Pretty sure I remember someone saying that about Quick Song, not Zodiac.

its really a great song, Axl with a piano always end up with something good
Yes! Axl, if you're taking requests, more piano songs please.
This one's really cool, the chorus feels perhaps not quite finished to me and not quite at the level of the rest of the song, but it's close. I wonder how much further tweaking was done. Really great demo, and I hope to hear a finished version someday.

This is what I have always maintained about Slash actually, every single solo of his fits that particular song perfectly and his talent for that is unsurpassed ! He just gets it...
I think that's fair. Probably why they're my 2 favourite guitarists (along with Jimmy Page).

It's remarkable that although it's so obviously Brian May playing, it fits the song perfectly.
This is the thing I've always said about Queen. You listen to pretty much any song, the guitar work and especially the solo is perfectly suited for the song, every time.

What if you created a brand of tasty lemonade that people love, with a lineup of buyers down the street, then you go and create a bunch of different and interesting flavours, refuse to let anybody taste them, and keep them in the back of the fridge for 20 years?

Apparently, these are unheard songs with Axl vocals on them:
PRL
Eye On You
Moustache
Quicksong
Quicksong w Buckethead
Zodiac 13
Tonto
Real Doll Dot Com
Atlas Shrugged
Silkworms (not the 2018 leak)
Billionaire
State of Grace
Devious Bastard
Hardschool
Dummy
Me & My Elvis
When the story about the locker first broke, somebody posted this list somewhere (can't remember which thread) and I copy and pasted it.

Was just working out a CD99 tracklist today (only based on what we've got). No Oh My God since I highly doubt it would have made the album, having just been released on a soundtrack, and didn't include Silkworms since we don't have a proper recording yet.
1. Chinese Democracy (Josh)
2. There Was a Time
3. The Blues
4. Hard School
5. Catcher in the Rye
6. Going Down
7. Atlas Shrugged
8. Riad and the Bedouins
9. IRS
10. Madagascar
11. Prostitute

Thank you man, added some corrections ; )
I think it's almost spot on now, might need another relecture.
There's a couple of words that are just so hard to make out. It sounds like he says,
"When it's as wrong and the road gets rough". I think "it's all wrong" makes more sense but it definitely sounds like the word "as" in there. Maybe it's actually "when it goes wrong" there.
For that last line, I don't think he says Jesus, there was some cut and pasting going on so it sounds a bit off but I do think the last line is:
"Even now I hope you understand."

Definitely about Slash.
Original Title: Slash-Less Shrug
Overall, I like it a bunch. Would definitely love to hear it properly edited, mixed and mastered. It's got a cool laid back vibe, and I'm digging Axl's vocals a lot.
It's not necessarily a great song but it is interesting, and as someone said earlier totally different vibe from the rest of Chinese Democracy.
Still amazed that we finally got to hear it after all these years.

Some words are hard to decipher but I think this is pretty close.
ATLAS SHRUGGED
Ohhhhh
Why should I try and judge the things they say
They just won't budge I'm letting go
Ohhhhhhh
And, shelter from the blind, storm
You managed to be kind
But still enough to show me how to keep it togetherWhen I'm crying out in vain
No matter who's to blame
There's still a ways to go
Ooohhh
So if you ask me to believe your heart will follow you
It's got a mind of its ownWhen it's as wrong and the road gets rough
And you're the one
Whose shoulders just ain't wide enough
Whose shoulders shrug when they've had enoughI'll be the last to say, don't follow your heart
There's more to what it takes to be a man
Than what you know
What you've shown
And that we know you understandOhhhh
Another thing, if I were you
I would say all that I do to be half as strong
Or still belong
Ohhhhh
You should take the time to look back at all your misadventuresWhen it's as wrong and the road gets rough
And you're the one
Whose shoulders just ain't wide enough
Whose shoulders shrug when they've had enoughI'd be the last to say, don't follow your heart
But there's more to what it takes to be a man
Than what you've known
What you've shown
That's what I hope you understandI never said, don't follow your heart
That's what it takes to be a man
From what you know
All that you've been shown
Even now I hope you understandGUITAR SOLO
I'd be the last to say, don't follow your heart
But there's more to what it takes to be a man
Than what you know
What you've shown
And what we know you understandI never said, don't follow your heart
That's what it takes to be a man
More than you know
All that you've been shown
Even now I hope you understand- 5

I seem to recall that someone unearthed a Richard Fortus instrumental demo called Tonto several years ago (after MSL listed it as a song title).

Bob Ezrin - Talking about a meeting with Axl in October 2000
"...when he sat down, he started saying to me that he has finished the record. And I said “Axl, we are not ready to mix this record. This record isn’t ready to be mixed”.
I said “there are two great songs on it and I know that you’re capable of more, that’s the reason why I’m here. You’re such a great talent and I would do you a disservice if I didn’t tell you the truth, which is that most of the songs aren’t great. But I‘m very happy to help you get there and I believe that it’s possible, if you would like to continue to work on the record, to make it better”.
He said “I don’t agree with that. We are ready to mix”. And I told him “you have my number, if you change your mind let me know..."- 1

This is pretty ho-hum, other than 15 seconds of studio Atlas, which sounds really good, and the clip of Catcher in the Rye, guitars sound fantastic and I would love to hear more of that one for sure.
-
Supposing this song is in fact about Slash ... I guess the idea would be that Slash thought there was no Guns n' Roses without him - I'm sure he would have also said the same about Axl, but still - and since he was "here to stay" he didn't need to change his behaviour or evolve musically.
And if GNR would be nothing without Slash, Axl expressing his concerns wouldn't matter anyway since Slash could just go on being "hard school" and refusing to change and allow the band to move forward. Meaning that either they would continue to spin their wheels and go nowhere, or that he (Axl) himself would have to leave.
-
From what I can tell, the only comment he made (in 2008) was:
"And Checkmate is a bogus title.
The working title is Jackie Chan."
-
And I am also one of those who hates the fact that people inevitably say that EVERY. SINGLE. NEW. SONG. is about Slash. Prostitute is about GNR, and maybe Sorry and The Blues referred to Slash. But I will agree that these lyrics for Hard School do seem to be about him.
-
The chorus is the best part of 'Hard School' and totally kicks ass, which is interesting because one of the bigger criticisms of ChiDem is that many of the songs have lots of cool parts but weak(ish) choruses. Which makes it even more confusing as to why it wasn't included on the album, being a rocker with a killer chorus.
Agree with most that it definitely has that "work-in-progress" feel to it. I'm not crazy about the intro but they were onto something with the outro, I think with some work it could be an awesome outro, and who knows what they've done with it in the DECADES since it was recorded
Overall, really dig it. And ALWAYS enjoy hearing new songs from Axl. If only GNR were a band that actually released new music, I'll bet there's lots of cool stuff still locked in the vault.

This video's definitely about GNR!

I always thought Bleedin' was about Axl & Stephanie Seymour.

Great song. I genuinely hope that the rumours of Axl apparently recording lead vocals for this song are true.
Also, this leaked 6 summers ago. Time flies.
It's been 6 years already?!?! And almost 11 since the release of Chinese Democracy. That's just crazy, and the band with the most wasted time in history just continues to waste more time releasing nothing.
There Was a Time when the Beatles basically had their entire career in 6 years - Ed Sullivan Show February 1964 - Officially broken up Spring 1970.
And on topic, still really dig this song and always did. It's got a great sing-a-long vibe and love Axl's backing vocals.

Why would anyone want to see Stradlin ''run around the stage'' like a nobhead? That isn't even his style.
Yeah, I guess "just look like you're into it" would be more accurate.

I feel like, if Izzy Stradlin had come in and said he wants to be an equal member again and play rhythm guitar at every show, run around the stage, work on writing songs, etc., and be a full member for a full tour, he would have been entitled to an equal share (this is assuming the shares are equal to begin with which is unlikely, Axl & Slash likely wanted and probably deserved more).
At the end of the day it's impossible to really speculate because we have no idea how much the guys in the band make, how much Izzy wanted, or even how much he wanted to participate in the tour. If he wanted to show up whenever it was convenient for him, no. Not worth an equal share. But I'm sure he would have made a lot of cash either way.
Duff intimates in this interview (despite trying not to answer the question) that they worked really hard to find a solution that worked for izzy and the band, but it just didn't work out because of Izzy. Both Slash and Duff (and hell, even Axl in his 1 interview) have said this a few times, while also saying that they don't want to slag him because they love the guy.
I don't think it's fair to say they chose money over Izzy, we just don't have enough info to go on.
