  1. And after all that, we hear it and go "this song sucks", "it was probably a lot better before they reworked it"
  2. OMG Anyways, at least we get to listen to Duff's new album today. Already streaming on Spotify for me in Europe.
  3. He could go into invisible mode and disappear again. Nobody wants that. Slash and Duff like things the way they are. They're just along for the ride and the paycheck. And they're free to do their solo stuff too for fun and creativity, so why bother anyways.
  4. I also think that whatever is in the vault will sound similar to the other CD tracks. We shouldn't expect anything else really. Maybe Duff and Slash add some classic GNR flavor to it, which can make it better (or worse) depending on what you like. But that's it.
  5. So if I got this right... Friday 20th october: release of Duff's Lighthouse LP. Friday 27th october: release of The General. "Don't worry we've got this": release of a new GNR album
  6. Robin Finck was a much more stable and productive member of GNR than Buckethead. Buckethead is very talented, and creative as well, but wasn't a great team player. It would not surprise me if Axl feels less motivated to credit Buckethead with something... unless his work was insanely good.
  7. I'll listen to The General first chance I get... and then probably wonder why afterwards. Guess I just want some closure lol.
  8. My hope is Slash has worked on more songs from CD II. He called them "epic". Perhaps is nice, but epic? Not really. Bring on The General, Seven, Soulmonster etc!
  9. Come on GNR, release something! Even friggin Staind has a new album... I never thought that would ever happen again but it did. And it even has some good songs too. If you don't love me, can't say I blame you I've known me better and I think I hate me, too Classic Staind...
  10. It's a great song and I like it... it's a shame that when I start playing Living The Dream (as a whole album) I can't stand it for long. Just too busy, too much Myles. And I actually like Myles, but sometimes his voice is just too much. But when he controls himself a bit more, tones it down, like he does here, he actually sounds amazing (Alter Bridge - Burn It Down is another great example of this). And of course I like Slash's solo here too
  11. Well, that's actually kind of interesting though. I find most rock bands that like to "rock all the time" boring af. So it's great when there is some dynamic within the band, which leads to more variation. Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin had this dynamic, with Duff and Slash adding even more flavour to it. But their solo stuff is mostly more of the same. Axl writing sad piano songs about Erin, Izzy rocking out, Duff punking out, Slash actually being the one with the most variation, mostly through collaborations, but still. It would be interesting if they actually would write new music together, instead of touching up Axl's songs. To get that dynamic back. And yes, they need Izzy... at least for the songwriting, and keep Fortus for touring.
  12. The funny thing is we actually agree on something... because I don't care that much about the mixing and production either. Which is why I have written that reply about I Sat By The Ocean. I mentioned I listened to it on mobile phone speakers, implying that the sound quality doesn't matter that much to me when it comes to deciding whether a song is actually good or not. I used to have a phase in my life that I did care and had expensive studio monitors, high quality head phones (I still have those) and would listen to every minute detail and worry about the lack of dynamic range. But that's a long time ago. Which brings us to the songs themselves. I think Absurd is one the worst songs GNR has ever released. But yeah, that's just my opinion and a matter of taste. Not a matter of mixing or production. Also not about "new" vs "old", because there are songs on Chinese Democracy that I like (IRS, TWAT, SOD, Madagascar etc). Hard Skool is not as bad as Absurd, but not a song that resonates with me. So even if it's hard to understand for you, I actually like I Sat By The Ocean more than Absurd and Hard Skool just based on the song itself and not the mixing or production. You mention "energy". It could be that your preference leans more towards "busy" / "fast paced" songs than mine. We can still like the same band and the same artists, but just different songs. I usually like the more laid back and slower GNR songs. You might not. And that's fine. My wife thinks I like the more depressing stuff, which to me is soothing but others can't stand it. PS After listening to Absurd, Hard Skool and I Sat By The Ocean again, Spotify proceeded to play songs from my playlist and played Big Empty (Stone Temple Pilots) which is one of my all time favorite songs. It is much slower and more laid back. You might hate it Same with guitar solo's... I usually like the slower bluesy stuff, Slash can be really good at that: Slash starts at 4:06 and 5:00. Just wonderful solo's. This is what I want him to play... not the Speedy Gonzales Slash that just wants to play faster all the time. But it's still Slash if you know what I mean. You might like Slash for different reasons.
  13. I Sat By The Ocean by QOTSA is just a "better" song than Hard Skool. I'm listening to it to check it out for the first time atm on a friggin mobile phone speaker. The riff just makes you wanna dance and I'm not even a QOTSA fan per se. I like some songs but that's it. But I really like the simplicity of it and I want to pick up my guitar and play along to it. Absurd and Hard Skool just aren't that good. Perhaps at least has its moments (I really like the piano during the guitar solo) and is just a better overall song than Absurd and Hard Skool.
  14. We still don't know what the "mysterious song" is which was played during a soundcheck last year. Either that is The General, or it's actually something else... like Seven, because it has some resemblance to the Circus Maximus leak. But this is a lot of wishful thinking on my part as well. Most likely they will just release The General and nothing else for now.
  15. There are still quite a few NuGuns fans around here, who like the more modern sound of Chinese Democracy. Slash isn't a great fit on these songs, and I really like Slash. In an ideal world I'd rather have them write new songs with Slash and throw the Chinese stuff away. Or completely rerecord them in a way that fits Slash and Duff, instead of the copy / paste stuff we get. Slash really shines as a bluesy hard rock guitarist.
  16. Axl has always wanted the current band members on new releases. They have rerecorded stuff over and over again in the past... so it won't be any different now.
  17. It's time to release this song already... personally I don't think it will sound much like the concert intro. Parts of that intro might be in the song, but the song itself (as a whole) will probably sound quite different. People like Brain called it "a cool jam".
  18. People want GNR to relive the old days with an epic song that has a lengthy Slash solo.
  19. That's not a tease, that's just the comment I already knew about and it changes nothing about our assumptions of how the songs sounds.
  20. There are some similarities but I'm not sure. I like to believe it's something else lol.
  21. John Mayer is like the opposite of Joe Bonamassa for me. Bonamassa plays like a God, but looks like the crazy neighbour from down the street... John Mayer has a very different style of playing, but is a joy to watch... because he really enjoys playing. The faces he makes
