That's the most entertaining thing about GnR these days - to see if Pele is right or not, oh boy! :D

After months of this (nonsense) I am going to comment for the first time. It doesn't matter if he's right or not. It's a fruitless dicussion. Even if his predictions come true, he is not proven right. His predictions aren't valid hypothesis to prove a theory (something like 'Rose is bancrupt concerning creativity', I guess).  Whatever.

In all seriousness Sean does a great job in this video and I agree with him 100%.

I'm kinda hijacking this to make a point. 😅

I don't agree with SC at all. But I'm against calling him the devil, singing kumbaya and boycotting everything he has ever done. I would prefer an honest, respectful discussion where people make points and explain them well.

  3. This is probably off topic, but I read it as being credited as the role the women played in the song. Like in a movie actors would be credited as thief if they play one.

That being said Gn'R obviously were at times misogyn and I personally don't agree with this few. I think it should be up for discussion, but I would never insist they must change past contrbutions.

  4. I love how passionate you are about this @RussTCB

My favorite song on the album has always been They Don't Care About Us. It's one of my all time favorite songs.

I don't even know why, but the line "I have a wife and two children who love me." makes me really sad. Maybe because it didn't work out and it would have been nice for him.

I really like Money and D.S., but I'm just warming up to Stranger In Moscow. I know it's a fan favorite, but I don't really feel it. Same with Childhood.

I love the covers Come Together and Smile.

My least liked song (I don't like it) has always been You Are Not Alone.

If your gonna use non_album, but period song, Blue Gangsta, did you forget to include xscape/shout/we've had enough/Chicago or APWno Name, or do you not like them?

    I didn't forget. That's the tracklist I wanted. 😊

The more music Slash puts out, the more I think GNR fans collectively backed the wrong horse in obsessing over Axl from the late 90s to present day. It is beyond obvious to me in 2021 that Axl was luckier to have Slash than the other way round.

You may not love everything Slash puts out, but his body of work combining the Snakepit albums, VR albums, SMKC and his 2010 offering really puts Axl to shame.

In the six years since the reunion Axl has released just two songs, both more than 20 years old - one of which we've known for two decades, meanwhile Slash is on his second album with his real band.

Axl really hasn't earnt his stripes to be taken seriously as an artist in his own right, unlike Slash.

Axl Rose appears not to have a creative bone in his body and is coasting on a legacy which he was given way too much credit for over the years. His lack of productivity speaks volumes about who the true driving force was in original Guns, and I really believe that Axl was incredibly fortunate to have been in a band with Slash and Izzy.

It really is time for the fanbase to stop looking at Axl through rose-tinted glasses. A great singer/frontman in his prime? Absolutely. But a serious artist/songwriter/musician he is not.

I've never looked at it like this. I guess I understand what you're saying, but these arguments don't hold much relevance to me.

I've never thought I have to back anyone or chose or judge. I remember I was excited for new Gn'R stuff and I was excited for Velvet Revolver etc. In the end Chinese Democracy was my favorite output. Maybe "By The Sword" comes close (somewhat).

I don't know (obviously) why Axl doesn't put out more or goes about things the way he does. I agree it doesn't seem ideal.

That doesn't take away from my relationship with the old material though and how good I think it is.

And it also doesn't have to do anything with what Slash does or doesn't.

  7. I'm trying to create a playlist to play for hours on grey, cold winter days. I have to admit I haven't gotten very far and could use some input.

    Any suggestions?

Edited to add: I'm looking for songs you associate with winter, snowfall, cold, mist etc. It doesn't have to be literal.

So many iconic riffs. Its hard to know what's under rated and what isn't.

I'll put "Always on the run" and "Give in to me" as my entries.

    Understated, but very smooth.

Afaik Slash only did the solos on Give In To Me, but they are GREAT and underrated as well. 2nd solo 🥰

Edited to add: Afaik. I'm pretty sure Slash doesn't play the riff on the recording (Bill Botrell?). But what I am certain of is that there are hardcore MJ fans on this board who will roast me for spreading half truths. 😃 Slash definitely didn't write the riff, though.

you're a serial skipper. What are your current favorites from Chinese? always thought the best way to listen to it is through headphones unless you own a very expensive boombox

My favorites are Street Of Dreams, Sorry, I.R.S, Madagascar and Prostitute.

I do own a really expensive boom box, but husband and kids have zero tolerance for "mommy's wild music". 😅

  10. The 'Slashing Chinese Democracy to 45 Minutes' thread on D&N reminded me that a while ago I (like a nerd) made my own Invincible cut. I have my own little running order. And I think it works well. What do you guys think?

    1. Unbreakable

    2. Heaven Can Wait

    3. Heartbreaker

    4. Invincible

    5. Break of Dawn

    6. Blue Gangsta

    7. Speechless

    8. You Rock My World

    9. The Lost Children

    10. Whatever Happens

    11. Threatened

I encourage you to try it out and mercilessly critizise me. 😉

I'll try to give both a listen tomorrow :)

I like the original version better. I'm no expert in different versions or remixes at all. I just like the feeling of the ov more. The melancholy.

  12. I realize most of you guys aren't familiar with the artists and won't understand the lyrics, but this song got to me like no other in a very long time. 😭

Eta: I met my husband at a Soap&Skin concert in 2009. Oh those sparks... 😄

I have long believed much of the overt hatred towards Myles is a secret grudging jealousy that he essentially is what we all hoped Axl would have aged into but didn't because he's lazy.

Most outside the GNR bubble think Myles sounded great on the GNR stuff (which he largely did) because he hits the high notes (without sounding like bad karaoke or an Axl wannbe) , doesn't ever sound gassed and never embarrasses himself or the band.

All things we wanted from Axl.

He records and releases music with Slash on a regular basis, and has been part of a remarkably stable band line-up.

Much of the over the top Myles sucks stuff from GNR fans is merely misplaced anger they feel towards Axl because it is maddening to them (particularly in the pre-reunion world) that Slash had found the guy who represented everything they wanted Axl to be. Watching Slash put on killer shows with Myles for years while GNR was embarrassing themselves with the goofey line-ups and refusal to release music just led to bitterness.

I honestly don't think there is any truth to your theory. People usually acknowledge Myles talent and professionalism. He too is regarded a nice guy by most people who critizise his artistry.

His expressions, even on his ambitious solo records or AB, just don't resonate with me, especially on a deeper level. It feels bland, tried and simple. I even believe MK is a genuine music fan and into what he does, but it's lacking the transcendence aspect that makes art great.

I'm even happy he has fans. And he has many. He obviously does not need me.

My opinion on Myles has nothing to do with Axl.

  14. I plan to take an extensive roadtrip in the summer of 2022. It will be mostly me and my 3 children, because husband doesn't get time off.

I first want to travel Italy (Venice, Bologna, Ravenna) then take a ferry to Korfu (Greece). Spend time there exploring. Afterwards I plan to take a ferry to Albania or northern Greece and travel the whole Balkan up north.  Albania, Montenegro, Croatia. I want to see Budva, Kotor and Dubrovnik. I  want to visit Lake Skadar, ancient cities where the muezzin calls and numerous Croatian Islands.

I'm excited, because it looks like it's going to be a real adventure.

It's one of my least favorite songs on that album and I'm not even sure why. Whenever I'm actually listening to it, I love it. I just never think to put it on.

Oh, it's one of my least favorite on that album too, but that album is insane! So many hits. One fabulous pop song after the other! It's my favorite MJ album for its consitency.

My Bad song ranking: 1. Dirty Diana 2. Smooth Criminal 3. Man In The Mirror 4. Liberian Girl  5. Another Part of Me 6. Speed Demon 7. Leave Me Alone 8. Bad 9. IJCSLY 10. The Way You Make Me Feel 11. Just Good Friends

MJ fans, please join in to the Bad discussion/ranking. I'd love to read your thoughts.
