wasted
At first.I though it was a Seymour ballad but after listen to lyrics GNR gossip on board I thought maybe Erin. Outside shot maybe his mother, with all due respect. Or maybe God?

Estranged Coma
I can't wait for the new til to fully leak with raspy vocals, the clip sounded awesome! I enjoy this song.Plot twist it's about izzy 1
evader
Instrumental origins from 1991-93-ish. Vocals later - I'd guess with multiple meanings as with all his vocals. His mom died though, and I suspect that was one significant influence to the lyrics. "Found myself within her eyes"? Hello.Blame shit on lost loves all you guys want, because surely that is what it is, but I think you overopinionated may be wrong (as usual).. Intercourse
Its about Slash leaving him alone in GNR, he just used "she" to throw us off the scent.
Jordan Rose
Steph. In 1993 he said it was one of the heaviest things he'd ever written. He was still pining for Steph and 'shutting down' for weeks at a time around her birthday every year into the late 90s. One of the greatest unrequited love songs ever. GUNNER PT
In my opinion, the song is beautiful ... a certain sensibility is required to appreciate it ...I don't know, but ... I read somewhere that the song is about his mother ...

Axlspants
I'm sure he wrote it about one woman, recorded it whilst thinking of another. People forget that its best part of 20 years since he was with Steph and almost 30 since he was with Erin. Chances are, he's been in love with other women since then. I mean, are you still with the person you were with in 1991? Some of you weren't even born, I was a horny teenager wanking into a sock! God I loved that sock! wasted
And now I don't where, my gym sock isIt seems more specific with the Ghost of Pride lyric. I mean is that something that comes around every year? What do you think that means "Ghost of pride"? That his pride was killed by this chick and now the ghost of his pride comes back to haunt him? That's not cool man.I'm not sure if I enjoy this song, but I think it's a special song. In the macho world of hard rock to put this kind of song and sentiment out has balls, and then to pull it off to the point that it goes beyond just a ballad and it just works on another almost existential level where you just think Axl is the real deal. It's a bit Queen but also unmistakably Axl Rose. Edited August 28, 2014 by wasted
danijel00
Doesn't this song have something in common with DC, NR and Estranged?....I always though this song is connected with those Edited August 28, 2014 by danijel00

wasted
I could see guitarists liking, the music is pretty cool, the lyrics are harrowing, interesting lyrics. what's not to like? I mean it's not a floor filler really. But a bottle of gin, razor blades and This I Love, a ferrari and a winding russian mountain top road. Rose, Axl Rose - Snake dance not stirred.
Popular Post Jordan Rose
I don't have the time or inclination to search my archives for all the interviews and references including things said by Beta, Moby, Duff, Slash, Canter, Fernando and numerous others that make it very clear that Axl felt (and with no evidence to suggest he feels any differently today) that Stephanie was his soul-mate and his perfect woman. He felt that nobody else could make him feel more alive, he hoped they'd be together forever; he wanted to start a family with her and when she left him it consumed him in a depression that lasted for years. Like I said, into the late 90s and, for all we know beyond, he'd get depressed every year around her birthday. If you aren't aware of this, spend a few days reading through the interview and article archives at HTGTH and you'll wonder why people are even questioning it. The 'mother' thing makes no sense. When has any source ever suggested it's about his mom? It's clearly an unrequited, romantic love song, emotionally very close to NR and Estranged though about Steph not Erin. The videos that play during live performances of it are of beautiful young women. Besides, he resented his mother (and grandmother) for not protecting him from abuse as a child. No offense meant but if you think it's about his mother I can only assume you haven't read any of his interviews in the late 80s and early 90s because that makes absolutely zero sense on every level. It's very telling that the people who despise This I Love (and Chinese generally) and think it's weak/sappy/Disney/cliche etc tend to be the same people who support the old band, clamor for a reunion and want Axl/the old and to write more Appetite-style riff-rock with similar subject matter. I relate to This I Love for the same reasons I relate to Axl and consider myself an Axl fan first and a Guns fan second. It's been a year since I lost the girl I love more than anything and she is literally still on my mind all day every day from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. The longest period during any day when i'm not actively and consciously thinking about her might be 30 minutes of a movie before I think 'damn, I wish I could share this with her.' I know without a doubt that I will still be in love with her in several year's time, still feeling miserable without her on her birthday and at Christmas etc. I know i'll never say goodbye and i'll never forsake her for anyone else, at least not for a very, very long time. That's why every single word of This I Love rings true to me. And the people who hate it and who want more songs like Brownstone and Easy are, I imagine, the kind of people who jump from one relationship to another, get over one girl by getting under another a few weeks later, fuck around like rabbits when they're single and generally don't get too emotionally deep on any level in general. 4
Jordan Rose
With a positive connotation, pride refers to a satisfied sense of attachment towards one's own or another's choices or actions. As for 'gave up my ghost of pride,' it means what it literally implies. After she left him, his pride, his attachment to everything that was positive about that relationship, became so small and he eventually gave it up. It's another way of saying 'there is nothing left in the memories of us except hurt. I can't even be happy or proud for what we once had.'
