  1. If you want to argue for a trend you would be better off pointing to anything but outliers.
  2. Yeah, you picked one of the most expensive videos from recent times from a band known for their elaborate and costly videos.
  3. I know you didn't ask me, but I got curious and looked into it. This list shows the most expensive music videos: List of most expensive music videos - Wikipedia As you can see, Estranged cost about 10 mio in today's money. Rammstein isn't on the list, but in this thread you can see someone put it at 6 mio: I don't know how reliable that source is, though. Still, if we trust it then when accounting for inflation, Estranged was more expensive than Deutschland. Still, the argument doesn't makes sense, cherry-picking the most expensive video created in recent times will not refute the argument that videos are much less important for artists now than they were back in the days of MTV. You'd have to compare average expenditure per artist on music videos, per their total budgets. I would be extremely surprised if artists don't typically spend less on videos today than in the 80s and 90s when videos were one of the main sources of getting new fans.
  4. Yeah, Miles was one of the reasons I left midway through a Slash concert.
  5. Oh fuck, man, I am sorry to hear this.
  6. Given that someone likes a music video, you still find it weird they would see that video numerous times? How odd. It is what people who like videos, do. It follows naturally from enjoying something - you want to do more of it. Besides, that video is a cornucopia of details. I see something new each time, in almost every scene. Don't be surprised by me putting effort into discussing anything. There is practically no limit to how engaged I can get in a topic, no matter how irrelevant or meaningless. As for complaining about people who complain: Really, have I done that? I couldn't give two shit what other people think, it is all subjective and the most boring thing I know of are discussions where people argue over subjective preferences. Like the recent thread where people got their panties in a twist because some magazine dared to present a list of the best GN'R songs that didn't perfectly align with their own opinions. Again, I couldn't care less what you or anyone else think of the video. But I do care about why people like or don't like the video, and why people welcome AI or are so afraid of AI. But that are different topics. What I did do, though, was to point out that those who don't like the song keeps repeating that over and over again thus burying the positive posts, as both a friendly jab and as a somewhat puzzling observation. Why is it that people who are negative about a subject insist on claiming their subjective opinion is somehow objective (at least 5 posts showing this phenomenon in this thread), seek validation from authority figures ("Axl can't possibly have okayed this!" "This means Axl can't have been involved!" Just paraphrasing, obviously...) and a need to repeat their opinion over and over as if it then automagically goes from being a subjective opinion to become a fact? Are they so insecure with their opinions? And again, I am not pointing this out to complain about it, or to mock those who do, but because it fascinates and puzzles me. Those who like the video take a much more subtle approach by simply just stating it, and usually saying it is just their opinion. Why this difference?
  7. Yeah, I also found that comment a bit strange. Compared to most songs on Chinese, This I Love is extremely simple in arrangement. I still hate it, though
  8. This was really interesting. The connection between Gilby and Matt and Izzy is well documented (1962-1991: GILBY BEFORE GUNS N' ROSES) but not the connection to Steven. Interesting!
  9. Do you understand the semantic difference between what I actually wrote, which was "I have seen it 5 times now and I like it," and what you claim I wrote "I've seen it 5 times and now I like it"? Read it again if you don't get it. Do I have to excuse the fact that I wanted to share my opinions on AI? "Feeling the need"? Poor you, having to read someone defending something you don't like. And no, I didn't say anything about the video itself before it was released, I talked about AI in general. I was one of few who reserved judgment on the video itself until it was actually out there.
  10. That was a general discussion on AI before the video had been released and your responses contained way much more text than mine. I never said I had to watch it five time before I liked it, this is just you being either an asshole or not able to understand.
  11. Hmmm? There's been quite many posts from people here saying they like it. They just get buried in posts from people who feel the need to repeatedly tell us much they don't like it If I were to guess I'd say maybe 20% are somewhat positive.
  12. As long as the vocals are good, then I prefer they stick to whatever they have than re-record. I get that re-recording will make it represent his current voice and might make it easier to make it fit with Slash's guitar, or whatever, but then it could also potentially result in nothing being done, so.... And the vocals to State of Grace are phenomenal, at least the version in the Locker leaks.
  13. Except that Perhaps has different vocals at the end. I am QUITE sure there is a version of State of Grace with vocals of higher production value.
  14. I don't even like that, I am in different to it.
  15. I have seen it 5 times now and I like it. Not like it is a masterpiece or anything, just that there is a lot of cool things happening and really crowded with something new to see each time. A thing that occurred to me: There are monsters in the video, providing a connection to the song Monsters.
  16. That's what I assumed. The level of sycophantic messages on social media is astounding.
  17. Ah, so just speculation. Would be hilarious if true, though.
  18. No. But a qualified guess is that it is somewhere in the queue of songs to be released. But dont hold your breath.
  19. The rendering hours themselves would push it far, far beyond $500 Then comes the live shots editing, the live motion, the hand drawings, and finally merging all this and post-production. So obviously maaany hours work resulting in much higher cost/price than most of their recent videos.
  20. You could very well be correct and this is the band just following trends, but that is pure speculation. In my opinion, this is likely to a much larger extent being oursourced to third parties with Axl being less involved (for better or for worse), than, say, the video to November Rain was. Still, I am sure Axl has been involved to some extent and has okayed the style and direction. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if younger people like this and that this will actually make the band more appealing to a new demographic. I appreciated your measured and thought-out response
  21. I am actually ambivalent to it. My main problem is all the motion. No, you can't get this for $500 on Fiverr
  22. Creative Works were only dealing with the band management, which is customary and really what management is for. They wouldn't necessarily know to what extent the band itself directed management. And thank god Axl didn't decide to go for a complex storyline
