  1. I thought about that too. I also thought about Oh My God. But I guess it depends on how you define "epic". Neither The Garden or Oh My God are epic enough in my opinion. I wouldn't call them epic songs, even if they lean a bit into that direction.
  2. Yeah the cellphone clip is pretty rough because of all the noise. I didn't originally hear much of the song when I listened to it, but with better speakers the song became much clearer. Sometimes songs become very different when they evolve. For example Michael Jackson's demo called Al Capone became Smooth Criminal later. Those are almost completely different songs, but the other is still based on the other. So in theory it is possible that even State of Grace could have evolved into an entirely different song. Still, like I said, it is more likely that they are different songs. It's pretty difficult to imagine that the song would have changed so much since State of Grace is a pretty good song the way it is.
  3. Yeah State of Grace is the closest thing to what The General sounds like based on the cellphone leak. Also the ending of November Rain has that mean but epic sound to it. But other than that GNR hasn't really made dark and epic songs before. I'm curious, why you think Bach would have mixed up The General and State of Grace? Are you thinking that he mixed them up only because he didn't mention the orchestra when he described The General? Personally I'm pretty sure that he knew what song he was talking about because the cellphone clip of The General sounds very much like what Bach described. Of course the description fits State of Grace as well. The theory that State of Grace would have become The General isn't completely far fetched. Those songs are kinda similar, but on the other hand nothing about the cellphone clip of The General sound exactly like State of Grace, so they're more likely different songs. Still, The General does sound like the song that Bach described and it is considered a "big gun", so it's pretty likely in my opinion that The General is the song that Bach was excited about.
  4. I agree, so you're not alone. Absurd and Silkworms are like day and night for me. I don't like Silkworms AT ALL, but I love Absurd. I was kinda disappointed with the Hard Skool demo also, but the finished version is great. Perhaps isn't all that different compared to the demo, but I still prefer the finished version.
  5. Out of the village leaks with vocals I actually liked Atlas Shrugged the most, so yeah, of course I want a finished version of it.
  6. It's not going to be a ballad and it's not going to be a fast paced rocker either. From what I've heard it seems to be a a dark but epic song. Sebastian Bach described it like this: "it's by far the heaviest metal tune I think Ι've ever heard Axl do, this slow, grinding riff with these high, piercing vocals, screaming vocals. " Imagine a slow and dark orchestra in the background of those riffs and high screaming vocals and that's pretty much The General. It sounds like something that we haven't really heard from GNR before which is very exciting.
  7. This was a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Crazy that the band actually released a music video like a normal band. This feels like a present, not only to the fans, but to the entire GNR crew. Many people in the team have surely been working hard for this to happen so it's nice to see that they're rewarded with an appearance in the video. Hopefully they manage to keep up with the good work and The General will have a music video as well. Personally I would love to see a video that's more than just touring and backstage footage. But any video is better than nothing. Well it was a miracle that they managed to get one proper music video out, so it's probably better not to expect this to happen again any time soon. This is GNR after all. Still, if the GNR crew is reading this, I'd like to say thank you for this. It was a great video and we hope to see more music videos in the future!
  8. Feels surreal that this is actually happening. We are waiting for an actual "big gun" to be released. We've heard The General (the holy grail) before the end of the year.
  9. For me it would be Hard Skool>Absurd>Perhaps I really enjoy Perhaps, but I just love those two other songs more. Probably cause I prefer energetic rockers over midtempo rockers in general. These slower songs have to be really special for me to prefer them over fast paced stuff. I have a feeling that The General could be one of those really special midtempo rockers
  10. I like it! It's not all that different compared to the demo. I've always thought that if GNR released music more often like a normal band, that music would perhaps sound something like this song. Instead Axl seems to always be striving to write epics like November Rain, TWAT, The General or something, which is a difficult task. Consequently, he ends up releasing music extremely rarely. So yeah, this song is nothing earth shattering, but not everything has to be. Personally I prefer Hard Skool and even Absurd over this cause I prefer energetic rockers in general. But I still enjoy this song immensely. It's far better than most music that's released these days. It's genuinely gratifying to be listening to fresh GNR music once again.
  11. You got to bear in mind that negative people often tend to be the loudest. People who love Atlas, don't spend nearly as much time praising the song as those who dislike it spend complaining about it. You shouldn't draw significant conclusions based on the comments here. By focusing solely on the Mygnr comments, you could easily develop the misconception that most people hated Hard Skool for example, whereas in reality, the comment section on the actual Hard Skool video on YouTube is predominantly positive. I loved Atlas. I also loved Absurd and Hard Skool. However, I don't dedicate my days praising them and there are numerous others here who are just like me.
  12. You mean his natural voice? He uses it more these days, because people have been begging him to use that voice more. Without a doubt his natural voice is much stronger these days compared to the falsetto type voice. Unfortunately his high pitched (Mickey) voice is pretty weak these days. That's why people want him to sing DOTF type songs more cause he sounds stronger on those type of songs. That natural voice is not the signature voice that people usually associate with Axl, so it's understandable that it doesn't sound good to some people like for example you. But his high pitched voice doesn't really sound the same as it did in the 90's, so many people want to rather hear a strong lower pitched voice than his Mickey voice. The only way Axl could please all GNR fans would be if he got his old voice back, but obviously that's not possible. He is much older now. So some people want him to use his lower voice more these days. Some people want to hear the high pitched voice even if that voice is much weaker these days. He does what he can to please everyone. He hasn't abandoned the high pitched voice completely, but he tries to sing more with his natural voice.
  13. You haven't even watched the movie and you're complaining. What is wrong with you? I finally had the chance to watch Dial of Destiny a couple of days ago. It was alright! Better than Crystal Skull, but not really up there with the classics. Tons of people were whining about how woke the movie is going to be before the movie came out and surprise surprise there's actually nothing woke about it at all. It's just another Indy movie. Indy is older in the movie for sure and he's portrayed that way as well, which is a good thing. It would be ridiculous if a 70-year old Indy would behave exactly like a 30-year old Indy. What's good about the movie is that it's a bit more serious compared to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There was way too much ridiculous stuff in KOTCS. There was the monkey swinging, weird killer ants, dumb sword fighting in the jungle, the rubber three that supports a car, the way they used the snake as a rope etc... I didn't even mind the nuclear blast scene or the aliens, but most of all the jungle scene kinda ruined the movie for me. It never really felt like they were in any kind of danger when Marion was just smiling all the time. This movie was different. In fact you could even argue that it's a bit too serious for an Indy movie, but I much prefer a more serious tone compared to the cartoon vibes of KOTCS. There was a lot of great action in the movie. Especially the opening sequence felt like classic Indy, although the de-aged Indy was a bit weird. I can't say that it was terrible cause in many ways it was impressive how much he looked like young Harrison Ford. But at the same time it was far from perfect, so it was still a bit distracting. There wasn't really anything that I would have disliked all that much about the movie, but at the same time there wasn't really anything THAT amazing about it either. And that's really my main complaint about the movie. It was slightly forgettable. In my mind almost all scenes in the original movies are legendary. Even KOTCS had many unforgettable scenes, even if some of the scenes are legendary only cause they are so terrible. I feel like this movie didn't really have all that many unforgettable scenes. Still I have to raise my hat to James Mangold. It's almost impossible to make a good Indy movie because the bar is so high. This movie was a decent effort and I enjoyed it. Harrison Ford was great as always and Mads Mikkelsen was perfect in his role as well. I also liked Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character Helena. She wasn't really all that different compared to Indy's previous sidekicks. Sometimes she was a bit annoying, but so were all the previous sidekicks. Sometimes she was quite likable also. And no, she wasn't portrayed as superior compared to Indy. Stop believing everything that these anti-woke people come up with. She wasn't a helpless damsel in distress, but Indy saved her plenty of times in the movie. The other sidekick Teddy Kumar was pretty unnecessary though. He didn't really add anything to the story. The movie has an emotional level to it as well. Some people will hate it cause they don't want to see a sad Indy. But it's a movie about time, aging, loss and ultimately it's also a story about how time heals. It's very understandable that writers want to add deeper levels to their stories so that it doesn't feel too superficial. Some people will hate it though cause they want these characters to be exactly the same as they were in the movies that they watched when they were children. But each to their own. I would rank the Indy movies like this: 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Last Crusade 3. Temple of Doom, 4. Dial of Destiny 5. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
  14. Yeah, I mentioned the cellphone clip earlier as evidence of the fact that the orchestration plays in the background throughout the song. My point is that there's no evidence that The General ever had a 3 minute intro.
  15. It IS The General. There's no doubt about that. But there's no reason to believe that it's an INTRO to The General. Rather than a 3 minute intro, it's more likely orchestral backgroundmusic in the song The General.
  16. I doubt The General ever had a 3 minute intro. The instrumental that they used to have as an intro to GNR shows was most likely just orchestra that you hear in the background of the song The General. So it was used as an intro to GNR shows, but there's no reason to believe that the whole instrumental was ever meant to be an intro to the song The General. The so called intro that we've heard is most likely just something that you can hear in the background of the The General. You can actually hear the orchestra in the background of the cellphone clip that we've heard. So when the song is released and it doesn't have a long-ass intro, it doesn't automatically mean that the song has been simplified. There's no evidence that the song ever had a 3 minute intro.
  17. Yeah, I'd prefer Lex Fridman as well, but I'm not against Joe Rogan either. Joe Rogan is pretty dumb sometimes, but I like the format of these shows. You get much more in depth responses from people in podcasts like these compared to something like Jimmy Kimmel for example.
  18. That depends on if there's any rumors about GNR working on brand new music. I'm always interested in hearing new GNR music. If all CD-era material has been released and there's no talk about new music at all, then I have no reason to come to these forums anymore. Info about new music is the only reason why I visit this place. So if there's no talk about new music at all, then I won't care anymore. I'll be grateful for all the music that GNR has released, but I don't really care about touring or other stuff related to the band much. I only care about new music. To be honest I'll probably always check what's going on on this forum every now and then, just to see if there's any rumours about new music. But the less likely it is that new music will come out, the less I'll visit this site.
  19. When did Axl say that CD2 would be more epic? I remember him saying this about CD2: "Same people, lots more approaches, bit meaner in places and darker in some." But I don't recall anything about CD2 being more epic
  20. I'm with you. I mostly like Bumblefoot's contributions. Not sure who is in the minority. Either the Buckethead fanboys are a very vocal minority or they are the majority. I don't know and I don't really care. I'm just happy that I tend to prefer the final versions that GNR puts out. I also prefer the final versions of Hard Skool and Absurd over the demos.
  21. To be fair, this place has always been haunted by the spirit of Pele, long before anyone had even heard of him. There have always been individuals like him here, asserting that Axl hasn't written anything and dismissing anyone who suggests otherwise as delusional. Even prior to the release of CD and before any material had been leaked, there were claims that the band had only written the tracks that they had played live, and anyone who believed in the albums's eventual release was labeled as delusional. Remember when everyone was delusional who saw the signs that a reunion was happening? Everyone who has even the slightest bit of faith in Axl, is always delusional according to these people. The only thing that made Pele stand out was his obsession with the subject. The way he talked about it day after day after day after day, none-stop.
  22. Who says that these songs were ever left unfinished? The demos were obviously unfinished cause they were demos. But we know that for example Atlas was a finished song already when CD was released. There's no reason to believe that these songs were ever supposed to be abandoned. And there's no reason to abandon them. They are great songs! Are they earthshattering? I don't know about that, but how many GNR songs have ever been earthshattering? Is Nightrain earthshattering? Is Yesterdays earthshattering? I don't think so. They're just great songs and that's more than enough. It would be ridiculous to say that a band shouldn't release music unless it's earthshattering. Don't know if Hard Skool was ever considered a big gun, but it's certainly a great song. And that's not just my opinion. It's already a more popular song on Spotify than for example Perfect Crime and Dead Horse. People clearly like that song, so why shouldn't GNR release music that people enjoy? I don't remember exactly what unreleased GNR songs have been called big guns, but at least The General and Seven are supposed to be big guns. Apparently, according to the leaked setlist they might actually release The General this year. That's when we'll hear what a so called big gun is supposed to sound like.
  23. Down On The Farm is so good! It's always the highlight of the show for me. Pretty Tied Up would be another highlight, but I can never find a working link when they play that song.
  24. Just because the lyrics were inspired by the Oklahoma City bombings doesn't mean that you have to know anything about the bombings to relate to the song. Shackler's Revenge was inspired by the Virginia Tech Shooting, but you don't really have to know anything about it to enjoy the song. You don't have to know anything about Stephanie Seymor to enjoy Chinese Democracy in general. The name of the song became Berlin later anyway. We don't know if he changes the lyrics when he changed the title. It's perfectly possible that he didn't even change the lyrics. Axl's lyrics are usually so vague that you can associate them with many different incidents and themes.
  25. Atlas was better than I expected and Bach was right about Sorry. Anyone who says that "almost like doom metal" isn't a pretty accurate way to describe Sorry has probably never listened to doom metal. That being said when The General is released, I will listen to it and then listen to it some more. That's it really!
