  1. It depends if it's an Axl track or from any other member. If it's a Slash track, for sure it would sound more like the Illusions tracks, IMO. It's not, I was just trying to understand Slash's mind a bit better by comparing those two. But yeah, you're right.
  2. That's for sure. But I've always felt that his Perhaps solo is a mix between the simplistic approach on So Fine and the structure of 14 Years solos.
  3. I think it's just a matter of not actually spilling out the details about The General on this while the song is not yet released online. Maybe they'll update the artwork and promote it as more of a double single thing. Chinese Democracy already started. But feel free to share the demo with us.
  4. Yes. And I don't think Slash sound anything like the Illusions tone (which is my favorite, btw). Even the drums are too different from the Illusions IMO, I don't see it as a fit to the Illusions era sonics-wise.
  5. For some reason, I'm trying to not set expectations too high on this. I do like what I can hear on that cell phone recording, and that seems to be at least 1/3 of the song (2 min). I really hope for this to be the case. The Perhaps' video helped a lot and really made a difference.
  6. Remember that leaked Linkedin post by the PR team The Syndicate? Despite Perhap's strong numbers, the actual post was less excited about it. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/the-syndicate_3_gunsnroses-digitalmarketing-creativedesign-activity-7100220110509883393-9EoQ?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
  7. That Slither clip is not doctored up. It even has a small fuck up on Slash's playing. Also I don't hear any evidence of them mixing and overdubbing soundboards in any of those Reels and promos.
  8. Ideally you hit the studio with at least basic song structures. But there's some bands that prefers to write on the fly in the studio environment, with more collaboration with other band members and engineers. Keep in mind that nowadays, you can just record whatever at home and it's almost ready to be used, if you want. So I think at least some ideas were bounced around between Slash, Duff and Axl in the last few years.
  9. Sure, but you implied that chord-based riffs would be Axl/CD signature, even though old GNR songs were already like that. There are some CD songs that are built on more traditional guitar riffs, even if they don't sound traditional, like Better, Shacklers, Scraped, Riad and maybe IRS (not sure if that intro counts as a small solo or a riff. it does repeat at some point). Thanks for that interview. Very cool insight about that period. I laughed at the story about Axl's guitar shenanigans. From what I heard in the demos, if those parts in TWAT and Madagascar are indeed Axl's as I think it is, it's a good thing he stayed out of it. And I dislike PRS guitars just because I find them ugly. Seems like Tobias wasn't the greatest person indeed. But I disagree about his chops, he seems competent enough to be a rhythm guitar player, as much as Izzy was technically. I mean, there's nothing wrong with his playing on Vegas and Rio 2001 shows. To me, sounds like his contributions were more on the arrangement (like TWAT's piano intro) and guitar ideas side, including riffs - Madagascar comes to my mind) and maybe some basic chord progressions. Yeah. It sounds a lot like those instrumental songs we had too. I think stuff like Oklahoma and Quicksong are fantastic and sounds more like GNR songs than some of the CD tracks.
  10. I know, I expressed myself wrongly. I meant that it was essentially the same song, but rereleased with a newer mix and arguably new overdubs/recordings. The reason why you think it sounds fresh IMO is because of the mix, which is fine by me, but it sticks out when played with the rest of AFD (and it's louder too, IIRC). Navarro plays from 2:23 to 2:53, but from 2:46 to 2:53 there's Paul Tobias playing lead along with him. IMO, Robin is credited because of the wah rhythm guitar in the chorus and maybe the intro (the acoustic guitar and the high notes on electric guitar). Tobias plays the rhythm guitar throughout the whole song, including the clean guitar arpeggio during the section C ("oh, if it opens your eyes..."). Not sure about Gary Sunshine, but maybe he's the main heavy guitar for the verses or just doubled Tobias parts. Robin's parts is what I play in the intro here. And I play only Navarro's solo, not the Tobias part:
  11. I see. So yeah, it's The Garden. But they sound like they were trying to learn how to play it. The vocal seems buried in the natural reverb from the arena, I wouldn't take much of it. My two cents: they were planning on having Alice singing this song on stage but it didn't quite worked out as it wasn't rehearsed to a good point. I'm not sure the vocals are Axl, but still, it could be just him figuring out how to sing it.
  12. Seems like ChatGPT doesn’t like Buckethead. Probably because of his dance moves.
  13. It wasn't ditched in 2006/07 and it wasn't the opening song back then.
  14. Isn't the first chord D major? I think Axl plays a tiny small lead during the "Yeah there was a time.. didn't wanna know it all..." part. Also some small tidbits just before Robin's main solo and the ending when the guitars stops and there is a sustained high note. I don't have evidence of it, just followed what I heard in the Village demo from what I assume is Axl's lead guitar idea after the 1st chorus that was later replaced by Buckethead's similar ideas.
  15. Why is arrogant? Besides being just my opinion (like many others here who said the same about the "hey hey" in Perhaps), CD's intro is ditched in the live performances and Riad's not only had legal problems attached, but was also ditched in the Rock Band version. Seems to me that even the artist considered both as disposable somewhat.
  16. I would say it's not too loud like the other ones. Which is a good thing for sure.
  17. Yeah, CD era songs like It’s so Easy, My Michelle, You’re Crazy, Reckless Life, 14 years, Perfect Crime, Shadow of your Love.. This is wrong. Robin got actual credits in a lot more than just Better.
  18. Would love to know. Maybe The Blues and CD or Madagascar? Back in 2000 the album was basically the Village demos.
  19. To me both are way too long. The Sean Beaven demo got the right intro to CD in my opinion. Riad never needed those stolen samples with added noise. And I love the song, always did. Yeah, it feels a lot like those post-grunge alt rock scene. And I do like that era, but I think Axl spent way too much time watching MTV in the late 90s.
