  1. Has Axl ever explained his thought process behind the 3 guitar era? As far as I can tell, he's always wanted an Izzy (Tobias/Fortus), a Slash (Finck/Ashba), and then added the technical guitarist slot (Bucket/BF) for the NuGuns era. But I wasn't sure if his approach was as linear as it appears.
  2. Counting Monsters under the “Perhaps single” umbrella until proven otherwise, my gut says they only did 2 more songs. If I had to guess, Atlas & Oklahoma, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Oklahoma was the a-side if there’s vocals around.
  3. Axl saying "This is The General" under the intro is the coolest thing GNR has done on stage since 2016.
  4. I hope I’m not the only fool excited about a surprise release tomorrow.
  5. I'm wondering if Dave Grohl will show up. He was hanging out at boygenius there last night.
  6. SOYL is quantized Steven. Absurd and Perhaps is Brain (the Perhaps drum track was previously unheard, listen to the chorus cymbals versus Josh's toms in the demo). The HS drums have been said to Brain, Frank, and a drum machine by different people, but I'm on team drum machine sampled from Frank's kit. Melissa isn't credited on any song.
  7. It's very GNR to delay a single only to accidentally land their tour closer and last shot to release music around a show... right as The Beatles are dropping their only song of the century.
  8. That Monsters solo sounds more like Slash than Perhaps and Absurd. Not that those don't, but if you listen to Promise or Gotten from his solo album, the vocabulary he uses there is so similar to the parts he came up with on Monsters.
  9. When I was younger and learning what modern GNR was (2009 era), I couldn't even watch videos of them because I thought it was so corny. Fast forward to now, watching those same videos it was all Ashba and Pitman making me think that lol
  10. I'm not hearing any of these demo claims personally. To my ears, The General is very similar tonally to Perhaps, and Monsters is close to Hard Skool. The dullness of the recordings are a lossy conversion of a vinyl rip, and the vinyl in question was recalled for sound quality issues. Also, I'd bet $20 the outro of The General is Slash and the outro of Monsters of 4tus.
  11. I think the chorus is scratch vocals that eventually became real vocals when they started sounding better than what Axl could record.
  12. I'm trying to figure out the drum machine on Monsters and how it relates to Hard Skool. As far as I can tell, HS's intro and Monsters's chorus uses the same drum machine and samples. The hi-hat in both is weirdly panned hard right and the drums just all sound a little disconnected like you'd expect from a bunch of samples. But after HS's intro, the hi-hat panning does change to center for the rest of the song (only that first hit at 0:01 is panned like it's panned in Monsters). I'm still extremely doubtful HS has any real drumming, but Monsters sounds like Brain in the verses and the HS drum sample sound for the choruses and outro. I'd want to hear the final version to confirm this as well, but the guitars in The General sound similar to the Perhaps guitars, but Monsters guitars also sound similar to Hard Skool. Way more trebly than The General/Perhaps.
  13. This might be the most NuGNR fan service we ever get. Tbh it makes sense why they’re marketed as b-sides to the Slash-driven market, but I never expected to hear NITL songs that don’t excessively feature Slash’s playing.
  14. I’m not sure if anyone else has posted this yet, but I think I understand the ASCAP registration now. “The General and Monsters” was actually going to be vinyl exclusive, and was registered as it appeared on the vinyl (maybe?). Also, I listened to it so many times and it just sounds like a meh rip of a vinyl. I think this has to be the final mix, but there’s a lot of low end rumble and ripping that sounds like it could be the cause of the recall?
  15. Monsters sounds kind of like what an Axl song would’ve been like on Slash’s 2010 album to my ears. The solo is reminiscent to his playing from that era.
  16. A Slash/Duff OMG rework makes so much more sense with The General as some context.
  17. The fact that a song no one knew existed played for a party of people is good enough evidence for me that we have no clue the extent of stuff in the vault.
  18. Did Fernando ask someone to register The General and Monsters with ASCAP, and that person literally registered "The General and Monsters" with ASCAP?
  19. Monsters is 100% a drum machine the whole time. If this is a final version, that's a weird choice. The hi-hat is panned hard right in the chorus like an old school drum machine.
