an intervention unless they resorted to drastic measures. AEG, the same company that produced the GNR residency, might be ponying up hundreds of millions to the Jackson family.

Redhead74
MJ taught me how to the moonwalk (not in person, just off the TV) and I was the first kid in school to be able to do it, so yeah I like MJ.
