Serenity, because it was the next logical step after Firefly.

Nathan Fillion is such an underrated actor. Aside from Serenity and Waitress, has he ever gotten another lead part in a feature?

has was in that horror comedy,Slither, good gory fun :)

 Doesn't exactly sound like a character role, but I suppose I should give it a chance. Thanks.

Anyone else seen the trailer for "Teeth" and thought "What!?" . Pretty unique idea for a horror film I guess, the current tagline i saw was "It's what's inside that counts" although I personally think "You don't eat the pussy, the pussy eats you," Is a better one :P.

I heard about this movie quite by accident. It certainly is an interesting concept! I certainly will NOT be watching it though!

And your tagline is better!

I decided to watch that with my boyfriend without realising what it was about, because, you know, horror films usually make for good date nights. Not exactly the best choice there.

But it's actually quite scary/hilarious, although it sort of fizzles out by the end.

Saw Boogie Nights today, here's a short review:

With an all-star cast consisting of names like Marky-Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Heather Graham (), Don Cheadle, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and William H. Macey, it kinda went without saying that this film would better than the average film. It was my first time seeing it, and my expectations were really high.

First things first, the subject is awesome - the 70s and 80s porno-scene, what's more entertaining than that? It's really well made, and it depicts the time and culture of the plot very well, with help from a really strong soundtrack with disco classics like Hot Chocolates - Sexy Thing (fits the plot perfectly), KC & the Sunshine Band - Boogie Shoes and McFadden & Whitehead's "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now".

The acting performances are excellent (not really a shocker). Burt Reynolds is probably the best one, as the porno-director Jack Horner. He fits it so damn perfectly with that fucking Reynolds-mustache and shit. Mark-Mark is good as usual, but he seems like... kinda insecure or out of place or whatever, but that's undoubtedly due to his role being one of his first lead actor role. Heather Graham is as hot as always, and I was sort of surprised when the nude scene appeared, but it's all good. Oh, and, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was really cool too, as the creepy assistant, or whatever he played, that was in love with Dirk.

I do believe that William H. Macy's role should have been bigger, though. Like the length of Don Cheadle's role, perhaps. But I liked the way it influenced the plot without being particularly lengthy.

Overall a great film, it was just as good as I expected, Paul Thomas Anderson showed us what was yet to come: Magnolia.

7/10

Sounds cool, Lithium. I will try to find the movie somewhere and check it out.

I saw Transformers last night and Ghost Ship last night. Transformers was entertaining, but nothing extraordinary.

Ghost Ship was surprisingly good, I really jumped from the couch a couple of times :D

Yeah, you should. :)

Ghost Ship, is that the one with some guy named Murphy walking around on a ship haunted by a little girl who died there or some shit? I saw that whilst being drunk, and even then I realized it was crap. Made me jump a few times, though. :D

Yeah, it's that one :D The story and acting was absolute crap, you are right about that, but hey, horror-movies are all about the creeps and couch-jumping  And that little girl sure gave me the creeps ;)

There is a Crack in Everything

Natural Born Killers and The Big Boredom

"In a dark time, the eye begins to see." – Theodore Roethke

Largely regarded as Oliver Stone's worst movie, Natural Born Killers is his most misunderstood work. After the long time coming, instant glory of the autobiographical Platoon, Stone's next project, Wall Street, kept up the jingoistic media interest, before Born on the Fourth of July consolidated Stone's fame. During the making of The Doors, Stone lived out his Morrison obsession and played up to his own excessive image. When you thought he couldn't take any more flack, he made JFK about the conspiracy to kill Kennedy. The right wing press went for him in a big way. He went on to complete his Trilogy, with maybe his best, and most over looked, film about Vietnam, Heaven and Earth.

Natural Born Killers caused real controversy in a desensitized media age in which it seemed almost impossible to shock often blasé and complacent movie audiences. Was Stone purposefully courting controversy? Or, on the other hand, was his thesis passé? In many ways, Stones politically based movies are wasted on audiences who don't really want to think and conservative critics and historians who see no place for Stone's radical messages. He is accused of not being a real historian by establishment institutions. He has never been accepted, and has often been belittled, by real historians who criticize the accuracy of his movies and the motives of his presentations. The possibility that he may be a new type of historian for a post-literate and increasingly visual generation is never given much thought. What is history anyway? What can really be proved? Stone can seem ambiguous when his quotes are isolated and taken out of context, but the final statement about what his films are is plausible. He claims that the facts and characters may sometimes have been compressed to suit a narrative drive, but the essence of the films are always true. There is a lot of doubt about who killed JFK. This is the truth. Stone suggests we look for answers, not sweep it under the carpet. This is important. This is American's future at stake. The future of a country. Oliver Stone has often taken criticism for the misinterpretations of the media. He didn't say The Doors were the most important band from the '60s era. He didn't say the stock exchange was corrupted into redundancy. He didn't say murder was right!

Natural Born Killers strikes right to the heart of the issue of censorship. Many believed that Stone's movie encouraged copycat killings. It is true that people did watch his movie and then go out on similar misguided criminal activities. But after all the accusations and condemnations, one simple question finishes this idiotic argument: Does any depiction of violence advocate murder? Where do you draw the line? You can't, that's the reality. Is a particularly violent piece of classical music responsible for the person who becomes violent? Does that new Britney Spears video make you want to go out rape and kill teens? Yes, but that is categorically not her fault. What is surprising is how the actual serious subject matter of the movie was overlooked and misunderstood. Was the media giving the public a smokescreen to protect itself? How far up does this conspiracy go? You know Bush was laughing in his local brothel. Oh, the humanity. Don't open your eyes America, you won't like what you see.

The film is not about the killing spree two young crazy kids go on after a lifetime of abuse. It's about the media's hypocritical part in the creation of, and even need for, a culture of violence. In short, Violence Sells. Stone believes he was a victim of this culture of violence when he was taken in by it, and subsequently joined the army to fight for America. He found out much too late that America didn't care about his efforts and what was worse the America he had been sold was a lie. The sucker!

Digging deeper into Natural Born Killers, it turns out that it is a very sophisticated satire, which is almost impossible to digest on first viewing. Especially by a bus load of nice bigoted college librarians high on meth-amphetamine just bustin' for a riot of irresponsible violence. The movie in all seriousness should have a warning: Not For Stupid People. Stone has said that Natural Born Killers, on a deeper level, is about the systems we all adhere to. We all declare our independence in various ways; we fight the system with our own ideas and fantasies. We, however, can't destroy the system. In NBK, the two killers take on the system by killing 50 people. They use the media to escape from prison. But they don't take the media with them when they disappear. In the underground the anti-media virus offers hope for the 21st century. The hope is to be free from the conformity of the past. Use new technologies to create your own worlds beyond the television networks, outside the constraints of record companies and mainstream media. The world is so fucked because the viewers can't remember anything. Desensitized, they lack regret or guilt. The viewers forget the death and destruction of the Iraq war on CNN or the crimes of Michael Jackson on Fox. We wallow in the "The Big Boredom" alone and omniscient. This is the final implosion and testament of the world of media. There are People who are on the screen and those that watch.

Is there an escape from this Neo Hell?

This is the real subject matter of Natural Born Killers.
