  1. I have trouble with how Axl sounds on The General. Whether its the processing or the quality I don't know. And the ending might have some artistic value, when he sings something that isn't meant to be understood or something... I don't know, but I have trouble digesting the whole thing. Monsters on the other hand is perfect. I really like it and it is easily some of the best music GNR had released in 20 years. (I have listened to both of them 50 times now or so, on different devices / speakers... friday was crazy, hearing them for the first time... but I'm starting to listen differently to them now the first excitement has dropped off)
  2. Seven, Me and my Elvis, Ides of March, Oklahoma.
  3. Perhaps is still nice and should be on the same album as The General and Monsters. To give it some balance. If everything would be dark it would be too much.
  4. Do we dare to dream of an album again? Absurd, Hard Skool, Perhaps, The General, Monsters. Add Atlas Shrugged, State of Grace and we're almost there. Duff and Slash have probably reworked more songs.
  5. The more I listen to it, the more I hear Slash all over it. Monsters was obvious, but I also hear it on The General now.
  6. The General has Wolfmother and Marilyn Manson vibes. Really confusing and crazy The funky sounds, the "can anybody help me" => Manson The high pierced vocals => Wolfmother
  7. Yep. Monsters should be a single. Slash is great on it as well. And it's not overly dark. Even a bit poppy at times.
  8. Monsters sounds like the phone leak we always believed to be The General. Slash has reworked the guitar work for sure though.
  9. Monsters is great. There are lot of things to like, vocals, Slash, etc. The General is weird to me, but growing on me. First listen I was like "wtf is this" but I'm getting into it... This is a huge departure from classic GNR though... which might explain the delay. Nobody dared to release this as GNR 20 years ago, come on. Would have been nice on an Axl solo album though. The songs on Chinese Democracy were the "safe" songs... this is my belief now.
  10. Listening to these leaks... The General is some weird shit. Monsters sounds kinda cool. I recognize Monsters from the phone leak guys... and I think I recognize Slash's playing (the way he plays). This is real...
  11. Poor fans that ordered and will receive that vinyl without any (other) means to play it "I have The General in my hands, but still have no idea how it sounds"
  12. Maybe Slash and Duff have changed the song significantly. We just don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if that soundcheck actually was The General. What else would it be? Unless Slash was playing something from his upcoming solo album.
  13. Their touring is actually quite impressive. It must be very hard to perform all the time and just keep going. Especially as they get older. New music is just not their main priority.
  14. Problem is that Axl loves it too I'm afraid. If he would release the songs that would be over. If GNR releases a new album that would be over. Nobody will care anymore. We would just listen to the songs and move on after that. People here are even disappointed that the title is "The General and Monsters" What if it doesn't live up to the hype? Oh dear. I just hope I like it and maybe can use it for my Halloween tracklist.
  15. That's very optimistic lol. They probably just like to mess with us. And it's easier than to actually release a great album.
  16. He can't replace Izzy, but Duff's songwriting is good enough to contribute a lot. As he used to do and also did in Velvet Revolver. Izzy brings raw rock n roll to the table. He brings some attitude to it, which shines through his music. "I wrote this song for you, go to hell" Duff can write some nice ballads actually. So Fine, Your Way (Loaded), Easier Lying (Loaded), Lighthouse and I really like Fallen. I imagine Axl + Duff + Slash would sound like Velvet Revolver's Contraband with Axl. Which would be great for a new GNR record. But without Izzy there will always be something missing. Box (Down by the ocean), Sweet Caress... his ballads are great and his attitude to rock n roll songs even better. Without Izzy songs like Don't Cry would not have existed.
  17. Might as well stop living then, because "the world" is a mess right now and the foreseeable future. I'm happy he released an album, good to enjoy some music while everything else goes to shit. My favorite songs are Fallen and Lighthouse btw. The rest doesn't do much for me. But Fallen is a timeless classic, for me at least. Great track.
