Don't you kids check out the booklet anymore?  It's 'There all alone'

I agree about the lonely tears calling you though.

Another one is Scraped: Don't you try to stop us now. I just refuse. Don't you try to stop us now. Cause I just won't let you.

It fits better in a boyband song. I always found it funny that a grown up man would sing a thing like that. Feels more like a teenage thing to me.

And then the whole Gonna call the president etc of course. Love IRS and I like the rest of the lyrics, but that chorus is so odd.

  2. So awful... Heading over there in a few days  I guess I should consider myself lucky I'm not there now.

You can't prevent such an attack, but it seems like Sweden might get military on the streets now too, just like we've been having for over a year now.

I was on the site when she was around. I'd given up on the forum by the time the infamous confrontation happened, but was there before. She was the main mod. While I had no issues with her, I know others did. When the site was revamped and/or sold (I don't know...I'd walked away by then) one of the specific things they did was let people know that the site was under new management and she wasn't modding anymore. I remember getting that email.

So I don't think it was just shirt-gate. I think, as others have said, it might have been more about anger that built up over time.

I am not going to excuse the objectionable words - 'lesbian' should never be used as a slur. But I also wonder how it has to be if you're a public figure and day in and day out, you're getting bashed left right and center, even on a site where people are supposed to be your fans. They always tell famous people, authors, writers, etc. not to Google themselves because it will make them upset - I would guess that those negative comments stay with you no matter how thick-skinned you are. And I would guess that it might be very, very hard not to reply with a hearty "fuck you" to people who are being cruel.

There are fan pages and Facebook pages where the celebs/public figures participate heavily, and sometimes they are absolute assholes to their fans. I've been completely turned off some celebs by the way they interact with their fans online.

Axl hasn't done that. He responded angrily once.

I think the issue with Madison wasn't her view of Axl or GNR, but how she treated posters? Apparently she loved swinging her ban hammer :P

Yes, Axl hasn't done that. He doesn't interact at all  (Not that I'd prefer him being an asshole to fans online. I'd rather he keeps quiet then.)

Have to disagree with this. While his reaction was overkill, Madison isn't entitled to anything for running a forum.

Even if you're a diehard fan, if you fuck up the band members have every right to call you out on it. No matter how much it stings. Obviously he could've been more professional but this is Axl we're talking about. Tact isn't exactly his strong suit. :shrugs:

Of course he was allowed to call her out on it, but like that? Really? How would you feel if he came out and started lashing out at random fans because they blame Axl for Izzy and Steven not being there? Because God knows he's being bashed constantly by some. Would that be okay too? If he came out to 'defend himself' and call a bunch of posters derogatory names? I wonder if some of you would still be applauding and cheering him on then. Jesus.

It would've been disrespectful and inexcusable if he'd done that to anyone, but bearing in mind this is someone who devoted years of her life to the band, well, that makes it even a bit more bitter to me. She wasn't fucking up the band members, was she? When did she do that? She was just giving the information she got at the time. Nothing wrong with that. If her information was wrong, maybe you know, they could've communicated it like civilised human beings?

As for her being entitled, yes, I think she deserves respect, same as every other human being.

  5. Um, to the people defending Axl in his rant against Madison... I wasn't around at the time, but have spoken to people who were. She was very controversial to say the least, but for Axl to come out and do that to a person who's a diehard fan and has spent literally years of her life keeping this forum afloat, I think she does deserve a little more respect (certainly from Axl), and to call her a hater is plain laughable. (She still has an account, btw, but I think I haven't seen her post since last year. Hater )

If it wasn't for her years ago, this forum wouldn't even be here.

No matter what Axl thinks,  I don't think it's impossible that he didn't know someone in TB asking security to ban Slash shirts. In fact, that wouldn't surprise me in the least. They've done more questionable things to 'protect' Axl.

I proudly have watched this movie 23 times

Since Backstreet Boys are here, this deserves a spot too:

Yes, to me, Mark Wahlberg (Markie Mark, as we'd like to call him) will always be NKOTB's Donnie's little brother.

    Wrong.

At least in the states, plenty of people pay cash and change for gas. There are a handful of idiots who will go inside to pay with their card. I don't know why. I can get the exact amount I need pumping manually outside (to the penny nonetheless), but there are those people who don't for reasons I cannot comprehend.

I have yet to see a pump where it would accept bills and change. It would be a good idea though in my opinion.

They don't have it though  because they want inside sales.

We are just a glorified vending machine except with required labor pay.

Yeah, sorry, I was talking about here in Europe.

We had those machines you're talking about that take cash and give change, but that was around 20 years ago. I haven't seen them in ages.

Think about all those people whose day you brighten with your smile and some kind words  That's something a vending machine could never do.

Maybe if we go to all robots, people will start appreciating that again. But by then, it might be too late.

As a gas station attendant, ab-so-fucking-lutely.

If I were CEO, I'd tear down the building, install a vending machine by the pumps, allow the pumps to take cash, and have a portable bathroom outside.

Put some security cameras up and hire someone to clean the bathroom and inspect the pumps twice a day and profits would soar through the fucking roof.

We're there already. Basically only the really big stations still have a store where you can get some food or drinks, and that's what it's used for. I don't think people still go in to pay for gas. It's all paid with cards.

Heeey, I'm a translator too! If you ever need Portuguese translations give me a heads up. :)

    Haha, will do :)

  9. I'm a translator. Judging from Google Translate, I'm not overly worried yet. It would be nice to hold it out until I can retire, but who knows? For now, computers/robots don't seem to be able to grasp some nuances that humans can (or should :P).

I do wonder though, if all our jobs are taken by robots, will we all just get some kind of benefits? I mean, robots don't consume, so people will still be needed to do that. How can we if we don't have a job anymore?

Recently, I read about a restaurant that only works with kitchen staff anymore, there are no waiters. You just enter your order in a computer and it will tell you when to pick up your meal from the kitchen. Maybe I'm just getting old, but that idea doesn't really appeal to me.

I didnt know it was an idea of yours, i thought it was some sort of actual proposal   Either way i dont think it's work.

Why not? Not saying it will be easy, but the situation that we are in now, doesn't have an easy solution either.

Doesn't it seem better to have refugees closer to their home (in humaner conditions!) than having them risk their lives traveling through Europe where there's a culture clash? I know I'd rather stay in, I don't know, France, until the war is over than having to cross the Mediterranean to end up in the Middle-East where I don't know anything, not the country, not the customs, not the language etc.

I mean, I know it's not a cut and dried solution, but to me, it seems much better in  the long run than what we're doing now, which is always short term vision. We are assuming most of those refugees are here not because they want to be here so badly, but because they feel it's safer here than, there, right? So why not try to give them that safety closer to home? Or have we given up on ever getting peace completely now, and are we thinking they'll never be able to go back again?

  11. 2 hours ago, Oldest Goat said:

They(the EU, the US, UN or whoever) should set up safety zones in the countries the refugees are coming from and protect and help them there.

Having no clue how to handle situations like the one in Sweden for example in the real world and simply shrugging saying "Fuck it. I want to feel like a nice person." and letting massive swathes of immigrants and refugees pour in isn't good enough. It's an awful idea.

Totally agree. It would be the best for everyone if that were possible. It's a pity not more is being done to make that possible. It would be so much more logical to investing the money there than spending it here.

Now we have a situation where vile criminals rob war victims of all their money to get them to Europe, refugees risking their lives, ending up in countries they have no connection with whatsoever. And once they're settled, and the war is over, they'll have to go back and there will be problems with that, after they've built up a life here, and especially so for families with young kids, who have no connection with their country of origin.

Id prefer to let people speak for themselves.

Just telling you why I think you're off with labeling poster dangerously nationalist by pointing out he or she was merely stating an objective fact. I hope that's alright with you. Jesus.

I apprettiate you taking time to respond and I read at is being a constructive response.  I think I understand you a bit better and that some of what you explain makes me more comfortable with your sentiments.  Not everything though.  I think we still have vastly different perspectives.  I don't believe you plotted to create a narrative out of thin air to bash refugees but I do believe the narrative you embrace is not accurate and that it does in fact bash migrants.

I think the type of Nationalism that needs to claim to be or have been the "best country in the world" is a dangerous one.  I prefer Italian meatballs, but the boxed furniture is fantastic.  You live in a very fine country.  No more.  No less.  One really cool feature of your country is the impressive social supports.  The financial toll of welcoming migrants is a real issue and Im sure it is happening so fast that it is competing with funding for your countries pre-existing social supports.  I do hope that is resolved and that the international community will share the financial responsibilities.  Because the supports are in place for those who live there.  And the migrants live there now.  Any two-tier outlook on social supports will fuel unrest.  As it should because its unjust and inhumane.

I appreciate you not reducing my statements to an accusation of generalized racism.  I do.  But I also think its worth pointing out that I've never felt a need to end a statement with 'don't call me racist for the things I've just said.'

If I could I'd invite you for a Fika (which I believe is a coffee break with a more intentional kinda tone?).

Sweden has been labeled the best country in the world based on social security, education, freedom and other things we value highly, by independent international studies. I don't think estranged_85 is being overly nationalist by saying that. I can say it, I'm not a Swede, no no nationalism here. It's an objective fact. Why do you think so disproportionately many refugees wanted to go to Sweden, even if it's high up north and they have a shitty climate? Because it is a good country to live in, because of the social security. That's why they chose Sweden and not Portugal, for instance.

I will tell you why Izzy and Steven aren't there. This was never supposed to be a AfD reunion. Slash and Duff rejoined GN'R and the line-up was complete with that step.

That's not true. Steven was in rehearsals and they negotiated with Izzy too, which means they had the intention of having them at least partly on board at some point.

Officially the September 8th show is listed as the last official show on their website. But it can also be that there's more dates after RIR, though I doubt it, but some people still think they will come back to Europe or the US once again after being there like a month ago already, to play arenas (yeah I'm not kidding). The Vegas and Coachella shows weren't part of the NITL tour either so it's probably a similar deal here, the current tour started on June 23rd and not in April. Have to wait and see!

They're not really touring Europe extensively. Lots of countries and cities where you'd expect them, aren't on there. I would guess it has something to do with the 30th anniversary of AFD and them wanting to do sth special in the US then, that's why they're cutting the European tour short. There is no reason for them not to do shows in countries where Axl's GNR and Slash have had shows in the past. I don't think it's so ridiculous to assume they may get back to Europe at least after that.

It's funny how that is overlooked and ignored. Now izzy has got "integrity". Axl and izzy skipped the hall of fame and they got called out for not attending, again, because people didn't get what they wanted, do it for the fans they said! While booing Axl for not showing. But no one really cared about izzy not going, it was all on axl. Now that's Axl's played with slash they want something else and will insult and slander anyone who they think is standing in the way. so they point fingers and insult the band they supposedly love. Same with Steven, if he got to play all of the appetite songs and share the stage with frank, do the whole tour or whatever, he wouldn't give a fuck about izzy not being there, but since that hasn't been offered to him, he's a "good solider" and a man of "integrity"  fucked over by the big bad 3. He just wants to play rock n roll, "do it right" and climb the "toppest mountain". It's bs, PR and damage control.

Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious Steven wouldn't be crying about Izzy if he'd had a bigger role in GNR himself.

It's too bad for Steven and I would've loved Izzy involved in one way or another (song writing, preferably), but it is what it is. None of us were there, we don't know how it went down and I'm just happy to get what we have now. Anything more would be just a bonus.
