Rumored Album Release Dates

this guy is full of shit, he was on one of the boards a couple of weeks ago saying that he was a customer from meijers and talked with the guy who worked there, who said it was coming out on so and so date (i think it's changed since last time) and that he reserved one of the 13 copies they were getting. several people from the board tried to call this particular meijers and couldn't confirm the rumor

For the record, two people called the store while I was working (im the only who works there that is even remotly interested in this) I spoke with one in person and told him what I knew, the other left a message with my manager Bruce requesting information and when I tried to call him back I left a message on his answering machine but never received a call back.

It's really hard for me to beleive that you know about these old posts i'm referring to, yet you're new to the boards. I think you're the same guy.

unfortunately, there are none in my area. it's a small chain in the middle of nowhere, which makes this story even more difficult to beleive. nationwide big boxes have waaaay more employees and thus a much greater chance of having one of them come onto the boards.

It's not really that hard to believe, if CDs aren't their main market then they're obviously not going to buy in more than a few copies. I was in a store devoted to music today, MusicZone and they only had about 5 copies of AFD..... it's really not that difficult.

actually, i used to live in ohio and must say your description of meijer as a "small chain" is inaccurate. regional chain: yes, small chain: no. meijer is a super-retail store similar to target or wal-mart and is extremely successful in the midwest.

that being said, i see no reason to argue about the validity of what meijeremployee said. there's really no way to prove it either way. i for one will just continue hoping that CD is out by the end of the month...any news that makes this seem like a better possibility is good news in my book. if the 28th comes and still no CD, then we can criticize meijeremployee all we want, but until then....i fail to see the point

Just keep in mind, info about CD seems to change pretty often, so even if the thing doesn't get dropped on the 28th, the information this guy supposedly has could have been absolutely true at the time he got it.

And yes, Meijer is a big store, and, like Wal-Mart or Target, CDs aren't exactly their focus...it doesn't surprise me that they might only get 8-12 copies.

You guys keep shitting on people who come here to give us what they know, and at some point one of them is going to turn out to be absolutely correct.

Exactly. It's really quite something that people come here to give us what they hear in hopes that it may interest us and all people do is shit on them and/or call them a noob. I'm sure 16 threads about negativity are just much more pleasing to this forum these days.

There is as much chance of this being true as anything else that we have heard. I think that they are making a HUGE mistake if the CD is not in stores on Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving for the non-americans) but oh well. You guys think that everyone who comes on here is coming on to fuck with us, maybe the dude is just a big fan. Either way, we will know soon, because there is no way that the CDs would not arrive the Friday before. Gn'R do not set the rules for that kind of stuff. Trust me if the realese date is the 21st the album will be LEAKED on the Friday before. If it is the 28th, it will be leaked the Friday before that. There is not a damn thing Merck can do about that. If you think a small town record store employee is worried about the big Merck/Gn'R machine,think again. They will put that shit online with the quickness.

I'm skeptical of all of these November release rumors simply because we've all been set up and disappointed so many times. However, I just called the Virgin Records MegaStore in Denver, CO just to see what type of response I'd get. Let me also say Denver does not support new Guns at all (which sucks). All stations are Clear Channel-owned and barely recognize that Guns exist. So I asked the gal if she had a release date for Guns N Roses new album. You could tell by her reaction that she knew nothing about GNR. She put me on hold and came back with I quote "probably Nov 21".

I was suprised to get this from them. There's no buzz around here at all on GNR, so I don't think you have record store workers repeating rumors like we've seen over the past month. I think there is a legitimate possibility that Virgin Records knows the release date and is ear-marking this date for its employees but not outright confirming it.

I'm still not completely sold that there is any kind of plan, but Nov 21 is looking more and more realistic. One point though, remember Jarmo saying "wrong Tuesday" about Rollingstone's Nov 21 report?

Haha, I'm hyped out so much over this, my bandmates and friends are killing me. I think I've even talked it to death about this album and it's not even out yet.

And can anyone point me in the right direction to hear even the leak of Better, besides YouTube. I swear if I have to fast forward over the radio intro again, I'll go nuts.

I really can't believe they don't release ATLEAST the single on iTunes. God, I would eat that up...it's such a good song.

Same with TWAT...I've listened to the leak of that since June maybe 100 to 200 times.

Hi there! Im new here so probably dont have any credibility, but I work at a meijers store in Ohio and was surprised to see the other day that Chinese Democracy was on our list of new release cds for the month of November. I was skeptical, but got in contact with the vendor that distributes and orders for our store and she confirmed that the album would be released by the end of the month probably the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 28). She also mentioned that there is no promotions going on with the album, which means the record company is not sending promotional posters or displays to help sell the album, which is strange for an artist of GNR's caliber. So there you go, take it or leave it but this is confirmed information from an employee who deals with New Release records every week and from the vendor to our store. I can also add that our particular store will only be receiving 12 copies of the album at release.

I am a fan of GNR and have been pumped up for this album since I heard the leak of 'Catcher in the Rye' which is just a brilliant song. Ive always been very passionate about music and rock and roll so this release is a long awaited one. I really wish I could provide you with some sort of concrete evidence but sadly I really cant. I told you what I know, and I promise you that if I find out anything more I will present it to you promptly.

Something to ponder is this, big record stores such as virgin and such are going to have a lot more security steps in place to ensure that release dates and such dont get leaked to the general public before the record companies give the go-ahead. On the other hand, the majority of people working at a store like meijers or wal-mart dont know enough or care enough about something like this to even know if information was right in front of them. So whoever mentioned calling their local meijers store earlier and they 'didnt have a way to look it up' is a complete fabrication and someone deciding to be lazy. All media departments for meijer get a monthly newsletter on their employee websites at the beginning of each month outlining the months new releases which is where I got my information which I then backed up by talking with the store cd vendor.

Once again, the day I see this album come in or if i find anything else at all out, I will present it to you. Thank you again to those who decided to think for themselves what they wanted to about this info and not try and belittle me or call me a liar for simply trying to do a favor.

I've been asking in local record shops too but no one seems to know anything which is a bit suss as it's supposed to be with them in the next few weeks! The young girl in woolies was very helpful but only just knew who Guns n Roses were, when she asked how long I'd been waiting for a release of this album she chuckled at my respnse of "oh years actually!" Anyway most places took my phone number and said they'd call if there was any news.

I spoke with a friend who does ordering for a major music retailer. Below is the transcript of our phone call conducted today (11/15/06) at 2:20pm Central Time.

ME: Hi, hear anything on Chinese Democracy?

RET: Nothing. It's not even in the system.

ME: So is it at all possible that CD would be in your store next Tuesday (21st)?

RET: No. It's impossible since I need to have info in the computer to actually order it and there is nothing.

ME: What about the rest of this year?

RET: The last reasonable date would be November 28th...after that, it kind of dries up.

ME: Are you suggesting that it won't be out this year?

RET: Anything's possible, but at this point, with nothing in the system showing any release date, the window is closing fast.

He also indicated that he orders new releases the Friday before the Tuesday release. So, for example, in order to have CD in stores by next Tuesday (21st) he would have to have something in his computer by tomorrow morning at the very latest.

I believe that if CD were coming out this year, the PR machine would have been ramped up a few weeks ago. The most telling thing is that AXL has made no reference to it's release at any of the concerts this fall.

We may be waiting a bit longer than we thought...
